Theresa May has asked for a short extension until 30th June, after Cabinet Brexiteers stopped her asking for a longer extension.

She has not stated the purpose of the extension beyond 'to pass her deal'. Which does not have a majority, because if it did May would be overturn the standing order Bercow invoked to block MVIII.

The EU have not reacted well to the request. Noises from France sound negative.

That doesn't mean we won't get one, but its not looking good. If we do it looks unlikely to go beyond May 23rd and EU elections.

We do not expect a response from the EU until Monday.

May has therefore in practice reinstated the possibility of no deal next Friday. Or at the end of any extension we do get.

She is due to give a speech on a podum at 6pm tonight.

Parliament has called an emergency debate on the extension to try and take control of debate. It, so far, looks like no more that the Brexit Secretary filibusting. Its going round and round in circles going no where.

Meanwhile rumours that Operation Yellowhammer will kick in on Monday are in the air. That's the first steps to martial law to manage no deal. This is very bad.

9 days to go.

user are they reassuring plans or as above mass graves kind of plans?

StripeyChina · 20/03/2019 17:58

i guess plans are better than no plans but the money that has been wasted on this makes me feel ill.
I've just had my 'lifetime award' of DLA halved under PIP.
My kids schools don't have books and pencils.
They are shutting the libraries, cancelling operations, reducing respite.
Sorry.
Rant over.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/03/2019 17:58

She can't just hand over to anyone. Due process has to take place if she resigns and they have to follow their own leadership process.

HazardGhost · 20/03/2019 18:01

stripey pip is a bastard sorry Flowers if its relevant to you we found the esa process better and the conclusion was accurate.

OublietteBravo · 20/03/2019 18:03

I’ve been offline since lunchtime. What did I miss?

67chevvyimpala · 20/03/2019 18:04

Leadsom would get it by default.

Not sure the others are stupid enough to take it on.

1tisILeClerc · 20/03/2019 18:05

Ip, Dip, sky, blue, who's it, not you.
17* rounds of that and surely the UK will have a new leader?

*18 went in to see TM?

OutwithMyRemit · 20/03/2019 18:06

I've just looked at the news channels & BBC Parliment thinking TM was meant to be doing a speech at 6pm as set out in the OP. Has that been cancelled/postponed?

Belindabelle · 20/03/2019 18:08

She is meeting with the leaders of the other parties at the moment. Speech later on this evening I think.

Songsofexperience · 20/03/2019 18:09

I usually cope well with all kinds of stresses but I've noticed I've just broken out in hives. Not joking.

Songsofexperience · 20/03/2019 18:10

Maybe it's my new shower gel, or maybe it's May...

User76765 · 20/03/2019 18:11

Not mass graves. Steps necessary to keep the bare essentials running.

Littlespaces · 20/03/2019 18:11

The only time May gets my vote

(hives).

1tisILeClerc · 20/03/2019 18:16

You could always change back to your old username, or go to yet another and 'speculate'.

Belindabelle · 20/03/2019 18:16

Speech at 8pm.

OutwithMyRemit · 20/03/2019 18:16

Thanks Belindabelle

1tisILeClerc · 20/03/2019 18:18

{Speech at 8pm.}
Oh good. With 'disasterchef' in charge in the kitchen tonight my tea might nearly be ready by then!

fuckmayfuckthetoriesfuckbrexit · 20/03/2019 18:21

@User76765 what is the point of your post? Either give details or stop trying to fuel anxiety.

SusanWalker · 20/03/2019 18:21

Bare essentials....

No sunny uplands, just bare essentials. I'm properly scared. DS asd and depression makes him tricky to handle at times. I have strategies but they depend on electricity and the ability to buy food he will eat. Not to mention being able to take him out for a walk, even at 8 or 9pm. If he tries to kill himself the agreed action is to call an ambulance. They just changed his meds and I only have two weeks worth. I am properly scared.

PestyMachtubernahme · 20/03/2019 18:26

So who will May blame, whilst assuring us that her deal is fantastic?

The Speaker, no doubt
All the naughty MPs who did not vote for her deal.
then
A bit about the will of the people, blah, blah

Everyone hates her deal, which probably means it is about right. Detangling from the EU is going to be a long and painful process. No Deal is a monumental act of self harm.

67chevvyimpala · 20/03/2019 18:27

susan :(

I'm seriously considering telling my mum to stay put (in Ireland)

PestyMachtubernahme · 20/03/2019 18:29

Susan one of mine went through that in their mid teens, it did get better (eventually). Flowers look after yourself and stay strong.

pepinana · 20/03/2019 18:29

Have downing st confirmed a statement is coming?

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2019 18:33

8pm speech. Not 6pm.

My mistake.
