It's going to be Boris, isn't it. Shoot me now.

Jeremy Hunt any one he came 2nd.
6 votes in front of gove

TeaAddict235 · 13/06/2019 14:25

Well if Max Hastings has such contempt for him and was his (in effect) manager for so long at the newspaper, why didn't they get rid of him and wipe the smirk off his face? Why is it okay to keep hiring and paying mediocre white men to do jobs?? Max Hastings could have employed anyone to write, but no, he kept to the status quo and kept funding Bonker Boris.

Boris' personal life is complete havoc, his work life isn't any more ordered either. He just keeps going from well paid post to well paid post because the men at the top would rather have someone like themselves than someone who will ask the right questions, speak and think differently far more akin to the non elite than themselves. As long as we keep employing the less-than -average achievers who have little understanding of the everyday (not at all homogenous way of life), then things will not improve.

tallertales · 13/06/2019 14:26

Boris will be good. I would prefer Michael Gove but still at least Boris will get us out of the EU.

As others have said, don't believe anything Boris says. Boris will only get us out of the EU if he thinks it will further his ambitions. If you think Boris gives a shit about anyone but Boris, you haven't been paying attention.

HairyMcWary · 13/06/2019 14:31

Really wish I hadn't let my Conservative party membership lapse. I would have voted for anyone but him!

BrexitBingoGenerator · 13/06/2019 14:33

Don’t understand these folk who glibly say that boris will be good.

What has he ever done that is good?

bellinisurge · 13/06/2019 14:33

@Coppersulphate , I think @Bearbehind has put it rather succinctly. Beware of Boris, I think he's just as likely to keep the UK in.

Coppersulphate · 13/06/2019 14:35

I think all politicians are only interested in themselves and power. Boris is no different.
His personal life is irrelevant as long as it is lawful.

I do not think Boris will make a good PM.
I do think he will win a GE and get us out of the EU.
Which is why he is popular with the other MPs

weegiemum · 13/06/2019 14:37

I'm sending dh and the dc to get Irish passports. I'm not eligible (I'd have to live in NI for 3 years and that's not happening. Similar, dh and dc all eligible for German passports (through his dad) but not me. I'll just have hope that Scotland gets independence then membership of the EU.

bellinisurge · 13/06/2019 14:40

@Coppersulphate , it's not about his personal life - although that is shifty as fuck. Can you trust him with your precious Brexit?

placemats · 13/06/2019 14:55

I don’t have a problem with Boris - I think he’s the best option to Remain.

Agree Bearbehind

Caucasianchalkcircles · 13/06/2019 14:57

Re the comment about how it doesn’t matter who wins ultimately, as long as they get us out of the EU, I really don’t get how this hatred for the Eu trumps concern for the well being of the country and it’s people. How you’re quite happy to see ordinary people suffer just to leave the Eu. Mind boggling ...Confused

Coppersulphate · 13/06/2019 14:57

Bellini,
Do I trust Boris to get us out of the EU? No, of course I don't.
He is a politician.
By definition untrustworthy, a liar, and full of self interest.
But better than the others (except Gove).

Topseyt · 13/06/2019 14:57

I don't believe that Boris was even truly on the side of Leave in the referendum.

I think he is just an opportunist. He headed the Leave campaign because he wanted to oust Cameron and run for Prime Minister himself. I don't believe his plan was for Leave to win. He planned to use a narrow Remain win (which many polls thought would happen) to lever Cameron out of No. 10 and run for the job himself, without having to do too much work because Remain had won.

Unfortunately, it didn't quite go to plan. Remember the picture of him and Gove at their so-called victory speech the morning after the referendum? They looked horrified, and like a pair of naughty schoolboys waiting outside the headmaster's office.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was a closet remainer.

Anyone who trusts a single word he utters is hopelessly naïve.

Topseyt · 13/06/2019 15:01

I'm a remainer, by the way. So if whoever wins fails to get us out of the EU (and wrecks the Conservative Party by doing that), then that's fine with me.

1tisILeClerc · 13/06/2019 15:13

Of the very small handful of politicians that understand that leaving the EU will destroy the UK Boris is possibly the only one that appears 'electable' who has the nerve to actually say it like it is.
Rory and a couple of others (maybe) understand the need to stay in the EU but would not be able to 'sell' it to 'Leavers'.

bellinisurge · 13/06/2019 15:17

@Coppersulphate , of all of them, he is actually the least worst news for Remain. Because he is the one most likely to change his position and spin some shit to explain why. You are unconvincing in your claim not to be fooled by him.

Coppersulphate · 13/06/2019 15:27

Bellini, I would prefer Nigel Farage because I think he would definitely get us out of the EU.
However, his name is not on the ballot paper.
Second would come Michael Gove.
Next Boris. Not perfect but a) I think he would win an election, and b) he will get us out of the EU.

I don't think he will change things and remain.
I accept that you disagree

The80sweregreat · 13/06/2019 15:30

I can't believe that any remain voters think having Boris Johnson in charge is a good thing ; he knows he needs to carry out leaving the EU surely? 114 ( plus more next week I assume) voting for you to ' deliver' !
It's a good thing he has duel citizenship as he may well be looking at a move to the US within a year as the baying mob really will be unhappy if he revokes or theres another referendum or even another GE leaving the Brexit party to clean up! ( horrible thought)

I feel that Brexit may well be his downfall if he does win this leadership battle.
It would be funny if it wasn't so very serious.
Its all very depressing and will still be rumbling on for years I think.

Peregrina · 13/06/2019 15:35

"at least Boris will get us out of the EU."

That's for the party faithful. He himself will look to see which way the land is lying and change accordingly.

tallertales · 13/06/2019 15:43

Exactly @Topseyt!

Peregrina · 13/06/2019 15:44

I thought he packed in his dual citizenship when the US came after him for some tax?

bellinisurge · 13/06/2019 15:44

@Coppersulphate you preferring Faridge speaks volumes about your judgement.

KennDodd · 13/06/2019 15:44

I wonder what Putin thinks of him? So far, everything's gone brilliantly in the UK over the last four years for Putin.

KennDodd · 13/06/2019 15:46

How about a little poetry for our Farage loving friend?

Fascism: I sometimes fear...
I sometimes fear that
people think that fascism arrives in fancy dress
worn by grotesques and monsters
as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis.

Fascism arrives as your friend.
It will restore your honour,
make you feel proud,
protect your house,
give you a job,
clean up the neighbourhood,
remind you of how great you once were,
clear out the venal and the corrupt,
remove anything you feel is unlike you...

It doesn't walk in saying,
"Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."

tallertales · 13/06/2019 15:50

I would prefer Nigel Farage because I think he would definitely get us out of the EU.
However, his name is not on the ballot paper.

Jesus Christ in a bike. So you would be happy to see an incompetent racist in charge as long as we leave the EU?
