Westministenders: Hustings and Humilation

Round 1 has passed.
Boris is winning. But these are the Tories. Surprises might yet happen.

But the chances are the lying buffon is full speed ahead to be the next PM. As long as he manages to keep his mouth shut.

Unfortunately being Prime Minister involves talking. This might prove to be something that bursts the BorisMania rather rapidly.

A GE is still very much on the cards.

And we might face the Constitutional and undemocratic shutting down of parliament to satisfy the Tory Faithless.

Meanwhile the EU couldn't give less shits. They just think we are wasting the time we were granted in good faith.

31st October beckons with No Deal.

oubliette because if they told the truth nobody in the two groups of people they are trying to impress, the MP’s or Tory Party membership would vote for them. This is all about survival of the Tories and has nothing to do with what’s best for the country.

They are not interested in the truth. That’s too difficult to deal with.

Peregrina · 16/06/2019 13:25

There have been media headlines for years about far left entryism into the Labour Party. Funny how the far more significant entryism - into a much smaller Tory party - receives hardly any attention.

While the media continues their love in with Farage/Johnson and carrying on with their Corbyn bashing, they are missing the fact that the LibDems have been piling on members - in certain parts of the country at least. So the Local and EU election results didn't come as a surprise to them. I suspect that the same can be said for the Greens, but I don't have the same contacts with them.

You can be 100% sure that the oppostion parties in Johnson's seat will pile every effort in to unseat him. Whichever party did this it would be a tremendous coup for them. Hiss boo, if it was the Brexit party. Muted cheers from me if Labour, because Corbyn would take that as a vote for Lexit.

BigChocFrenzy · 16/06/2019 13:30

Shock, horror
Tory Brexiter candidates promise unicorns again
Lying bastards still lying

BigChocFrenzy · 16/06/2019 13:37

That's interesting, peregrina
Are there recent national figures for how LDem memberhip has grown ?
It was ca. 100k last year

The HoC data for all parties' membership is from 2018 and Tory party membership has certainly changed:

researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN05125

As of April 2018, Labour had 540,000 members
compared to just under 125,500 SNP members as of August 2018
and 124,000 Conservative members reported in March 2018.
As of August 2018, The Liberal Democrats had 99,200,
Green Party 39,400,
UKIP 23,600
and Plaid Cymru 8,000 members.

BigChocFrenzy · 16/06/2019 13:43

The DUP membership was not listed there - not UK / British ? too small ? -
but I read elsewhere that it is only about 1,000
That would make them idiculously easy to infilitate, but I don't know how reliable that number is

Peregrina · 16/06/2019 14:07

The LibDems were up to 105,000 nationally a couple of weeks ago, with 20,000 joining 'recently'. If the local picture is reflected nationally recently means since the Euro elections. It doesn't quite tie in with the reported figures from 2018 but some join for a year or two and then don't renew, so the total membership can at times appear to be static.

Nor can it be like the Labour or hard right Tory entryism. Even if people were joining to vote for the new leader, unlike the other two parties, there is no candidate that half the party want and the other half want to stop at all costs.

prettybird · 16/06/2019 14:20

I've now read that Jeremy Vine story about Boris that cackleweb linked to late last night: it is important to read it all the way through.

It makes me even more concerned if that were even possible Shock about him being PM Sad

Peregrina · 16/06/2019 14:23

Apparently Dominic Raab has said if we do not leave the EU it will be the end of the Conservative party.

Grin Grin I can't wait - as long as it doesn't get reborn as a bigger Brexit party.

Iambuffy · 16/06/2019 14:47

Can you link to it pretty?

1tisILeClerc · 16/06/2019 15:13

{ if we do not leave the EU it will be the end of the Conservative party.}
'Oh dear, how sad, never mind'!

BigChocFrenzy · 16/06/2019 15:32

So that's yet another reason to Remain Grin

Won't making a total disaster of Brexit also mean the end of the Tory party ?

