We are trapped in the tailspin of the end of the UK. Firmly headed downward and getting more and more frenzied and desperate.

Even the most sensible of types like David Allen Green have finally noticed that Brexit isn't about leaving the EU it's about the frenzied and wilful destruction of our state instutions and structure. The collapse of the civil service, of our justice system, our democratic institutions and social order. All in the name of rule Britannia, a warped sense of taking back control to preserve an ideal that never existed and an idea of sovereignity that simply was a fantasy.

We move ever closer to Johnson becoming Prime Minister and a life under President Trump.

Joy.

Ode to Joy really isn't that bad.

That letter should be sent to every leaver who says leave.eu supporters aren't racist fuckers.

DGRossetti · 12/07/2019 14:17

That Lammy letter is revolting. What kind of twat would write something like that?

Someone who feels emboldened by the creep of Faragism ?

I want a Leaver who still believes in Leave to defend that letter. Because it is Leavers like that who are enabling the rise of the right with all that entails.

Iambuffy · 12/07/2019 14:31

..
And all in CAPITAL letters....

DGRossetti · 12/07/2019 14:33

And all in CAPITAL letters....

SOP for nasty letter writes. Their freeman of the land chums told them you can't be traced if you write in all capitals.

As I say, the person that wrote that is a man. I would be 99.999% sure of that. Even if I couldn't understand the language.

Iambuffy · 12/07/2019 14:42

A White, angry little man.

Yep.

A White, angry little man.

I'll just stick with man. (Or someone bought up as a man Grin) . No idea about stature or skin colour. If there were childs life at stake, and I was forced into some sort of educated guess I would suggest someone older than 60ish. But that's intuition more than experience.

I can make a very educated guess as to how they write their "7"s though Grin ....

Look at the Yaxley-Lennon rioters to see the likely demographic

If it's just about the national interest and trade deals, it would have made more sense to suck up to Juncker than to Trump:
45% of our foreign trade is with the EU vs about 11% with the USA

Mark Hennessy@MarkHennessy

Dear God, can you imagine how British politicians would have reacted if Juncker had said boo to the UK’s Permanent Representative in Brussels?

Welcome to the world facing post-Brexit UK #brexit

BigChocFrenzy · 12/07/2019 15:27

If Dianne Abbott (or any other woman MP from the left or centre) published the mail she receives,
it would add sadistic rape threats to the violent fantasies targeted on Lammy

DGRossetti · 12/07/2019 15:32

If Dianne Abbott (or any other woman MP from the left or centre) published the mail she receives, it would add sadistic rape threats to the violent fantasies targeted on Lammy

Well, yes. But she is a woman after all, so should learn to deal with it.

(Again, the ironicless flag goes up ...)

prettybird · 12/07/2019 15:52

Unfortunately Hmm To Brexiters, the fact that 45% of our trade is with the EU and only 11% with the US is proof that the EU is bad for trade Confused Because of our one sided "Special Relationship", we "should" be doing more business with the US and it's the nasty EU stopping us Hmm

Nothing to do with a) our geographical proximity to the EU Confused and b) if we had the "right" products (apart from whisky Wink), then we would be able to do more trade with the US. Funny how Germany manages to export to them Confused (can't check the relative percentages as I'm in the app and risk losing my post if I go and look).

LouiseCollins28 · 12/07/2019 15:58

I am a Leaver as I'm sure is well known on here by now, and I still do want to leave the EU but there is no defending that letter.

Taking it at face value and assuming that it's actually real (many things "published" on the internet prove not to be) then it's absolutely appalling. No way am I defending that.

I can find lots to criticise in David Lammy's politics, but want me to defend that racist nonsense? No chance.

SistemaAddict · 12/07/2019 16:00

PMK.
I met a real life millennium bug analogist the other day. I thought they only existed online. Apparently I'll be able to buy anything I want from wherever I want after brexit and needn't worry because planes didn't fall out of the sky Confused

Iambuffy · 12/07/2019 16:03

"Assuming its real"...

Here we go....

BestIsWest · 12/07/2019 16:16

Assuming it’s real ??? Well someone wrote it fgs.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/07/2019 16:21

It was tweeted by Lammy

I'm 100% sure Lammy didn't invent it

It would destroy his career - and since he handed it to the police, he would be charged with wasting police time, a criminal offence

All for a story that won't even be page 10 in most papers

woodpigeons · 12/07/2019 16:36

Racism is everywhere.
My black son has been called the n word for no apparent reason except existing.
It’s very hard to have to bring up your children to deal with racism.

bellinisurge · 12/07/2019 16:51

That's horrible @woodpigeons .

BigChocFrenzy · 12/07/2019 17:05

Your poor DS, woodpigeon 💐

In the 1960s, I was daily called "wog" in school, but I didn't personally experience open racism after the mid-1970s

I'd thought that in-your-face nastiness had died out .....
then the ref happened,
and the nasties crawled out from under the stones where they had been hiding
.... and I realised I just hadn't been paying attention

RHTawneyonabus · 12/07/2019 17:21

That’s awful Woodpigeons.

It’s pretty dreadful to suggest David Lammy a person of the highest integrity has made that up. It’s sadly all too believable anyway.

DGRossetti · 12/07/2019 17:24

So where is LouiseCollins28's calling out all the pro-Brexit stories that might be made up ? And yet one tweet by David Lammy needs the third degree ?

BigChocFrenzy · 12/07/2019 17:55

Is the US nudging Britain into dangerous waters with Iran?

It's dangerous being a poodle

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jul/11/is-the-us-nudging-britain-into-dangerous-waters-with-iran

Lady Goldie, for the government, insisted the request to intercept the ship came from the government of Gibraltar,
but Foreign Office officials in the past have indicated the biggest factor in play was pressure from the US.
....
Nathalie Tocci, the special adviser to the EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, put the UK decision in a wider political context.

“The UK is feeling its own fragility and a fear of isolation as it tries to cut off its membership from the EU.
There’s a line connecting the Iran story and the UK ambassador to the US.”

Either way, once Grace 1 had been seized, UK shipping in the Gulf was in Iranian crosshairs.

By the weekend, the British government was privately advising British flagged vessels not to carry oil through the Gulf,
leading to an abrupt about-turn of a BP tanker, British Heritage, heading to collect oil in Basra.

DGRossetti · 12/07/2019 18:03

Is the US nudging Britain into dangerous waters with Iran?

Oh FFS this is getting pathetic. I asked/posited that question 2-3 days ago now. On the previous thread. WTF are these people doing ? Or did they only just read it.

Of more import - and therefore less reported - is the disguised fact that the Royal Navy isn't up to the task. We simply don't have enough ships - let alone the right ships - to guarantee safe passage to all shipping in the area.

It would also be a good idea to remember Iran is more than capable of giving the UK a bloody nose.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Iranian_arrest_of_Royal_Navy_personnel

The take-home message is that the Iranian navy is more than capable of sneaking up on a British naval ship if it wants to. Moreover, if the UK is stupid enough to think it's got friends in Washington, the Iranians are also more than happy to put that to the test. As I noted in my last post, they haven't forgotten Operation Ajax even if we - and Trump - have.
