gottagetup you'd think they'd include NI on the map given our new found significance in this whole shit storm!!

SoloD · 21/03/2019 10:10

@Illeatmyhat I would be very surprised if there is not software to stop that happening, certainly there is the software available and the postcode check and email validation works to stop bots.

And who would be behind a bot army any way. Unlike Leave, remain has no Russian sponsors.

Sorry wannabe I’d selected England to zoom in on my constituency, didn’t realise the link would do the same.

This should be the whole of the UK.

wannabebetter · 21/03/2019 10:12

Sorry ignore me - NI is on the map, but when zoomed in it appears to be just to the right of Liverpool!!

Iamsodoingthis · 21/03/2019 10:12

There's a link on the petition site which allows you to see the result on a UK wide map including NI

brizzlemint · 21/03/2019 10:14

I'm glad to see that my constituency has one of the highest rates for signing it.

crumpet · 21/03/2019 10:16

Not far off 690k now

Okki · 21/03/2019 10:19

692,163 now

GottaGetUp · 21/03/2019 10:20

It’s 1000 every 10 seconds now...

SoloD · 21/03/2019 10:20

I think a great start for the #putittothepeople march.

Huge thank you for all those going and supporting the march.

Signed, now 693+

AlaskaSometimes · 21/03/2019 10:21

@solod There’s a bunch of guys in a hacking discord sharing results from their botting. They’re seeing who can get the most votes. It’s why it keeps crashing. They’re doing it for the ‘lulz’ and aren’t even in the UK. it’s ridiculously easy to game an online petition.

downcasteyes · 21/03/2019 10:21

It's a long way to 18 million, but signed!

StormTreader · 21/03/2019 10:22

Just 4k off 700k now.

Hairyhat · 21/03/2019 10:22

I've signed 🤞

teta · 21/03/2019 10:22

Done.

MrsRhubarb · 21/03/2019 10:23

I signed last night when it was only 105,000. Love seeing how much support it's getting. Those of you struggling, please keep checking back to try and sign.

Wheresthebeach · 21/03/2019 10:24

Now BBC reporting that site down due to high traffic!

PerkingFaintly · 21/03/2019 10:27

Russia sponsors disruption and turns up the gas on divisive issues of any kind. The whole Brexit shitshow is jam for them. Russia's also not the only player in town.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if there was bot interference in the petition.

I'm not saying don't sign it. I'm just saying don't invest too much in the numbers being real.

SoloD · 21/03/2019 10:28

@AlaskaSometimes

Yes you can game it, I mean you have to set up software to create a new email address for each time you sign it, not impossible but the free emails providers tend to not like that and close you down.

Also it is easy to spot, I mean you can use a VPN to another server but how many servers can you control? Even if you have 100's (which would take a lot of resources) then each IP will be sening 1000's of requests to the website which is very easy to spot and to block.

But happy to see where they people hang out if you care to share? Unless of course you are making that bit up?

I think they are real.

Every online facebook and twitter site I go on has a link to the petition and real people are furious. It is on national news now.

QueenOfTheCroneAge · 21/03/2019 10:29

@AlaskaSometimes

Yes, the petition is being abused by botting and therefore meaningless.

Clavinova · 21/03/2019 10:30

They don't need bots - 3.7 million EU citizens resident in the UK can sign the petition - who may not be eligible to vote in a second referendum.

lonelyplanetmum · 21/03/2019 10:31

The genuine petition is growing faster than the anti Trump visit one. It's authentic growth pattern is in Remain areas.

Sign it anyway- there's nothing to lose. Even if there were some interference it's the overall numbers that count.

Any Russian gov interference is very unlikely as they want us to leave the trading bloc.

SoloD · 21/03/2019 10:31

@PerkingFaintly

So what you are saying is that you have no evidence, or proof of interference? I am understanding that right?

The fact that hundreds of thousands care enough to go to London to protest again Brexit suggests to me that 700k signing an online petition could well be real.
