Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

Odds shortening on No to WA - now at 2/9.

Littlespaces · 29/03/2019 10:36

And I am in the free lands of Wessex.

Peregrina · 29/03/2019 10:37

I had a Scottish maiden name. Would I be able to claim honorary citizenship? Otherwise, I hope the free lands of Wessex stretch to Oxfordshire.

Littlespaces · 29/03/2019 10:37

Odds shortening on No to WA - now at 2/9.

Could you translate what this means?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 29/03/2019 10:41

Ive got a bad fucking feeling that its going to pass today, oh well wont take the DWP long to kill me off in that case

Littlespaces · 29/03/2019 10:42

I can't see how it will pass if the DUP & hardline ERG have already said they won't back it.

MockerstheFeManist · 29/03/2019 10:43

Someone at Beeb Towers has a sense of humour.

The Big Brexit Night News Special has been cancelled and replaced with a screening of Sliding Doors, a film about how a binary choice leads to two very different alternative futures.

SusanWalker · 29/03/2019 10:43

I have my own dilemma today. Watch the shenanigans whilst knitting and make real progress on DDs sleeve.

Or have the shenanigans on whilst spring cleaning the living room and sugar soaping the walls ready for decorating.

DadDadDad · 29/03/2019 10:44

Actually, I was listening to the start of Melvyn Bragg's programme on R4 yesterday, talking about the Danelaw, where England was split in two, with different laws etc operating on each side. We could choose a line, move all Leavers to one side, Remainers to the other with that area staying in the EU. London might have to have a special enclave for Leavers. Confused

FaFoutis · 29/03/2019 10:45

I'd go for the cleaning Susan, get rid of the nervous energy.

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 29/03/2019 10:45

I'd really consider moving to Scotland though I do have a deep feeling that you should change a negative situation from the inside. It's what took me until February to leave the Labour party.

I hope Labour Leavers have listened to Hilary Benn this morning. Labour is absolutely where the danger is - pass this, drift past the 12th, fail to pass the meaningful vote formally = No Deal on the 22nd May with no possibility of extension and not enough votes for revoke.

lonelyplanetmum · 29/03/2019 10:47

out that a backroom deal was done at Chequers, hence BoJo and Mogg

Yes exactly what did happen at Chequers. They looked smirky.

pepinana · 29/03/2019 10:48

I would avoid public transport, personally.

Impossible, I'm not walking from Lewisham to Hackney 😔

DadDadDad · 29/03/2019 10:49

@Littlespaces - short odds mean the bookmakers believe that option (ie WA voted down) is very likely to happen, so they offer a very low return: if you bet £9, and that option occurs, you will win only £2 (plus you get your £9 back).

ShowerOfBrexshit · 29/03/2019 10:49

Just spoke to my coal merchants wife to order coal. I asked her if Brexit and especially a no deal would affect supplies / prices. She has no idea but she's worried about it. She said some of what they get comes from the north east so hopefully supply would be fine there. But she said the nuggets for stoves which is what I get comes from Columbia by container. It arrives into NI and is then transported from there. She thought it would be a good idea to stockpile some in the next few days if no deal begins to look even more likely.

She also said that brexit has caused big divisions in their household. She is a remainer and her husband voted leave. She said it's caused various arguments Sad

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 10:50

The SNP leader has said that Scotland will leave.
Right verbal fisticuffs between Scottish Labour mps and SNPs

FedUpOfBrexit · 29/03/2019 10:50

If Mays deal goes through you can guarantee the Tories in the House of Commons will be cheering and congratulating themselves as the saviours to Brexit

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 10:50

I think John Bercow is great!

SusanWalker · 29/03/2019 10:51

Yes exactly what did happen at Chequers. They looked smirky

Exactly. If I were a labour MP I wouldn't vote for the deal on the principle that whatever made them smirk and swing round is unlikely to be good. Well unless you're a well off Tory.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 10:51

If Brexit goes through, it’s going to be the end of the United Kingdom

FaFoutis · 29/03/2019 10:52

My forehead is all scrunched up watching this. I look like Terry Waite.

1tisILeClerc · 29/03/2019 10:52

{Someone at Beeb Towers has a sense of humour.

Nah, it should have been the 'Magic Roundabout'. It has most of the right characters and to top it off was originally written by a Frenchman.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 10:52

Will be England full of a Little England’s outnumbering Remainers

prettybird · 29/03/2019 10:53

I don't agree with what Mervyn King was saying because, as DadDadDad has succinctly said, an extra 6 months will not give us the billions let along enough time to set up these fantastical new industries which will have the world beating a door to the UK to benefit from its unique offering Confused

However Blush I do partially get where he's coming from, when he says the whole debate is - indeed should be - about the feelz rather than just about the economics.

But it needs to be an informed debate Confused. People need to know and accept that it will result in cost and pain, and that that pain will. Affect. Them. Not other people Confused Them Hmm

Scottish independence may well involve some initial pain as new institutions are set up (like a Central Bank Wink). It will involve more pain that it needed to, if FUKD is out of the EU and a hard border is required between Scotland (even if it's only in EFTA initially) and England (unless of course the mythological technological solution is invented that is going to solve the border issues in the island of Ireland Wink), but given the abyss that FUKD's economy will fall into in a No Deal scenario, it may be less pain than England would suffer. And at least with light at the end of the tunnel.

Iirc, the (WM) Government's assessment during the Indyref campaign was the Independence would cost Scottish households £2,000 - but the press conveniently omitted that it was a cumulative total over 20 years (might have been £3,000). Shock (it was of course disputed by the Yes Campaign Wink)

Plus there was the point that there were savings to be made that weren't included, nor any sharing/distribution of shared assets (eg Trident Wink)

The analysis from the Government now of its own plans and the different Brexit scenarios is of a cost of many, many more times that ShockSad

Theresa May is fucking laughing. Has she no sense?

When people trot out the "oh poor Theresa I feel so terribly sorry for her, she's tried so hard" line, we should refer them to the footage of her sitting in parliament laughing at the fucking disaster she's created.
