I think there's a lot to be said for having a couple of months' worth of supplies in though, for any reason.
In my case, because despite my best efforts, I'm finding it hard to keep up with the politics at the moment.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/09/2019 18:43

No deal can still happen. Don't get optimistic yet!

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/09/2019 18:45

Depends. @SingingBabooshkaBadly

I definitely have enough to stock a small corner shop. Like you I wonder if I have gone over the top. I am not going without coffee if I can help it.

I have got lots of coffee and as it turns out loo cleaner. I bought tuna just before DD went veggie.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/09/2019 18:50

I feel like I've got another branch of Tesco in my bedroom, admittedly! GrinBlush

I still need a few more boxes of tea bags, plus cheese and I'll get more butter too. I got 5L of sunflower oil from Tesco for £3.50 which is a good price. We have a shit ton of tuna, but both kids eat it, so it'll keep us going if necessary.

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/09/2019 18:56

I have changed the focus of the stockpile a bit to include more open a tin or two, microwave and put in front of the children just in case my boob has gone tits up (90% chance of being ok just will they hurry up with the appointment already, fed up of the Schrödinger's serious or benign)

Ps thread is a good distraction. Thanks.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/09/2019 18:58

I hope it all works out, Blackeyed. When were you referred? I'd chase as it's the two week pathway. Flowers

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/09/2019 19:07

I can no longer say I don't have a stash of baked beans under the stairs. We have used a few recently for emergency dinners. And they were on offer. I buy loads when they are reduced as it is not a frequent offer. Hence enough to stock a small shop.

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/09/2019 19:08

We chased yesterday. Going to chase again tomorrow.

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/09/2019 19:09

And thanks

NoWordForFluffy · 10/09/2019 19:12

Most 2 week wait appointments end up being something other than their intended discovery aim. My MiL was referred for stomach issues the other year, and it's scary, but at least it's a quick process.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 10/09/2019 20:07

BlackeyedGruesome Hope it's nothing, but understand your worry. I have Benenden Healthcare. Not much use to you now as you have to wait several months to qualify, but worth looking into for future ref.
However, definitely worth chasing up as the 2 week thing is still stated in NICE guidelines.
Hugs.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 10/09/2019 20:11

Paracetamol shortages are definitely a thing now and not just regional or imagined. My cheapest, most reliable place (Herons 29p) has had none for 2 weeks..
Previous cheapo place was Aldi @ 25p have been out of stock totally for 6 weeks now. Sainsbury's had none and had put price up from 45p to 75p on their empty shelves. Something is definitely going on.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/09/2019 00:22

Going through my lists. I have increased the proportion of tinned veg. (Carrots, peas, sweetcorn)

Chopped tomatoes are the largest proportionally. This is because they are used normally, with fresh/frozen veg as well as with tinned veg once those have run out.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/09/2019 06:53

I didn't look yesterday. Forgot loads of things. Too distracted.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/09/2019 07:17

I hope it's ok blackeyed. I had a similar scare this summer and I know it's horrible. Mine turned out to be fine, I hope yours is too.

MINItrawler · 11/09/2019 08:27

After an "incident" involving young children and the toilet roll stash we had to buy drain unblocker yesterday. We grabbed one extra to go in the back of the cleaning cupboard.

5 people. Only 1 toilet.

Why I didn't have some in anyway is beyond me.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/09/2019 08:40

Hope everything is OK Blackeyed Flowers

Sainsburys didn't have any of the bread or toilet paper I ordered this week so we've had to go into our stash of the latter (so thankful we had it!). I can bake bread and I think I'll start doing an extra loaf a week to put into the freezer, just to be on the safe side. We've got a chest freezer in the garage.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 11/09/2019 09:27

@BlackeyedGruesome Thanks

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 11/09/2019 09:55

I've bought knock-off baileys for the Christmas box, chocolate oranges and toblerones for stockings. Fluconazole and sanpro are on my list for Tesco today. I need to learn new veggie rice dishes.

NoWordForFluffy · 11/09/2019 10:43

Aldi's knock off Baileys is lovely!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/09/2019 10:46

Paracetamol and Ibuprofen are back in stock locally. I did a little circuit of pharmacies for dd to take back to university. She will use them this term so it's not very advance purchasing.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 11/09/2019 10:57

Asda's is the one I get as I don't have an aldi near me. It's £3.85 and I prefer it to the aldi one.

Socksontheradiator · 11/09/2019 10:57

Blackeyedgruesome Flowers I have been there too, and understand your fear totally. I was ok too, but that doesn't help your 'what ifs'. I hope you get an appt asap.
Liking the sound of Aldi knock off Baileys. Thanks for the tip.
We have plenty of otc painkillers in supermarkets again, but they seem to have gone up in price. Quick shout out for voltarol gel too. That is very useful stuff when paracetamol doesn't quite cut it.
Also shout out for Jack Monroe's recipes (Bootstrap Cook-you can find her online) Her recipes mean you can really vary your meals, they are cheap and use a lot of store cupboard ingredients. Apparently her young son test drives the recipes so a lot of them are very child friendly. Personally I enjoy her writing style too.

Socksontheradiator · 11/09/2019 11:07

@MINI I feel your pain with the toilet blocking. Had similar here once, when my children were small. Likewise also one toilet between us.

I discovered the use of 'family cloth' in my attempt to reduce waste. Basically using washable wipes (cut up and hemmed old towels in my case) Only for weeing in my house, but it makes a big difference to bog roll usage. Probably only appealing to people who are content with reusable sanpro. But if stash space or cash is limited it's worth people seeing if their families would give it a go (DH won't, no kids at home now) But I use loads more than dh does, what with being a girl and all.

MarshmallowManiac · 11/09/2019 14:55

Hope you are ok Blackeyed Flowers and hope they pull their finger out and send you an appointment.
