Westminstenders: It couldn't get any worse... Until today

We are trapped in the tailspin of the end of the UK. Firmly headed downward and getting more and more frenzied and desperate.

Even the most sensible of types like David Allen Green have finally noticed that Brexit isn't about leaving the EU it's about the frenzied and wilful destruction of our state instutions and structure. The collapse of the civil service, of our justice system, our democratic institutions and social order. All in the name of rule Britannia, a warped sense of taking back control to preserve an ideal that never existed and an idea of sovereignity that simply was a fantasy.

We move ever closer to Johnson becoming Prime Minister and a life under President Trump.

Joy.

Ode to Joy really isn't that bad.

On the subject of:

Stephen Yaxley Lennon
Tommy Robinson
Andrew McMaster
Paul Harris
Wayne King

What was Katie Hopkins doing there? If there wasn't a joint picture of them both I'd think she was another alias.

He was jailed for 9 months today.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48950672

The nine month jail sentence served on Thursday includes six months for the Leeds Crown Court offence last year and another three months for contempt of court, following a suspended sentence given at Canterbury Crown Court in May 2017.

If he fails to overturn this he's not eligible to stand for election again in future I believe.

Who would we like his milkshake drinking cellmate to be?

BigChocFrenzy · 11/07/2019 14:00

because if time served the last time, he only has 19 weeks remaining. of which he'll only serve half,
i.e. just 9.5 weeks in jail

1tisILeClerc · 11/07/2019 14:00

SKY was reporting he will only be behind bars for 10 weeks. Curious, but whatever.

“Jumping from league one to league three”: WTO insiders’ scathing assessments of a WTO Brexit

https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/economics-and-finance/jumping-from-league-one-to-league-three-wto-insiders-scathing-assessments-of-a-wto-brexit

Pascal Lamy, Director General of the WTO from 2005 to 2013,

“Jumping brutally from trade league one (the internal market without borders)
to trade league three (a WTO, multilaterally committed trade regime for goods and services)
would certainly hurt.”
.....
Alarmingly, when I put this question to Azevêdo WTO Director General,
he said Gatt 24 would simply not apply with a no-deal outcome.

“Article XXIV of the GATT is simply the provision of global trade law under which free trade agreements and customs unions are concluded,” he explained.

The problem is that it only kicks in in the event of such a deal being struck.

"If there is no agreement, then Article XXIV would not apply, and the standard WTO terms would".
....
As Lamy explained,
under WTO rules, Britain could not just lower tariffs specifically for EU trade

because without the formal framework of a deal that would count as granting unfair, privileged access.

The “WTO regime implies tariffs which have to apply to all [the UK’s] trade partners,” he said.
There is no simple way around this
and the EU is bound by the same rules.

I'm sure you're right on Mick Jagger getting his pockets filled by Trump DGR. Person is further right politically = that person has less appreciation for the aesthetic is an interesting generalisation tho!

Re: Trump Music (sorry to Michael Connelly!) I always enjoyed the MSNBC host and/or Young Turks reactions to the Trump pick of the "Air Force One" theme as entrance music for his 2016 election victory speech Grin

Thank you @Iambuffy for yesterday's comment.

bellinisurge · 11/07/2019 14:49

Just heard an interesting theory on Brexitcast. Anything they get from the EU would basically be the same as WA but Johnson is the only one who could win ERG around to accepting it. " lipstick on a pig" - do they notice the pig or the lipstick.

tobee · 11/07/2019 15:35

Catching up on thread.
*
1tis* (and others) have mentioned about the "willy waving " contest. I'm sure there's always been a large element of that in those seeking power (not sure how that pans out for women?) in the highest echelons. But you got the feeling people were in it for other reasons as well. With today's bunch wishing to run the country they don't seem to have any other motivation really.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 11/07/2019 16:10

Thanks Red

Just caught the end of a live broadcast by Mike Galsworthy reporting on how Tommy Robinson supporters have smashed up the Sodem camp outside the Houses of Parliament.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 11/07/2019 16:11

Posted too soon.

Thankfully nobody was hurt but there’s a crowd funder to replace everything that’s been destroyed.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 11/07/2019 16:16

I’ve just watched the start of the report. Apparently it’s not a new crowdfunder but they are appealing for another £1k to be added to their existing one to replace all the flags etc.

It seems the Sodem protesters were chased away and Steve Bray took refuge in his car which was then jumped on by Yaxley Lennon supporters. Police weren’t around at the time. It must have been very frightening.

LonelyTiredandLow · 11/07/2019 16:19

FFS, how many times are we going to be told that IRA are the terrorists we shouldn't be appeasing?

LonelyTiredandLow · 11/07/2019 16:20

Obviously I'm not trying to compare the two but why is it not the same rule for one bunch of angry men in Leaver eyes? They don't care about the Union, so why?

1tisILeClerc · 11/07/2019 16:26

Time for some music?

tobee · 11/07/2019 16:32

You would have thought police would have been around? Confused

LonelyTiredandLow · 11/07/2019 16:34

tobee exactly - Yaxley supporters are well known to be trouble.

mathanxiety · 11/07/2019 16:53

I love spending time there but I really wouldn’t want to live with their massive inequality and lack of state support and the risk your life could be ruined by medical bills.

The UK is about to be transformed into a replica.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 11/07/2019 16:54

You would have thought police would have been around? confused

Tobee From what I could gather the police were elsewhere dealing with the Yaxley supporters and this was a breakaway group. not sure of the details - only know what Mike Galsworthy talked about

mathanxiety · 11/07/2019 17:08

Bring in a US senate system. Let's become a federal republic with the first President B. Johnson, we'd need the congress thing , those biased political judges in federal courts, ooohh and the death penalty, two chambers of Congress, House of representatives etc. At least I'd understand the US system then. Retire the whole William/Kate/Meghan/Harry circus. Swap the with Union Jack for the Stars and Stripes - let's do the whole shebang. We could do that standing with our hand on our heart thing. That's what the Brexit brigade want- let's give them it!

They don't want any of the technical details and they have no concept of checks and balances. They want to be able to kick the ungrateful poor in the teeth, to clear the homeless off the streets, to give ASBO youths a fair trial and then hang them. The thought of American warships steaming back and forth wielding big sticks all over the globe adds to their personal self esteem, they want to flourish their blue passports and have customs and immigration officials doff their caps and call them Sir, to wear MUKGA baseball caps and have their leader smile at them and express his fondness for the poorly educated. They want revenge for the class system. Brexit is all about money for the ERG but it's about emotion in the voters who support it. YY to nihilism.

mathanxiety · 11/07/2019 17:09

LOL, love how some of the folks on here literally want us to be run by the EU!

Case in point. ^^

lonelyplanetmum · 11/07/2019 17:17

They want to be able to kick the ungrateful poor in the teeth, to clear the homeless off the streets,

I'm confused about the Brexit brigade's happiness at emulating the US to be honest. Although it's decreased slightly there's 40 million to 45 million Americans estimated to be living below the federal poverty level. Is that seen as a plus or a minus from the Faragist standpoint?

mathanxiety · 11/07/2019 17:25

The appeal of the idea of the US for Brexit voters is all about identifying with the biggest and brashest, and thumbing their noses at people who are educated and who don't eat fast food. The same goes for those millions of the American poor who voted for Trump.

DGRossetti · 11/07/2019 17:26

It's a plus when they start dying.
