Westministenders: A New Approach? No chance.

Next week we will have a new PM. He will be called Boris Johnson unless something very odd has happened.

His first 72 hours will be 'interesting' especially if today's events are anything to go by.

His Cabinet is sure to be a horror show. It was noticable who abstained today - they don't think they will be in a Johnson Cabinet and clearly don't want to be.

To move forward Johnson must be able to survive a rebellion and a Queen's speech before now and 31st October.

And be able to unit his party in order to find a way forward.

And whilst parliament has voted to block proroguing parliament, it could still be dissolved if there is a vote of no confidence.

And what happens if Johnson loses a vote? Will he manage to become PM? Will there be a GE.

All the signs are that next week is going to be a hell of a ride.

Enjoy your weekend.

I've been pulling up weeds. And baking a zillion biscuits. (Two things which are harder than you think in this stupid heat). Nervous energy I think.

Never stepped foot in a Boden.

I do think Johnson should be given ikea furniture and told to build it himself as a test of his abilities.

Would he have lots of screws loose?

Jeremy Hunt's Cabinet future on brink after he told Boris Johnson he will not accept demotion from foreign sec

He made clear he's only willing to accept 3 jobs - his current role, chancellor or DPM

Johnson has offered him defence secretary

Hunt has turned it down

Apparently rumour has it Priti Patel as Home Sec.

tobee · 23/07/2019 22:50

Catching up on a month's worth of Eastenders here. Yes, I know.

Dd is watching comedy dog videos. 🐶 🐕

HateIsNotGood · 23/07/2019 22:51

RTB - you already know that Borrie will 'pretend' that he can't put together IKEA, or any furniture together, and leave that for the lackeys following in his wake.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that using IKEA as an example is 'ironic' - otherwise it's the gift that keeps giving Grin.

RedToothBrush · 23/07/2019 22:51

Talk of unity isn't in abundance on twitter tonight. Brexit Twitter is very vocal about how Tory Remainers need to shut up now.

Strange mood and it doesn't reflect the reality of the situation.

Comfort eating (bite size twirls) and a mini Joules stress splurge here, I blame Boris, and the heat, it feels like we're in actual hell.

ElenadeClermont · 23/07/2019 22:56

Emily Maitlis for PM. She is laying into John McDonnell now.

Hasenstein · 23/07/2019 22:59

Apparently rumour has it Priti Patel as Home Sec.

Oh God, two weeks away and the first thing I see when I get back is this.

A largely blissfully politics-free break and now the madness comes thundering back again. Can hell get any deeper (purely rhetorical, no point tempting fate)?

Good lord NO. I’ve seen her a few times on question time. She’s either a blithering idiot or does a great impression of one.

Never thought I’d miss TM as PM and Home Secretary.

Hazardtired · 23/07/2019 23:07

pure offensive nastiness

Nope. No. And nah.

People dying or killing themselves over ESA refusal and UC fuck ups. Disruption to medicine supplies. Under funded NHS. Prisons with little staff and no education facilities and prisoners sleeping with rats crawling about. Carers allowance at 66 quid a week for a minimum of 35 hrs labour a wk. Foodbanks. Homelessness. Sterling falling. And more. That's pure nastiness. Calling a pig shagger a pig shagger is just facts.

Belindabelle · 23/07/2019 23:07

Hasenstein I am so sorry! I haven’t been on here for ages either.

That was also mooted on the Saturday R4 politics programme.

Patel always reminds me of Lucy Ewing from Dallas Wink

Hasenstein · 23/07/2019 23:16

Belindabelle

I'd been hoping for a gentle reintroduction to lunacy, but I suppose it's better just to hold your nose and jump in.

But, seriously, Priti Patel. Priti bloody Patel! That's tantamount to scraping the barrel bottom so far you're digging up concrete. Is the country really to be run by people like this? Low-grade doesn't do it justice.

And I thought Chris Grayling had made me immune to this sort of fuckwittery.

Peregrina · 23/07/2019 23:40

HateIs - your DS should be congratulated - it sounds as though he's got his head screwed on.

Which is more than can be said for Johnson, Patel, and the other shall we say unimpressive people likely to be given office under Johnson. A lazy man like him needs to surround himself with able people, not ones who seem to be trying to win a prize for idiocy.

I am glad to hear that Hunt is digging his heels in.

HateIsNotGood · 23/07/2019 23:51

Peregrina, thank you, I'm very proud of DS (as we all are of our own dc), he's had to negotiate the SEN system and come through it in a way that most don't. Yes, I might have had a hand in helping him, but he's himself and his own creation. And I respect his views.

HateIsNotGood · 24/07/2019 00:06

Hazard do you have any evidence that our PM "shags pigs"? Link please. Whilst I'm no defender of Borrie, do you honestly think your words are acceptable to ascribe to any human being?

I patently think you are wrong. You have every right to feel/feelz unhappy, angry or whatever but you're crossing a line and need to rein it in.

SwedishEdith · 24/07/2019 00:09

The pig-shagging is obviously a reference to Cameron. The story was, possibly, made-up though.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 24/07/2019 00:12

I'm happy to question the current 'censorship' but hev forfend I'm sending my ds out to face this sort of vitriol ill-equipped. Don't you see what you are allowing yourselves to turn into?

Hate Because I fling an insult at someone whose primary duty was to safeguard the people of this country but who was arrogant enough and self-serving enough to put his own interests and those of his party ahead of that duty and who, as a result, set in motion a series of events that will do untold damage to countless people, many of them children, it does not follow that I would unleash any sort of vitriol on a child and I’m not sure why you think it would Confused.

For what it’s worth I think your son sounds like a very thoughtful young man and I’m sure you are, rightly, very proud of him.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 24/07/2019 00:14

Sorry alleged pig-shagger.
