Theresa May has asked for a short extension until 30th June, after Cabinet Brexiteers stopped her asking for a longer extension.

She has not stated the purpose of the extension beyond 'to pass her deal'. Which does not have a majority, because if it did May would be overturn the standing order Bercow invoked to block MVIII.

The EU have not reacted well to the request. Noises from France sound negative.

That doesn't mean we won't get one, but its not looking good. If we do it looks unlikely to go beyond May 23rd and EU elections.

We do not expect a response from the EU until Monday.

May has therefore in practice reinstated the possibility of no deal next Friday. Or at the end of any extension we do get.

She is due to give a speech on a podum at 6pm tonight.

Parliament has called an emergency debate on the extension to try and take control of debate. It, so far, looks like no more that the Brexit Secretary filibusting. Its going round and round in circles going no where.

Meanwhile rumours that Operation Yellowhammer will kick in on Monday are in the air. That's the first steps to martial law to manage no deal. This is very bad.

9 days to go.

Susan Flowers for you.

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 20/03/2019 18:34

susan Flowers I can only begin to imagine how you are feeling. I’m so angry that this wretched situation has made things worse for you.

GroovieGazelloo · 20/03/2019 18:35

Thanks Red. Does anyone know if the speech will be given in parliament or elsewhere ?

IrenetheQuaint · 20/03/2019 18:35

Simultaneously laughing at User's vague posts and feeling a stab of sympathy... hundreds of thousands of people must be in his/her position, seeing grim plans but being unable to share them. I'm surprised more hasn't leaked tbh.

Is May slowly indicating that her second preference to her deal is No Deal, rather than long delay or No Brexit? If so, the ball is in Labour’s court rather than ERG’s. 1/3

If so, and May’s Deal comes back to the Commons next week, and May say’s back this or its No Deal, then ERG MPs will surely opposite it and say “bring on No Deal” 2/3

But, knowing this, Labour MPs will then have a choice: back May’s Deal or accept No Deal. I have no idea which way Lab MPs will go if that is the choice. I suspect many might abstain, hoping something else might come up, and not wanting to be blamed for either outcome 3/3

The Strasbourg Package, what she agreed last week. The EU are expected to ratify at the end of this week. Does she think this counts as substantially different?

User76765 · 20/03/2019 18:38

@User76765 what is the point of your post? Either give details or stop trying to fuel anxiety.

OK I'll just fuck off and leave. I'm a regular on the thread and the board but hey ho Hmm

name changing back and won't comment further.

Btw I know she can't just hand over really but ....

DGRossetti · 20/03/2019 18:39

Perhaps the BBC was ahead of us all the time, with their placement of headlines ... apologies for dark humour.

I dont understand how the WA can be voted for again next week??

John bercrow said unless it changes you can't vote on same thing again.
Has there been any changes?

Efferlunt · 20/03/2019 18:40

Why do they keep doing things they know the EU are going to say no to ffs!? What’s the bloody point?

I thought there was some hopeful moves this week but she’s bloody flunked it again. I’m so angry that it’s come to this. I want my country back.

Peregrina · 20/03/2019 18:41

Just catching up with this thread. Can't bear to watch the TV!
Who knows how the public will respond whether we have no deal or May's deal, or by some miracle, revoke?

I hope we have a good turn out for Saturday, and if Farridge's march that he's not on, is anything to go by, Remainers now feel more strongly than Leavers.

OutwithMyRemit · 20/03/2019 18:41

pepinana the Guardian are saying a speech from JC in about an hour and one from TM at 8pm, they haven't confirmed the location of hers. I think it's significant where she does it and therefore if she's addressing the HoC or "the people".

tobee · 20/03/2019 18:42

Watching the Sex and Health Regulations 2019 on bbc parliament. Always have an educational thing to listen to while cooking dinner. I'm addicted.

tobee · 20/03/2019 18:43

I thought she was definitely "addressing the nation". If anything

Belindabelle · 20/03/2019 18:44

May’s speech due to take place outside Downing Street I thought.

RussellSprout · 20/03/2019 18:45

Have i got this wrong or is the mother of all catch-22s.

Treeza wants an extension in order to get agreement to her deal.

EU will only grant the extension if the deal has already been agreed.

And that's without even factoring in Bercow's spanner in the works.

What. A. Shitshow.

tobee · 20/03/2019 18:45

Update:- Sky says 8.15 Downing Street

SusanWalker · 20/03/2019 18:46

Thanks everyone. I don't even think I'll be the worst affected. I had to give DD double cooking ingredients today because a boy in her class keeps getting detention because his mum can't afford them.

I think it's only just properly hit me that no deal might happen. I think in the back of my mind I had a belief that it wouldn't.

fuckmayfuckthetoriesfuckbrexit · 20/03/2019 18:47

@User76765, I wasn't saying you should fuck off, just that I don't think vague allusions to crisis planning for the "bare essentials"helps at the moment. Anyway...we all have more important things to think about than squabbling, so apologies if I offended.

OutwithMyRemit · 20/03/2019 18:47

Thanks tobee. Could she be about to resign? Or just go on about how she's doing her best and don't panic? The latter is seems more likely.
