From the Petitions committee

Revoke A50 petition fastest growing of all time....
Imnotswallowingthat · 22/03/2019 13:20

The hexmap of where the petition has most signatories shows that it is the Greater London area which has driven it, outside of London there are only a couple of small pockets with high signatory rates....

Table of numbers by constituency here

CordeliaEarhart · 22/03/2019 13:33

As of Friday morning, it seems that the constituency totals are no longer being updated at the source

From the hexmap link. So the data for the map is now already a bit out of date.

Also, when you click on signatures(%) that gives a more useful picture because it isn't distorted by the fact that London has a huge share of the total population. Besides which, it is hardly surprising that something like this spreads quicker in cities.

GiantKitten · 22/03/2019 13:34

More than a couple! Of the top 20, 7 are outside London (& Bristol West is right at the top)

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/03/2019 13:40

'Well, we already know that 17 million people didn't want to leave the EU. So what's new?'

Theresa May didn't seem to have heard, judging by her speech the other night...

Notwotuknow · 22/03/2019 13:52

Has anyone noticed that a lot of the areas with only a low number of votes are in the North, and are often the more deprived areas, ie, the areas that the government seem to ignore on a daily basis?

prettybird · 22/03/2019 14:17

There are high signing rates in inner city Glasgow - hardly "non" deprived areas Confused

But there again, we did vote 70% Remain Wink

Frazzled2207 · 22/03/2019 14:18

Wow 3.2 million.
I think the most popular petition ever on this site (which was another remain one) was 4 point something million.

It will surpass that soon.

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 14:25

Unexpectedly, my constituency is on there with over 1500 votes.

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 14:27

Correction, around 1200 signatures. Not votes, obviously Blush

Verynice · 22/03/2019 14:28

I'm on the cusp of two constituencies. To my left, is a pretty rough area of east London. To my right is a pretty affluent area (predominately white middle class). One constituency has twice as many votes as the other. I was surprised at which one voted double the amount.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 22/03/2019 14:30

Are there regional marches tomorrow? Travel isn’t an option for us but a few hours is doable.

Thesearmsofmine · 22/03/2019 14:31

Mine is very low down on the table. It doesn’t surprise me, we are in a deprived town in Yorkshire and the local feeling is very much to leave(not mine I voted remain and have signed) and plenty want to leave with no deals

Verynice · 22/03/2019 14:31

The only thing I can think of to explain the disparity is that one MP is very active on the local Facebook pages - interacting with the constituents daily, giving updates from the Met etc. The other fella, whose constituency I am in, is never heard from - in fact I didn't know until very recently that he is my MP.

TheWaiting · 22/03/2019 14:35

My teenage sons (14&15) have signed. Perfectly articulate and able to make their own mind up.

To me, their voice needs to be heard over and above those such as my 75yr old father in law who thinks leaving will somehow transport us back to 1956 when the summers were long and men were men. Hmm

Abra1de · 22/03/2019 14:36

Your sons should not be voting. You are undermining the petition.

Pluginwall · 22/03/2019 14:36

I voted remain, but there was a 60%+ vote to leave in the constituency - only 1500 have signed the petition Sad

Noextremes2017 · 22/03/2019 14:37

Yeah - deprived areas are happy to leave with no deal.
I always remember some guy in Sunderland being interviewed on the day after the referendum. He was dead happy because he genuinely thought that leaving meant 'all the factories that shut down will come back'.
For some people it is all just about turning back time. Like the rest of the world is in 2019 but they seem to think the UK can operate in 1965.
Absolutely effing unbelievable...……….

Noextremes2017 · 22/03/2019 14:38

Oh yeah - or even 1956 TheWaiting.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 22/03/2019 14:38

In my view they are exactly the age group who should be signing as they are the ones most likely to be adversely affected.

TheWaiting · 22/03/2019 14:40

I don’t think they are at all. There are no rules saying under 18s must not sign the petition. Personally, I don’t think young children should sign but teenagers absolutely should if they feel strongly enough. This is their future at stake. They are perfectly able to make up their own mind on the matter.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/03/2019 14:41

Pluginwall, the constituency totals haven't been updated for a while - mine has been stuck since early yesterday evening. It says 1500 but is probably twice that going by the overall increase.
Similarly it was a strong Brexit area.

Noextremes2017 · 22/03/2019 14:43

But don't worry - that great trade deal genius Dr Liam Fox will save us all.

Not that he knows anything about business and trade (he doesn't) - but he is a qualified medical doctor so he can step in and save us when we decide we can't take any more ………

How did May ever appoint an idiot like that to such a role? Oh yeah of course - because she is an idiot too and could relate to his incompetence.
