Although another round of Indicative Votes is scheduled, arguably the chance for a soft Brexit has gone for two reasons.

Parliament was unable to show a majority because those on the opposition benches were too busy saying 'I want this but only on these terms' or still being too unwilling to compromise. Thus the opportunity and point for a third round starts to look weak.

The second is that Tory MPs were resolute in an opposition to a soft Brexit.

Unless May decides to be the next Robert Peel and go for a soft Brexit on the back of opposition vote its not going to happen.

This leaves May's deal as it stands or no deal.

May seems to have actually lost a few supporters of her deal since Friday, and given the performance of the opposition tonight and the prospect of round 3 of indicative votes they will still be unwilling to go for May's deal.

Which leaves no deal.

There is talk of a managed no deal. There is no such thing. The EU plan for that is essentially to push us into the deal in order to get a trading relationship.

And that will push us closer to the us. Which is what many torys want. And what polling seems to suggest they will have surprising support for.

Sorry folks but it don't look great tonight.

The opposition benches may look back on tonight and think they screwed it. I hope I'm wrong. But I fear tonight might have sealed our fate.

Tomorrow may has a 5hr cabinet. And a secret document dmfor the cabinet to study first.

It's going to get bumpy from here on in...

tobee · 01/04/2019 23:09

Thanks again Red.

The rich will be fine with no deal. And JRM and his insider pals will make a killing. You know like the kind of f%#ing c%#ts who had "a good war".

Random18 · 01/04/2019 23:09

Cabinet need to make a stand now. It is now up to them, especially the non extremists.

When is her next vote? We cannot vote through her WA if it will be a Brexiteer who takes it forward.

That will end up a disaster in 20 months time. If we are going to no deal it needs to be now. It has got to stop.

The right thing is to revoke - she will not do that.

PV - I don’t think she will do that either.

She will go for a GE over that.

Labour need to bring Govt down - will they get the votes?

Lavish placemark in celebration of hitting a new Wesrmtnisterenders thread on page 1! Usually it’s 20+ pages.

Alicejacks · 01/04/2019 23:10

God, it is bleak. Thanks Red for the amaxing commentary... been lurking from the start, always too aghast to find anything coherent to add. Hearing the bells tolling loud and clear nowSad

Triglesoffy · 01/04/2019 23:11

What the heck are we supposed to do??

NoWordForFluffy · 01/04/2019 23:11

PMK.

Thanks, Red. I'm rather scared right now. Fucking self serving twats.

horseshit · 01/04/2019 23:11

Would May call a GE without a long extension? And even if she tried, would she even get EP elections through?

boatyardblues · 01/04/2019 23:12

Although there’s nothing else to be celebrating about. Sad

tobee · 01/04/2019 23:12

So my MP voted for Clarke and for Boles and abstained the other two. Think he voted against everything last time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh god. It’s got to go to a people’s vote, surely.

RedToothBrush · 01/04/2019 23:12

Kate McCann @kateemccann
Tonight I have seen Labour MPs openly rowing with each other, frustrated that colleagues are refusing to shift their Brexit position. I’ve seen Conservatives arguing with each other about whether an election is the only answer. Both parties deeply divided.

I’ve had MPs of all sides saying they’re “holding out” in the hope their preferred option will emerge as the last minute fallback. The UK leaves the EU in 11 days unless an extension is requested or another option is agreed.

So what happens now? Government sources hinted that a so-called softer Brexit option would focus minds of those in the ERG voting against PM’s deal. That isn’t an option (or not tonight anyway).

Others are calling for the PM to put her deal to the people. Doesn’t look like a likely option right now. PM’s team clear they want to bring her deal back (if they think they can win) but what changes minds now?

A show down of deal or no deal on the 9th, followed by a last minute show down of revoke v no deal on the 12th?

It ain't looking great at all.

PMK. Can't thank you enough for keeping going Red. Whipping may be awful but look at the alternative.

gnomeisland · 01/04/2019 23:14

God what a total pile of shite.

Namenic · 01/04/2019 23:14

Yes/no format is the problem.

AV voting solves this. No more games. 1 off shot. Do it as a referendum or parliamentary vote.

nuttynutjob · 01/04/2019 23:15

PMK

No deal is still the default.

I suppose it's interesting that labour are finally ahead in the polls. I wonder how that will sway her re: an election.
But then maybe she wants labour to take over - maybe she wants to wash her hands of the whole thing and leave them carrying the can.
If we have a coupon GE on brexit - and get another hung parliament (which we will) wtf will that mean going forward?

Are the next IVs meant to be on Weds? Maybe the best to hope for is a quiet tomorrow - an IV that actually delivers something (anything) on Weds and then see where we are on Thursday. Feeling pretty grim right now.

Thanks Red
