It is actually happening.

By 5pm tomorrow Johnson should be Prime Minister, if nothing major goes wrong for him.

Phillip Hammond is expected to resign early in the morning. And there maybe others.

Parliament goes into recess on Thursday. Giving Johnson only enough time to announce a Cabinet and maybe give a brief statement in Parliament.

As it stands Johnson will have an effective majority of 1 if the Brecon by-election goes the way expected next week.

Unless someone else defects. Which isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

We also have Charlie Elphicke now suspended and facing a court appearance on 6th September, just 3 days after Parliament returns after the summer recess.

Remember when parliament returns Johnson must get a Queen's Speech vote to pass to start the new session.

The return of Parliament is 8 weeks before 31st October.

If Johnson can't pass a Queen's Speech... Is there time for a GE before 31st October? By the skin of our teeth? Or a crucial recall petition?

So for all the talk that parliament can we prevented from being prorogued or that we can get a deal by the 31st October, there is a GE shaped problem.

As for Johnson's plan for Brexit. Don't expect to see him say anything but waffly bollocks before that key Queens Speech vote. He can't. Instead expect lots of domestic promises - in part to distract, in part in prep for a possible snap election.

Of course to have an extension the Prime Minister needs to ask for it. Would a GE be enough to get one? And would we be granted one?

On the flip to that is the prospect of May's Deal. Much has been made of its death. But some have said its premature to say that. At the eleventh hour should the situation arise would parliament vote for it, backstop and all, to prevent no deal? Its not beyond the realms of possibility.

All the talk of Johnson driving a change of direction by the force of personality is nonsense. Johnson can use his personality domestically for support, but he his personality offers nothing to the EU.

On top of this all we have the Iran Oil Tanker Crisis. The US were alleged to have set us up, and now told us to look after our own tankers. Leaving us to look to Europe for international security cooperation in the area... Irony isn't lost.

Let us see what tomorrow might bring though...

Our local hospital is now actively recruiting nurses in the Middle East (hiring the Indian and Filipino nurses who work there).

For those Leavers who did vote on anti-immigration grounds, I am pleased to see this. Seeing Middle Eastern and more black and brown faces will annoy them even more.

Icantreachthepretzels · 25/07/2019 14:13

Lots of shiny new pro Brexit posters on here - interesting.

But they're not rattled - they told us so themselves so we know it's true. They're optimistic. They are just here to share their love and optimism for our wonderful new leader and his brave new world. Nothing to see here.

Probs

I agree that the British education system is doomed because of the lack of funding. Parents are being encouraged to voluntarily contribute. My concern goes to schools in deprived areas where parents don't have enough money and most probably trapped in low income work.

DC2 has A levels next summer then after that I don't need to stay in England.
In the event of no deal, ROI or Scotland, if Indyref2, look attractive-I can get an Irish passport, although my DD can't -so that might be an issue.

Somebody obviously hasn't really read all LeClerc's posts if they think that he's a she Wink

While we never really know who is behind the pseudonyms (although I've met many MNers in RL and befriended others on FB), he has never made any secret of the fact that he is a bloke Wink

The JRMs of this world will just think "Good. Lower wages."

Yes, very, erm, interesting all the new names that have popped up in the last 2 days. All pro brexit too 🤔

PostNotInHaste · 25/07/2019 14:22

I haven’t had time to listen to any of BJ’s speeches. Are Remainers to blame for being negative again then ?

nuttynutjob · 25/07/2019 14:23

Peregrina

We had several incidents where a relative or patient would request for a British nurse or doctor. However, they always get a dose of reality that the people in the NHS are very diverse.

I am sipping something cold and sparkling, a toast to you our new Prime Minister, and a new beginning.
The beauty of independence means you can always campaign to rejoin. I don’t know why you are so animated, if you are so sure it is a terrible mistake, in a few years you can look forward to the UK rejoining fully signed up to the Euro and the EU army et al. No worries. The next ref ( is anyone wants to rejoin that is) can be safely carried out, knowing the vote will be respected.

tobee · 25/07/2019 14:30

Are we supposed to be jealous of urbanlife do you think? Grin

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 14:34

Please do join me toobee all welcome 🥂

Justaboutdone · 25/07/2019 14:36

Hopefully made in UK urbanlife?

Justaboutdone · 25/07/2019 14:39

And is Bojo really pulling the strings here?

I can’t help but think he’s a front man and the decisions are being made by Cummings behind the scene

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 14:40

Well I am easy, being a globalist. It can come from anywhere as long as it was humanely and fairly produced.

jasjas1973 · 25/07/2019 14:41

imho urban is just another reiteration of previous wind up posters...
Whollyfather springs to mind.

Posting stuff that is just the safe side of trolling, enjoys the reactions, never answers any questions raised etc.

cherin · 25/07/2019 14:42

Except that the conditions to join the EU are pretty well defined and they don’t allow in a country in tatters with an unstable government, a significant debt and a past like the one that BJ wants to create (hard brexit=no payment of 39m=U.K. pariah in international scene).
Of course there’s plenty of countries already in being in similar situation (but the pariah bit) but they’re not talking to leave...

DGRossetti · 25/07/2019 14:46

And ? They can be changed.

Bugger - my long post didn't post Sad

Anyway, the short version is that ds' old secondary asked for a maximum contributions of £20 (£10 per term for 2 terms of Home Ec) but technically it was voluntary and you got to take the food made home and a contribution towards DoE if you chose to do it (but the Parent Council's Achievement Fund would subsidise that if required).

This is a school with a very mixed demographic: a very high proportion of multipally deprived areas and a 10% intake of the S1 intake is Roma.

bellinisurge · 25/07/2019 14:52

"I haven’t had time to listen to any of BJ’s speeches. Are Remainers to blame for being negative again then ?"

Pretty much. Can't wait to watch as he shafts all these arselickers who think he is their man.

Hazardtired · 25/07/2019 14:52

I don't know what mistress website Johnson might use but that seductive laid back attitude and ego stroking positivity could pull you the PM urban.

TheElementsSong · 25/07/2019 14:57

I welcome new visitors to these threads. It’s that lovely warm cotton-wool feeling of being smothered in empty platitudes and hollow slogans.

Hester54 · 25/07/2019 14:57

If Boris does half the things he says his going to do, he could be the best PM for decades

LouiseCollins28 · 25/07/2019 14:59

Big "IF" though!
