Theresa May has asked for a short extension until 30th June, after Cabinet Brexiteers stopped her asking for a longer extension.

She has not stated the purpose of the extension beyond 'to pass her deal'. Which does not have a majority, because if it did May would be overturn the standing order Bercow invoked to block MVIII.

The EU have not reacted well to the request. Noises from France sound negative.

That doesn't mean we won't get one, but its not looking good. If we do it looks unlikely to go beyond May 23rd and EU elections.

We do not expect a response from the EU until Monday.

May has therefore in practice reinstated the possibility of no deal next Friday. Or at the end of any extension we do get.

She is due to give a speech on a podum at 6pm tonight.

Parliament has called an emergency debate on the extension to try and take control of debate. It, so far, looks like no more that the Brexit Secretary filibusting. Its going round and round in circles going no where.

Meanwhile rumours that Operation Yellowhammer will kick in on Monday are in the air. That's the first steps to martial law to manage no deal. This is very bad.

9 days to go.

Not sure I have much hope of catching up but the general consensus is still: fuck.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 20/03/2019 17:39

Horror of horrors!

DGRossetti · 20/03/2019 17:39

Well I suppose if the WA did get passed on 29th,

Only it won't. Every passing second is ensuring the ERG dig their heels in. They think they've won, remember. If only they keep their nerve.

Songsofexperience · 20/03/2019 17:42

I bet it was! Or maybe it's just karma...

AwdBovril · 20/03/2019 17:42

It's like watching a car crash in slow motion. I feel a bit sick actually. How on earth is anyone expected to plan for anything normal, when everything normal is about to change? Useless arsehole politicians.

HazardGhost · 20/03/2019 17:43

DP won't let me watch the news on tv and he won't fall asleep so I can watch it anyway!

He slept (due to illness i should add he's not a lazy fucker) most of Xmas, his b'day, my bday, Easter, many other days away but the times when I want him to sleep the day away? Noooo... It's like his disease has a personal grudge against me.

We've only been saying on Westminstenders for months that TM's plan for her WA, was either (1) run the clock down, holding a No Deal gun to the country's temple, forcing Parliament to vote again and again until she won; or (2) run the clock down, make distracting clowndancing, thus deliberately causing No Deal to happen.

I waver between (1) and (2) but either way, it's despicable - and Parliament are 650 fools and/or psychopaths for going along with it.

User76765 · 20/03/2019 17:44

Name changed for this. I have just spent the day in an extremely scary risk team meeting for a very large public sector organisation. Can't give details but.. wow.

Songsofexperience · 20/03/2019 17:45

💐 and ☕ for you hazard

HazardGhost · 20/03/2019 17:47

Why NC if you won't spill the tea?

Spill the tea! Leak the memos!

Or give us a vague outline....

Yamayo · 20/03/2019 17:47

Frustratingly vague post from the above namechanger... Hmm

Songsofexperience · 20/03/2019 17:47

I can't bear to see what's happening to our country. It feels like an attack.

HazardGhost · 20/03/2019 17:47

songs thanks Gin you Star

OutwithMyRemit · 20/03/2019 17:48

PMK (pissing my kecks as No Deal looks likelier)

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2019 17:48

^A significant amount of Leavist Cabinet ministers are meeting the PM in No10 now (eg Gove, Fox, Leadsom, Hunt etc)

  • as many as 18, I'm told.^

Remainists (Chx, Clarke, Rudd, Perry) not invited.

Wtf.

Don't like look of that.

Thank you Red and Prettybird. In your threads you sound very much like you're on the ground. I agree with you about media manipulation. I think the negative media about the EU over the past 40 years had a big impact on the referendum result in 2016

tobee · 20/03/2019 17:50

Perhaps she's just going to hand over to the brexit cabinet ministers Red.

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2019 17:51

I can't, sorry. But it was about worst case scenarios if we crash out. I know its vague and frustrating but I wanted to let you all know that things are happening and plans are being made even if they're not really being spoken about and communicated.

67chevvyimpala · 20/03/2019 17:52

Handing over to leadsom?

She just stupid enough to take the PMship on.

The others are too astute and are biding their time.

Songsofexperience · 20/03/2019 17:54

Oh my god, please not Leadsom...

OutwithMyRemit · 20/03/2019 17:55

User76765 was it about mass graves?

Songsofexperience · 20/03/2019 17:57

'France, Spain and Belgium are ready to veto a Brexit extension, the Press Association understands.'

Not looking good...
