The NI border issue can never be resolved can it?

We would have left by now if is wasn’t for the border issue in NI and I genuinely can’t see a positive outcome.

If, 20 years after the GFA, peace is still so fragile a border is incompressible and any other option basically breaks up the union - how can it ever end well?

Ridiculous censorship by MNHQ.

Isthisafreename · 18/07/2019 10:21

@Clavinova - your conflation of learning difficulties and thick is the distasteful part, not that most people would need that explained to them.

bellinisurge · 18/07/2019 10:23

Flushing out prejudicial shit is not censorship. You should stick to cut and paste that no one reads.

Clavinova · 18/07/2019 10:25

Oh come of it - 1tisILeClerc was making a joke about Leave voters having learning difficulties - my post was completely harmless.

Clavinova · 18/07/2019 10:26

off it

Isthisafreename · 18/07/2019 10:37

You keep telling yourself that.

bellinisurge · 18/07/2019 10:42

Yes. Not offensive at all. That's why it got pulled. Just to piss you off. ConfusedBiscuit

I would actually take issue with the leaflet itself in that it learning difficulties should not have been mentioned.
It is a very clear format, with limited use of colour so that those with poorer eyesight would find it easier to read, unlike the other version with a lot of use of colour.
It also broke the points into easy sentences so that those who may not have English as their first language, of which there are prospectively several Million in the UK, can grasp the meanings.

I had missed the part where it had said learning difficulties, and I actually find that offensive to have been stated.
For what it is worth I haven't read all the 160 or so pages of the WTO report, as I only skimmed through it to find information.

Johnson has figured out a solution to the issue of the British land border here:

He wrote: "If they could use hand-knitted computer code to make a frictionless re-entry to Earth’s atmosphere in 1969, we can solve the problem of frictionless trade at the Northern Irish border.

"There is no task so simple that government cannot overcomplicate if it doesn’t want to do it. And there are few tasks so complex that humanity cannot solve if we have a real sense of mission to pull them off.

"It is time this country recovered some its can-do spirit. We can come out of the EU on October 31, and yes, we certainly have the technology to do so. What we need now is the will and the drive."

Mr Johnson claimed the solution to the Brexit impasse must be "technical and logistical".

Insisting that the issue of how to keep the Northern Ireland border open could be solved through technology, he denounced "technological pessimists...some of them apparently in London" who think such a solution is "impossible".

I wonder when and where he got his IT qualifications as anyone with any technical expertise reckons the technology doesn't currently exist.

Isthisafreename · 22/07/2019 12:53

Not everyone agrees with him.

The NI border issue can never be resolved can it?
SistemaAddict · 22/07/2019 13:10

HOUSE!!!

MindyStClaire · 22/07/2019 13:24

It's ok, Michael Gove is going to be NI secretary, all will be fine.

DGRossetti · 22/07/2019 14:56

And there are few tasks so complex that humanity cannot solve if we have a real sense of mission to pull them off.

Of course ! So the fact that there are millions of people that go unfed, unwatered, unhoused, unhealed around a globe that is increasingly suffering from environmental stress is because manking lacks a real sense of mission ?

Do fuck off Boris. And the arse licking journalists you rode into town on.

Isthisafreename · 22/07/2019 15:39

@DGRossetti because manking lacks a real sense of mission

I think what he means is that it only becomes important enough to require a sense of mission if it's important to his advancement.

DGRossetti · 22/07/2019 15:41

What he really means is when it all goes titsup,. it will be our fault for "not believing" enough.

Just like Brexit itself.

Isthisafreename · 22/07/2019 15:59

@DGRossetti - it's important to have somebody to blame. Unfortunately for him, the EU are having none of it.

UKvsTheWorld · 23/07/2019 08:22

as anyone with any technical expertise reckons the technology doesn't currently exist

If it does exist it seems to being kept secret. Don't remember hearing any description as to what the technology would be, what it looks like and how it works?

CrunchyCarrot · 23/07/2019 08:25

Where's your optimism?? Grin I couldn't resist doing a bit of photoshopping. Made this myself. No copyright infringement is intended, just in case someone somewhere objects!

The NI border issue can never be resolved can it?
Isthisafreename · 23/07/2019 09:00

@CrunchyCarrot - most impressive. He'll take you on for his PR.

Isthisafreename · 23/07/2019 09:02

@UKvsTheWorld - Don't remember hearing any description as to what the technology would be, what it looks like and how it works?

Mere details. It's like the time parliament voted to have the WA but with something else instead of the backstop. Yes Minister has nothing on them.

MindyStClaire · 23/07/2019 13:16

Anyone else notice him talking about the relationship between "Britain" and the EU, rather than the UK? Doesn't exactly fill one with optimism.

Linwin · 23/07/2019 16:35

No it doesn’t. I imagine he’d sell NI down the river given have a chance.

We’ve a small business in NI and everyone we talk to, customers and suppliers alike are absolutely petrified. Even those who voted leave have come to the realisation that any kind of Brexit is going to be a disaster for us Sad

Isthisafreename · 23/07/2019 19:09

@MindyStClaire - Anyone else notice him talking about the relationship between "Britain" and the EU, rather than the UK?

Maybe he's using the BBC definition of British. They were claiming Shane Lowry was a British golfer a few days ago.

Isthisafreename · 23/07/2019 21:49

Oops. Sky, not BBC, claimed him as British.

Peregrina · 23/07/2019 21:53

Wasn't it Team GB for the Olympics? It ought at least to have been Team UK and even that would have excluded those Olympians from the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
