It is actually happening.

By 5pm tomorrow Johnson should be Prime Minister, if nothing major goes wrong for him.

Phillip Hammond is expected to resign early in the morning. And there maybe others.

Parliament goes into recess on Thursday. Giving Johnson only enough time to announce a Cabinet and maybe give a brief statement in Parliament.

As it stands Johnson will have an effective majority of 1 if the Brecon by-election goes the way expected next week.

Unless someone else defects. Which isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

We also have Charlie Elphicke now suspended and facing a court appearance on 6th September, just 3 days after Parliament returns after the summer recess.

Remember when parliament returns Johnson must get a Queen's Speech vote to pass to start the new session.

The return of Parliament is 8 weeks before 31st October.

If Johnson can't pass a Queen's Speech... Is there time for a GE before 31st October? By the skin of our teeth? Or a crucial recall petition?

So for all the talk that parliament can we prevented from being prorogued or that we can get a deal by the 31st October, there is a GE shaped problem.

As for Johnson's plan for Brexit. Don't expect to see him say anything but waffly bollocks before that key Queens Speech vote. He can't. Instead expect lots of domestic promises - in part to distract, in part in prep for a possible snap election.

Of course to have an extension the Prime Minister needs to ask for it. Would a GE be enough to get one? And would we be granted one?

On the flip to that is the prospect of May's Deal. Much has been made of its death. But some have said its premature to say that. At the eleventh hour should the situation arise would parliament vote for it, backstop and all, to prevent no deal? Its not beyond the realms of possibility.

All the talk of Johnson driving a change of direction by the force of personality is nonsense. Johnson can use his personality domestically for support, but he his personality offers nothing to the EU.

On top of this all we have the Iran Oil Tanker Crisis. The US were alleged to have set us up, and now told us to look after our own tankers. Leaving us to look to Europe for international security cooperation in the area... Irony isn't lost.

Let us see what tomorrow might bring though...

If he calls a GE the Tories will will a landslide.

I’m happy for this theory to be tested. He’s just about got time to try and get the approval of parliament (as per FTPA) before the summer recess if he gets a wiggle on.

Hazardtired · 24/07/2019 17:25

I'm saying this and then logging off.

If you like Johnson or believe brexit should happen no matter what including no deal then you are supporting, positively, the obstruction of medicines to sick people. To dying people. To society's most vulnerable people.

I am not getting behind that. I will not happily, positively, wankerly support that.

Nope. Never gonna happen. Over my dead body.

The current preparation of stockpiles is not enough. The freedom of information request over what exact medicines are being stockpiled couldn't be released because the list of medicines stockpiled did not exist. Epileptics can't take generic brands of their medication or switch to a different named brand does loveable boris know that?

Is the government stockpiling? No private companies are. So fuck cares what loveable Boris knows because the job of saving lives is in the hands of business people.

So who shall we get behind faceless companies or the government that has nothing to do with it?

The contracts for the fecking ferries won't be bidded on til September. Will the government give the contracts to ferry companies with actual real ferries this time?

Again who am i meant to get behind? Ferry companies? I live in the fucking midlands how am i meant to get behind Ferrie company's when I haven't seen a port in years? Shall I paint a mural to ferrie companies is that positive and patriotic enough? Will that make this shitstorm better?

The businesses are only stockpiling directly life saving meds such as insulin, priority of the imports on the fucking ferries will be meds which are directly life saving. What about indirectly life saving? What about the things that stop people from suffering? what about the meds that help people function? Are antipsychotics directly or indirectly life saving? Or are they not life saving? Would you like to look this up like me? Tough shit we cant!

Ok... got that off my chest.

To any one who voted leave in good faith not expecting this shitstorm who is as half horrified as me - I love you!

Grayling gone? Well, that's an extra 3 billion the government will save on department fuckups.

Palermonese · 24/07/2019 17:31

Boris ? daring to dream he could descend to Sicilian depths of cunning.

He'd be sleeping with the fishes before he could spell it.

dreichhighlands · 24/07/2019 17:32

Getting rid of all of Hunt's supporters I hadn't expected.
It looks vindictive and doesn't suggest great team building abilities.

RedToothBrush · 24/07/2019 17:32

Grayling Resigned?

Grayling Gone*

It's an ill wind, etc.

*assuming he can find his way out.

But rapidly running out of parachutes on Bozza Airways.

Lumene · 24/07/2019 17:36

What an astounding coincidence that Mordaunt has resigned on the very same day the announcement on GRA reforms is ‘unexpectedly’ postponed.

Only the other day she was telling Pink News they were just about to announce. And now she gets to pass on that burning hot political potato to her successor (assuming there is one).

tobee · 24/07/2019 17:37

It was said he was going to be peopling the cabinet with staunch Brexiteers only. Aren't the hoping to do the same to the impartial civil service?

RedToothBrush · 24/07/2019 17:37

Hunt is on his way to see Johnson now apparently

MockerstheFeManist · 24/07/2019 17:39

I can see Bozza taking a personal interest in being "Minister for Women"

For them? Raaaaath-errrrrrr!

And what flattery it is that the St Petersburg troll factory thinks we're important enough for their attention.

RedToothBrush · 24/07/2019 17:39

Adam Bienkov @adambienkov
Boris Johnson at 4pm: Promises to bring the country together as PM.

Boris Johnson at 5pm: Sacks anyone who supported his rival or has ever criticised him in any way.

Start as he means to carrie on by lying?

prettybird · 24/07/2019 17:40

Why should I get behind BJ's government? Confused It doesn't govern in my name. Hmm

Ironically, as it happens, it might be the best thing for my own personal objective - Scottish Independence Smile - but despite that, I don't wish his hell on the UK.

Somerville · 24/07/2019 17:40

Johnson is guillotining away happily. Goodness knows who'll he'll scrape up for his cabinet. There are going to be a lot of backbenchers watching talentless muppets try to do their old jobs...

Iambuffy · 24/07/2019 17:40

Well.
They knew what to expect.

RedToothBrush · 24/07/2019 17:40

This from Donald Tusk is errrr... Very to the point... And short

I love the "in detail"...

Boris doesn't do detail.

DGRossetti · 24/07/2019 17:42

I wonder if Boris thinks Tusks letter is for someone else - another Prime Minister who knows where Northern Ireland is, possibly ?

tobee · 24/07/2019 17:43

Is that "carrie " a deliberate typo Red or a Freudian slip? Grin

MockerstheFeManist · 24/07/2019 17:44

So we already have an opposition oppostion with more talent in its bogies than the shadow cabinet who sit in front of them.

Looks like the Treasury benches will be a mirror image.

Lumene · 24/07/2019 17:45

I can see Bozza taking a personal interest in being "Minister for Women"

Grin Sad Wine
tobee · 24/07/2019 17:45

Mockers might have to steal "more talent in its bogies" Grin