QueenOfThorns · 16/06/2019 15:52

I’m pretty sure that Boris gave exactly the same reason for ‘needing’ to leave the EU on 31 October. Personally struggling to see the potential demise of the Tory party as a reason to leave the EU. Or a negative of any sort Confused

DGRossetti · 16/06/2019 16:01

Apparently Dominic Raab has said if we do not leave the EU it will be the end of the Conservative party.

The really good thing is that if we do leave, it will be the end of the Tory party.

howabout · 16/06/2019 16:13

Anyone watch Marr this morning? (Andy B was on top form but could do with taking up jogging - sorry complete aside)

Jeremy Hunt negotiating tactic seems to be sort out the Political Declaration to negate the Backstop and BTW he is dropping corporate tax rates to Irish levels in all circumstances (argued the £30bn cost would be dwarfed by turbo charged growth I assume at EU27's expense).

Basilpots · 16/06/2019 16:17

I share some of Peregrinas thoughts. Great to the of end of Tories in their current guise, because that is all they deserve after dragging the country down this path of self destruction. However if that paves the way for a strong BXP surge that could well be worse.

Does anybody know how many ‘subscribers’ Farage Fan group has now ?

howabout · 16/06/2019 16:17

Something to make your blood boil pretty. I'm pretty sure he was joking though Grin

1tisILeClerc · 16/06/2019 16:21

{BXP surge}
The BXP is a party of 'vacuum' with no real capability.

Basilpots · 16/06/2019 16:34

I really hope you are right 1tis

prettybird · 16/06/2019 17:06

I'd seen that before howabout - and decided linking to it on here gave BoJo more credibility that he deserves Wink

Ds thinks that BoJo would be good for Scotland ConfusedShock .......

.....because it would bring about our independence more quickly Grin

prettybird · 16/06/2019 17:14

Iambuffy - here is the link

You need to read to the end to understand why the first story is relevant HmmShock

BTW: TiP told me how brilliant you were and how while she might have put you on a path, you followed it Grin She loves the "Debt" gang. Nutters the lot of them - but they have the tools to carry on the good work.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 16/06/2019 18:08

I was interested to read Queenofthorns comments upthread about the effect of some of the more dystopian predications that crop up on these threads from time to time - part of the reason I’ve taken a bit of a Brexit break recently. My mental health pretty demanded it. However, it turns out my mental health also didn’t appreciate not knowing what was going on so I’m tentatively dipping my toe back in in time for the leadership debate tonight. I will no doubt wish I hadn’t...

Feeling very trapped here. DH’s pre-existing medical conditions mean insurance is impossible and so living in another EU country will never be an option. I’m at the stage where I’d just be grateful to know the NHS will survive enough for us not to need private insurance here as if we did - well - how?

Going back further upthread, I’m another non Scot, non Scotland dweller who would be very happy to have Nicola as leader - Yvette if Nicola isn’t interested.

And, sadly, I am old enough to have recognised DG’s tub of lard reference...

Cherrypi · 16/06/2019 18:22

Anyone watching channel 4 at half past? It's on earlier than I thought.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/06/2019 18:25

I think my TV would be in danger of going through the window if I watched!

Plus we have Go Jetters on. I think I'm actually winning due to that! Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 16/06/2019 18:26

Hunt is spouting typical Tory doctrinaire bollocks

They all want tax cuts for the better off and for business, paid for by less well off - spending cuts, tightening up further on benefits etc

As for "turbo-charged growth !" GrinGrin

On WTO terms with almost everyone, including our nearest neighbours with whom we do 10% of our trade ?
Exporters only managed a very small improvement about a bloody 12% devaluation

Noone outside Britain , e.g. IMF, is forecasting anything other than UK GDP dropping after No Deal
The only difference is whether this is the most optimistic figure - 3% - or the most pessimistic - or 8% as the UK govt impact study

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/06/2019 18:36

Gove started out confident
