Westministenders: Hustings and Humilation

Round 1 has passed.
Boris is winning. But these are the Tories. Surprises might yet happen.

But the chances are the lying buffon is full speed ahead to be the next PM. As long as he manages to keep his mouth shut.

Unfortunately being Prime Minister involves talking. This might prove to be something that bursts the BorisMania rather rapidly.

A GE is still very much on the cards.

And we might face the Constitutional and undemocratic shutting down of parliament to satisfy the Tory Faithless.

Meanwhile the EU couldn't give less shits. They just think we are wasting the time we were granted in good faith.

31st October beckons with No Deal.

Corbyn is considering a very interesting proposal to tax any more than a lifetime figure total of 125k for parents.
This would make it more difficult for people to avoid IHT by gifting

It's naturally been slated on MN AIBU already, by the sharp-elbowed mc.

imo, a very interesting idea, as imherited wealth & gifts of wealth make a massive difference in average life chances,
e.g. able to advance careers with free internships, buy a house with a large deposit, afford to start a family when they want ...

I prefer to move to taxing wealth and away from taxing income, so people from poorer families - who don't receive a head start from parents - have a better chance to move up the ladder

People would still receive higher gifts, but would pay tax on it, like other income

Presumably DC requiring lifetime paid care, for mental or physical disability, would be exempt

BigChocFrenzy · 16/06/2019 18:39

Gove: "There is nothing more important than preventing Jeremy Corbyn getting into Downing Street." Hmm

Even Corbyn could never fuck up the economy as badly as a Tory No Deal would

SouthWestmom · 16/06/2019 18:40

I've found you just so I can read comments on the debate. Gone off Rory since his LBC interview this morning.

MockerstheFeManist · 16/06/2019 18:40

It's the C4 Great (mass?) debate tonght.

Hope they put up an empty podium for the absent one.

Belindabelle · 16/06/2019 18:43

It’s on now. Yes empty podium.

SouthWestmom · 16/06/2019 18:44

Why did boris duck out?

RedToothBrush · 16/06/2019 18:46

Just switched on.

Interesting to see Stewart shut up Raab and interrupt in the most polite manner I've ever seen!!!

I can barely stand to watch it. Supercilious tossers!

LonelyTiredandLow · 16/06/2019 18:46

What did Rory say on LBC? He's the only one I can bear to listen to.

All a bit irrelevant as these debates aren't really aimed at us but the Tories who will elect one of them.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/06/2019 18:48

I'm cheering Sajid 'you don't support democracy by trashing our democracy' (or something like that.) Yes agreed.

georgedawes · 16/06/2019 18:49

Just watching. I'm clearly not the target audience but surprised at how few claps they're getting.

MockerstheFeManist · 16/06/2019 18:49

....blimey, yes.

Two minutes was enough.

Pompous Arses R Us.

Back to the football.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/06/2019 18:50

I think its a restrained crowd.

georgedawes · 16/06/2019 18:52

There seems a real disconnect between the arguments that they think will win the leadership election and what this audience (of floating voters) want to hear.

Tory problem in a nutshell!

BigChocFrenzy · 16/06/2019 18:52

Empty space where Boris should be - will anyone notice ? Grin

Too chicken even to debate his fellow Tories

Is he going to hide from the EU - that's why he wants No Deal, because he's a coward like Cameron

Bullingdon Boys trash the country, then run away

Singingcricket · 16/06/2019 18:53

I'm cringing at Gove's "pieces to camera".

Rory is at least more pragmatic.

Violetparis · 16/06/2019 18:53

Hope one of the questions to Gove is about the promised £350 million to the NHS.

LonelyTiredandLow · 16/06/2019 18:55

I think they should all take the opportunity to talk at the empty space and make out he is completely lost for something to say... Boris would hate that! Grin He's not there to defend himself or bamboozle people in his usual manner through his own choice; a rare chance to take advantage I say!

Belindabelle · 16/06/2019 18:57

Gove has obviously had some media coaching with his long looks down the camera. Hilarious.

Rory coming over well but he is in the dog house with me for reaching out to Farage.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/06/2019 18:58

Jereny hunt has pointed out the invisible Boris

SouthWestmom · 16/06/2019 18:58

On LBC he rang in and told Nigel he should be part of negotiations

RedToothBrush · 16/06/2019 19:01

Gove is bombing on twitter...
