Why are people being so utterly vile?

Not on here, but online in general. I know tensions are running high, and people have very polarised viewpoints, but the level of vitriol and blatant racism is shocking. I’ve come to accept it as normal from the likes of the daily mail comments, but it’s even on Facebook - with their photo, name and place of work attached.

(And yes, before anyone says it, remainers can be pretty unpleasant calling leavers thick etc.)

Peregrina,

Really? 2-3% down on 2017 (which was a record year) but record spending ever.

What are you basing your assertion on?

Personally I know educated people that voted to leave their arguments were intelligent and sound they voted for what they believed and can't knock them for it no one I have spoken to has made even one racest or offensive remark. SOME of my remain voting friends are being vile others are of the thought we're in this mess now let's just get on and deal with it. I also know Alot of people who didn't vote because they felt they didn't have enough information I honestly believe if you feel that way then vote for the status quo rather than just not voting. At the end of the day the EU has been the villains and scapegoats for poor decisions in our government for a long time people got fed up of hearing it was the EU that was causing our steel industry to die. Or that EU fishing regulations were costing our fishermen their jobs that we pay millions in fines because we won't give prisoners a vote that we pay billions a year and get little back. I honestly never in my wildest dreams thought we'd actually vote to leave and the first thing I said when turning on the news the next morning (didn't bother staying up as I never thought for a second it could actually happen) was oh shit! I'm not judging either side as I don't think anyone's thought was let's fuck over the country I do think our politicians have Alot to answer for though!!

" live in probably the single most Remain area of the country. I simply don't believe that you don't know anyone who voted leave"

I have a friend in London who doesn't know anyone who voted Leave. I think she just lives in a bubble. Also, she's from another EU country so I suppose she might know some Leavers who just don't have the guts to tell her they voted to fuck up her life.

"Because it was democracy and so I had to be happy about it - not just accepting, happy."

Read up on losers' consent. There was no attempt to get that after the Referendum. Those who ask us to come together now and find common ground can go to that place Tusk was talking about.
There was no acceptance after the Referendum that the result was so close and that a compromise would need to be reached. It was all 'Brexit means Brexit'.
