The site has crashed due to traffic volumes due to this petition.

I tried to sign it and got a "bad gateway" error message. I'm a British citizen but live in another EU country... (Joint citizenship but entitled to sign). Was wondering whether my location was the reason but maybe the entire thing is down if 30 million people are trying to sign it...

Stinkytoe · 21/03/2019 10:33

I’ve signed it, took a fair few refreshes to get it to go through but it’s done 👍🏻

Wenttoseainasieve · 21/03/2019 10:34

I think there is genuinely huge interest in the petition, it's the number 1 trending now on twitter, for example

VeronicaDinner · 21/03/2019 10:34

I've signed

VeronicaDinner · 21/03/2019 10:34

Had no trouble.

TrixieFranklin · 21/03/2019 10:37

It won't let me sign, when I click to confirm my email it says bad gateway.

PenguinBlizzard · 21/03/2019 10:37

Not sure if anyone has already said this but it you get 'bad gateway' keep refreshing until it works, takes 3-4 attempts, rather than pressing back etc worked for me.

TrixieFranklin · 21/03/2019 10:38

@PenguinBlizzard your advise worked thank you

IceRebel · 21/03/2019 10:38

I agree, it's all over social media and starting to filter onto new sites. Although i'm sure there are a few who will be trying to up the numbers via unsavory methods, I really think most of the people signing are genuine.

winsinbin · 21/03/2019 10:39

I agree that the area pattern of looting in this looks very authentic.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 21/03/2019 10:39

Bad gateway.

winsinbin · 21/03/2019 10:39

Voting not looting.

downcasteyes · 21/03/2019 10:40

Somehow, the "Bad Gateway" error feels like a fitting symbol of politics right now.

This made me laugh. Grin

PerkingFaintly · 21/03/2019 10:41

Oh I haven't looked at the evidence for this particular petition at all. AlaskaSometimes has said she has, but hey, she could be a troll too!

I've signed the petition myself. But it's an online petition, it can be gamed.

Excuse if I just copy what I wrote on another thread as it's relevant (italics where I was quoting PPs):
--------------

Whoever created the bot is an idiot.

Or wants to discredit the petition. Or wants to give the impression there's a much larger majority in favour of revoking.

Or, win-win for a disruptivist: both.

idiots on 4chan about who can get the most votes on the petition for a joke.

The people who seeded this idea may not be idiots. They may have had a fair idea what they were doing.

This is what the disinformation world looks like. I expect to see a lot more of it in the next few weeks as disrupters make hay in this fraught situation, and bots/trolls get repurposed to turn up the heat in the UK.

(If anyone has the brain space left to cope with this at the moment, here's an illuminating report on recent Russian disinformation techniques. Of course the Russians aren't the only ones at it. securingdemocracy.gmfus.org/a-view-from-the-digital-trenches-lessons-from-year-one-of-hamilton-68/ )

No I don't have any answer for this.Sad Other don't believe all you read, and always look before you leap.

We're looting now? Jolly good! must dash off - see if I can loot a new telly from John Lewis Grin

Blinkingblimey · 21/03/2019 10:43

I think the voting is real - even my normally politically passive mother has signed. To be honest I think leavers should be signing too - May’s deal = crock of shit and No Deal = crock of shit. Much better to take a step back, re-evaluate and then decide which direction to take the Country in rather than just drive it off a cliff.

downcasteyes · 21/03/2019 10:44

4chan and 8chan absolutely have an interest in derailing this - they are populist, alt righters. Those websites are utterly evil places. I hope Jim Watkins, the guy who bankrolls 8chan, gets anthrax from his pigs.

AutumnCrow · 21/03/2019 10:44

This is odd. The petition had 696,212 signatures.

I refreshed and it had 696,209.

PerkingFaintly · 21/03/2019 10:45

I should repeat, I'm not suggesting people don't sign!

Hushabyelullaby · 21/03/2019 10:46

I've been trying to vote for the last half an hour, it's now at 696,209. Nothing has moved in the time I've been so I'm guessing it's totally down or it has stalled (unlikely from what I hear)

Mammajay · 21/03/2019 10:47

Bad gateway at10.45

Thisisanoutrage · 21/03/2019 10:47

Signed and shared on Facebook

Okki · 21/03/2019 10:48

We've just had bad gateway - refreshed 3 times and we could then sign.
