If anyone says they know what will happen this week....

... They don't.

Oh yes, I guess! And they've already drafted it - it'll be a cut and paste job just changing the date each time.

wherearemychickens · 25/03/2019 20:51

I spent £20 on Aldi chocolate the other day for the stockpile.

dreichuplands · 25/03/2019 20:51

My DH has two passports as well, stamps and work visas bring complications with them.
Montenegro is beautiful and full of wealthy Russians with cruise ships running them a close second.

Probablyjustgossipbut · 25/03/2019 20:54

Brief name change for a question. Would an MP be allowed to bet on a No Deal?

tobee · 25/03/2019 20:54

Yes I was just looking up the current president dreich. He looks a bit dodgy.

woodpigeons · 25/03/2019 20:54

James fucking Cartlidge is making me scream at the TV.
He’s either particularly stupid or a liar.
Talking about immigration. Saying we’ll be able to control EU immigration after Brexit when we always had the option to do so, just like we control immigration from other countries, and didn’t take it up.
What does he think those countries outside the EU we are going to do amazing trade deals with will want in return. Yes visas, visas, lots of lovely visas.
That’s always been a flaw in the leavers’ argument for Brexit as the immigrants they talk about are nasty brown and black skinned people who come from countries outside the EU.
I really hope if we Brexit, France merrily waves all the asylum seekers through. Two good deeds in one. Piss off the racists and help the poor asylum seekers who are nearly all lovely, genuine people.
Then on to why overseas students from places like China and India are included in immigration figures when they only have temporary student visas. Apparently it’s because they might decide to stay after finishing their courses.
I used to work with overseas students. They get a student visa for the length of their course, possibly an extra year at the end.
If they stay any longer they are illegal immigrants.
Why would these students, who come from families rich enough to pay for them to study at UK universities, decide the life of an illegal immigrant would be a good idea.
We did have the odd one who dropped out of the course and this was reported to the home office. Every university which wants to take overseas students, which massively increase their revenue, is obliged to do this.
We are ruled by a load of self serving liars and fools.
I feel like arranging an invasion of the HOC by people from this thread who all know a lot more than they do.

QueenOfThorns · 25/03/2019 20:55

Some fine speeches Chevvy Lisa Nandy was just excellent.

Yes, she seems very useful - I was impressed that she’d been to talk to a pharmacist. However, she said that two-thirds of her constituency voted to leave and that they knew what they were voting for. How does she know that? Particularly because all this time later, still no one can agree on what kind of Brexit they want.

ContinuityError · 25/03/2019 20:55

dreichuplands for DH it’s more about having a non UK passport in case insurgents show up.

tobee · 25/03/2019 20:55

Strike that. He looks well dodgy with mystery millions.

borntobequiet · 25/03/2019 20:59

Once upon a time, there was the British Visitor’s Passport.

Littlespaces · 25/03/2019 21:03

A delegation of eight Remain ministers just emerged from Theresa May’s Commons office and were reassured by what they heard

If they don't resign I will lose hope for this country.

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 25/03/2019 21:03

born oooh I had one of those for a French exchange visit!

Loletta · 25/03/2019 21:04

Latest from Peston. Nail biting

BREAKING 1) @oletwinofficial telling supporters he's anxious that in the end he may not have the votes for his parliament-takes-control-of-Brexit motion. 2) Remainy ministers contemplating now whether they have to resign tonight to get his motion over the line. 3) @theresa_may...
was warned tonight by Gaukward squad of ministers - Gauke, Rudd, Clark, Mundell, etc - there could be 30 ministerial resignations on Wednesday if free vote on indicative votes not allowed (subject to Letwin motion passing or @SteveBarclay promising...
government-sponsored version of indicative votes when he winds up debate in an hour). It is all still very messy

dreichuplands · 25/03/2019 21:04

Ahh continuity DH just has to play match the passport to the stamp, some countries really don't like each other.

dreichuplands · 25/03/2019 21:07

born I had one as a teenager on my first trip abroad as a teenager, a student exchange thing to Germany. It was super flimsy. Maybe suitable for present times?

67chevvyimpala · 25/03/2019 21:10

I remember those!

I had 2...both for school trips to France and Germany.

ContinuityError · 25/03/2019 21:12

dreichuplands one of my colleagues had separate UK passports for the visa problem - unfortunately for him security services knew just who he was and gave him a hard time anyway.

tobee · 25/03/2019 21:14

I had one (or more) of those passports too. For school trips. In those days my mum and dad shared a passport, and my sister and I were included (as children). There were no photos of children necessary. Seems astonishing now.

PestyMachtubernahme · 25/03/2019 21:14

Just spent an hour sitting with friends watching four jets practice dogfighting over Salisbury Plain.
Who are we invading next month?
It really was impressive

BiglyBadgers · 25/03/2019 21:16

We have found a Brexit Benefit there is reasonable support and enthusiasm for amongst us, we are thinking of MPs naked and reflecting on the commonality of the KKK, Illuminati and the ERG.

I'll have you know we have also declared independence and founded the United Lands of Wessex and Scotland. Long may it's parliamentary caravan govern in peace and prosperity.

67chevvyimpala · 25/03/2019 21:16

Yeah. We were all on my dads passport as kids.

All 3 of us.

BercowsSilkTie · 25/03/2019 21:16

Jessica elgot@jessicaelgot
Excellent moment outside the ERG meeting, one MP said it was "50-50" in the room on support for PM's deal. Asked if he agreed, another MP paused and said: "I think it's more the other way, actually."*

And in a completely unrelated tweet

Jess Phillips @ jessphillips*
We are being ruled by idiots who only speak to other idiots and so don't know they are idiots.

It's like Carry On Brexit

I feel very left out as I do not have a current passport as can't afford one and never go anywhere. My old passport is a red one with an old USA visa in it. I was most disappointed when I went to Mallorca as an adult not to get any stamps. I used to love looking at the ones in my mum and dad's old passports. My dad's old blue one is still at mum's. Of course as a child I travelled on my parent's passport or however they did it then.

QueenOfThorns · 25/03/2019 21:18

I've just raided our chocolate stockpile again

That’s how it should be - you need to keep eating the stockpile and then replacing it. Otherwise everything will go out of date. This is what I keep telling myself, anyway!

I spent £20 on Aldi chocolate the other day for the stockpile.

That sounds like a good stockpile Grin

MockerstheFeManist · 25/03/2019 21:18

Once we are out, the Dublin Convention will no longer apply and the French will happily lay on ferries to clear the Jungle.

BiglyBadgers · 25/03/2019 21:20

We are being ruled by idiots who only speak to other idiots and so don't know they are idiots.

I think this pretty much sums up the whole sorry mess
