Westministenders: The Only Election That Matters - The Tory One

Fallout from the Euro Elections makes for interesting reading for the leadership hopefuls.

Its not a clear cut as some make out. There is still a case for a deal. The trouble is passing it through parliament. And there is no time to do that. Nor no will.

Any new leader's priority isn't going to be a deal. Its going to be avoiding a General Election. And thats going to be hard.

We are also realistically facing the prospect of another extension which France is likely to block leading to no deal or no deal.

Or a 2nd Referendum.

A 2nd Referendum might be the only way to avoid a General Election. And that will still have no deal on the ballot. Of that you can be sure.

Peter Foster of the Telegraph remarked this morning that in fact the only way to a deal now, might well be via no deal, because of all the routes we have exhausted through incompetence. And that will come at a very high price.

When I get back into the country, v soon, I'll be tweeting (under my actual name) and telling the Bastards that I ,a card carrying member of the Labour Party since 1972, voted Green. Expelling me if you must, but what are you going to do about the bastard who unilaterally decided not to support Labour Party policy (as decided by the Party itself) to support a confirmatory referendum?

Oh yes, you're going to let him carry on as leader. Fuck you, the party I've faithfully supported all these years. If they cannot understand that Brexit is bigger than party politics, and that it's not ok to let one person decide on Labour Party actual policy, I'll be proud to be expelled.

Rant over

DGRossetti · 28/05/2019 17:29

Do they refund unused membership fees if they expel you ?

If so, what other parties could you join for that amount ?

Not that I would dream of suggesting there may be some free publicity and chances of swelling membership for a rival party. No, not I.

user1471453601 · 28/05/2019 17:39

@DGRosseti, not sure if your question was aimed at me? If it was, I'm pretty sure they don't refund, I only pay the Pensioners rate anyway, so not much.

Joing another party, while I understand the publicity view point, would end up with me being expelled anyway as (once the almighty Cameron inspired mess has been decided one way or the other), id start voting Labour again.

Oh, bollicks, if I was twenty years younger if move to another country

Also on hols in Eurofurrinland.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 28/05/2019 18:01

PMK.

Just binge-watched (if you can binge-watch two episodes) Years & Years. Funny, fast, scary and highly recommended. Emma Thompson is excellent, regardless of your thoughts on her green credentials.

Can't help thinking Theresa is looking a little cheerier today...

Merkel has decided that Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, who took over as leader of the Christian Democratic Union in December, is not up to the country’s top job, according to two officials with knowledge of her thinking. As a result, the chancellor has become more determined than ever to stay in power until her term ends in 2021, the officials said

MaudBaileysGreenTurban Agree, Years and Years is brilliant. I can't think of a poor performance by Emma Thompson. She's great in this one.

lonelyplanetmum · 28/05/2019 18:14

PMK with thanks to Red.

Has the promotional Raab video been dissected and analysed ? Wonder if he had that ready already? He mentions keenness to trade with Mexico and Vietnam. Hmmmm where do they feature on that chart of global trade?

phpolly · 28/05/2019 18:15

.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/05/2019 18:27

What does "PMK" mean please?

WorriedMutha · 28/05/2019 18:34

DGRos - re Labour membership fees, you pay monthly by direct debit so there would be little in the way of unused fees.

1tisILeClerc · 28/05/2019 18:39

{What does "PMK" mean please?}
A MN corruption of placemarking.
There is an abbreviation thread.

BestIsWest · 28/05/2019 18:47

WorredMutha not always, I pay a one off amount every August.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/05/2019 19:02

yolofish · 28/05/2019 19:09

I dont know how you guys do it, but this is my go to place to try and keep up to date. I am still very confused.... mostly by the lack of common sense shown by those who seek govern us.

SuePerbly · 28/05/2019 19:10

@1tisILeClerc I have PMd you :)

SuePerbly · 28/05/2019 19:12

And thanks for the new thread Red Flowers

dreichuplands · 28/05/2019 19:14

I have a reasonable knowledge of trade with Mexico, I wouldn't look to replace EU with them.
They do have decent fresh fruit/ veg but with much higher air miles than EU stuff.
They also have quite a lot of assembly plants, but many of the parts come from within NAFTA. I think this might damage areas like our own car assembly plants even more.
Quality control is a continuous headache as is corruption.

dreichuplands · 28/05/2019 19:15

Organised crime is also a major issue.

RhubarbIsEvil · 28/05/2019 19:25

Thanks red

Jacob Rees Mogg is going to appear on This Morning this week. I take it that they’ve pre-recorded the interview so that we don’t all arrive with our milkshakes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2019 19:25

PMK. Wonder if the Lib Dems will expel me for voting Green during their wilderness years.

RhubarbIsEvil · 28/05/2019 19:26

And drug smuggling. We’d all be finding packets of cocaine in our green beans.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 19:30

Thanks, red Thanks

We may indeed have exhausted all other routes except No Deal, because of govt incompetence - and playing party politics

internal Tory politics being of course why Cameron irresponsibly called the referendum
and even more irresponsibly did so without specifying the form of Leave or any plan how to eave
