It is actually happening.

By 5pm tomorrow Johnson should be Prime Minister, if nothing major goes wrong for him.

Phillip Hammond is expected to resign early in the morning. And there maybe others.

Parliament goes into recess on Thursday. Giving Johnson only enough time to announce a Cabinet and maybe give a brief statement in Parliament.

As it stands Johnson will have an effective majority of 1 if the Brecon by-election goes the way expected next week.

Unless someone else defects. Which isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

We also have Charlie Elphicke now suspended and facing a court appearance on 6th September, just 3 days after Parliament returns after the summer recess.

Remember when parliament returns Johnson must get a Queen's Speech vote to pass to start the new session.

The return of Parliament is 8 weeks before 31st October.

If Johnson can't pass a Queen's Speech... Is there time for a GE before 31st October? By the skin of our teeth? Or a crucial recall petition?

So for all the talk that parliament can we prevented from being prorogued or that we can get a deal by the 31st October, there is a GE shaped problem.

As for Johnson's plan for Brexit. Don't expect to see him say anything but waffly bollocks before that key Queens Speech vote. He can't. Instead expect lots of domestic promises - in part to distract, in part in prep for a possible snap election.

Of course to have an extension the Prime Minister needs to ask for it. Would a GE be enough to get one? And would we be granted one?

On the flip to that is the prospect of May's Deal. Much has been made of its death. But some have said its premature to say that. At the eleventh hour should the situation arise would parliament vote for it, backstop and all, to prevent no deal? Its not beyond the realms of possibility.

All the talk of Johnson driving a change of direction by the force of personality is nonsense. Johnson can use his personality domestically for support, but he his personality offers nothing to the EU.

On top of this all we have the Iran Oil Tanker Crisis. The US were alleged to have set us up, and now told us to look after our own tankers. Leaving us to look to Europe for international security cooperation in the area... Irony isn't lost.

Let us see what tomorrow might bring though...

bishop This has been covered over and over again, but for the last time:

Brexiteers voted to leave:

  1. To stop mass immigration of millions and millions in an uncontrolled fashion to protect jobs, hospital services and schools. We are a small island we can not continue to absorb millions.
Migration is welcome in an orderly way and measured by much needed skills from all over the world.

  2. The barrage of laws and controls coming from Brussels is completely out of control, and not in keeping with an independent state and judiciary.

  3. The shockingly high contribution of tens of hundreds of billions we make to the EU every single year for very little in return

  4. The broadening of the integration now to include an army and fiscal union. The UK will never sign up for a superstate which is what the EU commission headed by Germany is becoming quite openly now, and may I add brazenly.

  5. Berlin now imposing austerity and budgets on supposedly independent nations such as Greece.

  6. A future that we choose by accountable, democratic leaders running our country and not the leaders appointed in dark rooms of the EU commission that are anything but accountable.

I support Europe and love the Europeans but we can never agree to the EU Commission’s federalist super state, not now, not ever.

bellinisurge You are all being very negative. The proof of the pudding is in the eating

LonelyTiredandLow · 25/07/2019 15:04

People forget TM was apparently all about Social Justice in her maiden speeches...Windrush and Grenfell showed her up on that front.

bellinisurge · 25/07/2019 15:05

I am being negative because, like some shitty boyfriend who always lets you down saying "this time it'll be different ", that is what Johnson will do.
I will accept any Brexit that doesn't fuck with GFA. If that can't be done, I will never support No Deal.
Forgive me for not signing up to the wankfest that is every speech he gives.

tobee · 25/07/2019 15:07

Been told several times recently that we are not thinking correctly on this thread, I notice. Not sure why Johnson/leavers are bothered. Smile

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 15:07

I am horrified at the racist comments on here, and to think you often hear that Brexiteers are ‘racist’ but no one truly buys that anymore thank goodness.
I for one would love to see more people living here from the commonwealth. Respectable individuals from nations that have been incredibly loyal to the UK and allies for centuries.

Sostenueto · 25/07/2019 15:08

If Boris the animal succeeds in a no deal brexit i hope all those who will be elated even though some may not be able to afford the food in shops or get their meds will be patient and understanding. But don't worry by 2050 according to Boris the animal things will be looking up so only 30 years of hardship to endure.Grin

jasjas1973 · 25/07/2019 15:08

The shockingly high contribution of tens of hundreds of billions we make to the EU every single year for very little in return

So our yearly EU contributions are in the trillions?

