Gripe water was amazing! I can still remember the taste and I’m in my 40s!

Jason118 · 08/06/2019 20:50

It's the cocaine I feel sorry for.Smile

Iambuffy · 08/06/2019 20:51

When my brother was a baby I used to climb up on the enamel bread bin the pantry, climb the 2nd shelf and gulp the stuff.

Amazed my mum never noticed!

1tisILeClerc · 08/06/2019 20:55

Anyone remember Meloids, I think they were called?
Tiny black chewy things to help clear your chest (also handy for blocked drains, destruction of fatbergs and general demolition).

Iambuffy · 08/06/2019 20:57

Co op bronchial mixture is good stuff

jasjas1973 · 08/06/2019 20:59

Possession of a class A drug is upto 7 years prison, unlimited fine.

I just don't get how anyone who wouldn't now be able to get SC clearance (the lowest level rung on the ladder) is somehow deemed fit to be privy to the nations secrets and able to order the use of Trident.

DGRossetti · 08/06/2019 21:09

I think a better question is what the hell are our security services up to if they can miss this sort of past behaviour when vetting people for senior positions.

I'd start asking what and who else have they missed ? (Rossettis infamous "When you've found one mistake, there's no defence against further mistakes. Certain not if you want to make a nuisance of yourself" rule).

Already it seems they missed Stewarts opium outing, and Hunts lassi lapse as well as Leadsoms lung busting Hmm

WTF are we paying these clowns for ? Modelling assignments ?

woman19 · 08/06/2019 21:10

math; it is handy for Rory Stewart. He's on level pegging so far with bj with the public. His very hands on campaigning reminds me of John Major's 1992 'soap box' campaign which suprised everyone with its success.

What is Gripe water? Confused

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2019 21:14

Gripe water is for digestive discomfort in babies.

woman19 · 08/06/2019 21:15

Thanks fluffy!

jasjas1973 · 08/06/2019 21:21

Completely agree on the security services aspect.... i ve had SC for a number of years, its not easy to get, the vetting process takes an age and the questionnaire is extensive, covering all behaviors and susceptibility to blackmail.

I think Goves drug taking is of a completely different magnitude to Hunt and Stewarts, which were one offs and in context of travelling in countries where a tea infusion or a pipe is considered the norm and not against local law?
Gove on the other, repeatedly took coke and has only confessed because a book is about to be published.

He should resign as an MP.

I'd also like to see the Police question him too, he shouldn't be above the law.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/06/2019 21:30

If we have to have a Tory Brexiter PM, Gove is the sanest and the best informed - as far as that goes !

BigChocFrenzy · 08/06/2019 21:34

imo, your body, your choice - the alternative seems overly intrusive

I only get angry at the very different treatment by police, CPS & courts of privileged drug users, compared to ordinary people

but then I do about the different life chances anyway:
health, wealth, career, conspiring to beat up people ......

Violetparis · 08/06/2019 21:34

I think if every MP or anyone else in a powerful position had to resign because of drug use in their youth/early adult life there would hardly be any of them left. I think most people are shrugging their shoulders at it all, and think the police have better things to do than question someone on their drug use 20 years ago.

ContinuityError · 08/06/2019 21:39

jasjas1973 MPs don’t have to undergo security vetting in order to see confidential documents, unlike the rest of us.

I struggled to get my SC as my DH was born in NI (despite leaving at the age of 2).

TheABC · 08/06/2019 21:40

Brexit is truly the gift that keeps on giving. As one of my politically astute friends pointed out, no matter what happens, the Tories will not escape the mess, looking good and the main thing motivating the leadership race is the possibility that their party will be out of power, after this. It may be their only chance to be a PM .

Brexit makes the Lib Dems tuition fees debacle seem like a petty change fight at the sixth form disco.

jasjas1973 · 08/06/2019 21:52

...and think the police have better things to do than question someone on their drug use 20 years ago

We don't know if its 20 years ago or not.

Cocaine is highly addictive and he is attempting to be our PM, so of course he should be questioned and tested for more recent drug taking.

jasjas1973 · 08/06/2019 21:59

I think if every MP or anyone else in a powerful position had to resign because of drug use in their youth/early adult life there would hardly be any of them left

He was in his early 30s repeatedly doing coke, not smoking dope as an 18yo.
fwiw i don't know anyone who admits to taking class A drugs.

yolofish · 08/06/2019 22:02

Brexit makes the Lib Dems tuition fees debacle seem like a petty change fight at the sixth form disco. so bloody true!

It all just seems rather alarmingly quiet to me at the moment - the country is in limbo as the politicians fiddle while Rome burns.

I will never ever forgive them if we crash out with No Deal. I just wish someone would have the courage to Revoke, say ok the 52% wont like it, but we have gone about this all the wrong way. In my dreams eh...

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 08/06/2019 22:03

fwiw i don't know anyone who admits to taking class A drugs

That’s odd. I bet you do know a lot of people who have taken drugs in the past. They probably don’t talk about it because it’s in the past.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2019 22:03

fwiw i don't know anyone who admits to taking class A drugs

Class A and B drugs were very common in my social circle back in the day (mid-late 90s). I'd say many people of my age have taken drugs of some sort.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 08/06/2019 22:06

I think we are a similar age fluffy pretty common in my social circle too.

I’m so pissed off with the Tories. Everything seems to be framed around how can the Tories save their party. Who gives a shit? Can we please start talking about how to get the country out of this god forsaken nightmare.

Violetparis · 08/06/2019 22:07

It was 20 years ago when he wasn't an MP, I am just not that surprised or bothered. If he had been caught doing it last week then I would be more concerned ! Others have a different view which is fair enough. To me, it's a nonsense distraction from the political crisis we are facing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/06/2019 22:10

Lots and lots of rain in the forecast for the next two weeks.

yolofish · 08/06/2019 22:11

About 40 years ago I used to have the odd spliff - never bought it, never sought it out but would, OMG, inhale. Never did anything stronger than that, though I knew people who did. BUT I drink like a fish!

What scares me today is that dope is no longer so innocent; the chemical highs available are so dangerous, and the global picture about coke/heroin etc, inc exploitation.

No one seems to have any kind of a grip on the drugs problem.

adequatefood yup it's all about the Tories. so depressing.