LonelyTiredandLow · 25/07/2019 15:09

Obviously not to mention the highest rates of homelessness for decades, male suicides spiralling, benefit related deaths hitting headlines, dehumanisation of of the disabled, vilification of those on welfare, crumbling school buildings, lack of climate change preparedness which gets highlighted every year and the new term of "the working poor" which can be solely attributed to the Tory party.

Forgive me if I don't clap with joy at where they might take us when we have no trading partners and a falling sterling in 99 days.

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 15:09

Yes in totality I think you will find it is jas do the maths.

Alsohuman · 25/07/2019 15:09

@urbanlife, where are those racist comments? I haven’t seen any.

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 15:12

DGRossetti 14.21 reposting a clear racist comment. Reported.

Hester54 · 25/07/2019 15:12

bellinisurge I’m sorry for your bad choice in boyfriends,
I’m sure he doesn’t want a no deal, but if they can’t get a satisfactory deal, do just expect them to say we tried but they said no, so we are not going to leave ?

ContinuityError · 25/07/2019 15:13

The broadening of the integration now to include an army

You haven’t read the Lisbon Treaty, have you?

LonelyTiredandLow · 25/07/2019 15:13

@urbanlife unfortunately many leave voters don't share your 'love' of the commonwealth population - see Windrush and the regular hate people who don't have white skin or speak English encounter on our streets from frothing little Englanders. The usual shouted trope appears to be "fuck off to where you come from", even if they were born here.

You can see the same in USA as both campaigns are built on fear and hate of the different.

bellinisurge · 25/07/2019 15:13

"Respectable individuals from nations that have been incredibly loyal to the UK"
My Polish pal and her engineer hubby (also Polish) are the most respectable people you could ever might.
So respectable that they saved up and applied for British citizenship because they could see which way the wind was blowing. And they wanted security for their two children- who are well behaved, English speaking, high achieving, sporty, fun to be with kids.
Unlike some of the Tommy Robinson loving shit for brains idiots that also live around here.

DGRossetti · 25/07/2019 15:13

DGRossetti 14.21 reposting a clear racist comment. Reported.

If you want.

mrslaughan · 25/07/2019 15:13

@urbanlife - it's been done to death - and brexiteers just don't listen.
Immigration- uk could always control - uk gov choose not too

  • laws - anyone hear of the veto? Plus name one law that had affected you that has been opposed by the uk? Maybe one that your beloved Nigel didn't turn up for.....
££££ - have you looked at what the EU funds in the uk?

And while you are here what is you plan for the Irish border - every brexiteer I have asked that - either can't answer or are essentially racist and see the Irish as second class citizens - rather like the Scottish......

It's hot and I have no tolerance today for brexiteer bullshit and rhetoric that is so hollow we all hear the echo....

Emilyontmoor · 25/07/2019 15:14

We get nothing in return for our contribution to the EU? All those companies I have worked with attracted to do business in the U.K. because of the access it gives them to the whole EU market who will go to Dublin or Frankfurt in the event we leave and all the tax revenue it generated. All the funding and collaboration that has enabled our scientists to punch well above our weight. The economic illiteracy of people still trolling out the same tired arguments. We got way more back from the EU in the way of economic, academic and scientific advantage than we contributed. advantage

LonelyTiredandLow · 25/07/2019 15:15

So now we see - like Ukip taking over the Tory party, leavers have to resort to coming onto our threads and getting regular posters banned.

Utter cowards.

DGRossetti · 25/07/2019 15:15

Here we are, point out the racist bit, or fuck off.

For those Leavers who did vote on anti-immigration grounds, I am pleased to see this. Seeing Middle Eastern and more black and brown faces will annoy them even more.

The JRMs of this world will just think "Good. Lower wages."

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 15:15

I am certainly not reposting it because of the content.
It’s a disgrace actually, and shows some remainers really are not behaving appropriately or fairly in his debate or generally.
I understand some may feel upset that we are set to leave now, but some of the comments are way too visceral.

Hester54 · 25/07/2019 15:16

mrslaughan Please tell me, who you can stop FOM from within the EU, ( I’m not accepting the 3 month rule )

DGRossetti · 25/07/2019 15:16

So now we see - like Ukip taking over the Tory party, leavers have to resort to coming onto our threads and getting regular posters banned.

Shrug ... MN has been invaluable to me - but I am under no illusions that it's not reciprocal Grin

Emilyontmoor · 25/07/2019 15:17

I am sat here on an NHS orthopaedic ward with my DD. Five side wards and hardly anyone in here is under 80, they are almost all confused, most are incontinent and a couple won’t even keep their gowns on 😯And Boris says he is going to solve dementia care. It must be one hell of a money tree.....
