Westministenders: Its Really Not Getting Any Better Is It?

RedToothBrush · 17/12/2018 23:10

We are STILL on collision course for no deal.

Christmas is here, and whilst we might appreciate the respite from Brexit News, its really a luxury we can't afford.

The meaningful vote is scheduled for January.

Chaos is scheduled for shortly after.

I wish you all a happy and enjoyable Christmas.

derxa I'm visually disabled, so I can't see detail.
Labour are telling porkies ? 😱

UnnecessaryFennel · 19/12/2018 14:05

He definitely said stupid woman.

He's an idiot (I say this as someone who voted for him).

Parliament is in uproar.

When are the grown-ups arriving?

Hazardswan · 19/12/2018 14:08

I guessed "people". HoC is sexist/racist/xenophobic/ablist/classist and the irony of the Tories jumping on one questionable phrase is just .

One hell of a distraction technique... is JC on the Tory payroll? Grin

howabout · 19/12/2018 14:19

Absolutely genius if JC has been caught calling TM a stupid woman under his breath - it's what even most of her own side think. Don't think it is a gendered comment as if she were a stupid man that's what he would have said. Still suspect she prefers being bloody difficult but if Ken Clarke were being candid rather than trying to politic his case atm he would probably describe her as both. Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 19/12/2018 14:21

I thought Soames was being sexist
I now think Corbyn was too.
Neither of them think normal rules apply to them, both part of the HoC problem

OlennasWimple · 19/12/2018 14:21

I've watched the clip a few times - he clearly says "woman". And "Stupid people" makes no sense. So JC is either a lying misogynist or incapable of coherent thought...

Meanwhile, warnings of UK food producers going bust in the next 6 months, the dairy sector being particularly vulnerable...

1tisILeClerc · 19/12/2018 14:22

So, while the EU are calmly getting on with a job that needs doing, the UK government are calling each other names.
Brilliant!

OlennasWimple · 19/12/2018 14:23

A little Christmas quiz for us all: name that MP!

Great photo of Bercow being harangued from all sides in the thread here . Who are they? I think the one nearest Bercow is Matt Hancock, but can't label the others...

TokyoSushi · 19/12/2018 14:24

You can see as clear as day that he says woman!

BigChocFrenzy · 19/12/2018 14:24

Barnier and the EU Commision have been the adults throughout the Brexit process,

while the UK side - most of them of all parties, sadly - have been the tantrumming toddlers, demanding unicorns and hitting each other

UnnecessaryFennel · 19/12/2018 14:26

I love that photo Olenna. Bercow looks positively Yoda-esque.

It's all just a flipping pantomime really, isn't it?

howabout · 19/12/2018 14:37

Re yesterday's discussion on the haulage industry and the EU's plans for managed No Deal their proposals today include a 9 month grace period for hauliers licensed in the UK to travel throughout EU27.

(see Adam Fleming's twitter)

IalwayswantedtobeBeth · 19/12/2018 14:47

Whether he said it or not she is, undoubtable, stupid. To keep going on about him not voting for Maydeal when she hasn't allowed a vote is stupid.

BiglyBadgers · 19/12/2018 14:56

She is being bloody stupid. I really can't bring myself to give two hoots if Corbyn muttered such a thing under his breath in the current situation. I do find the sight of MPs getting their pants all up in a twist about it while being apparently fine with bringing the country to the brink of collapse pretty damn offensive though.

BestIsWest · 19/12/2018 15:01

Doesn’t look like ‘woman’ to me. There’s a ‘p’ in there. Shouldn’t have been calling her stupid however. Waste of space. Wish Labour could get rid of him.

borntobequiet · 19/12/2018 15:05

I can’t see what he says, however hard I look. I can see what a shocking charade PMQs is, though - and so can everyone else in Europe and the world.
What a bunch of third rate clowns our elected representatives are.

ElenadeClermont · 19/12/2018 15:05

My opinion on Corbyn has not changed. I have very little time for him anyway.

ElenadeClermont · 19/12/2018 15:07

Olenna The MP smiling next to Hancock is David Lidington.

OlennasWimple · 19/12/2018 15:11

It's a great picture, isn't it Fennel?

Just a reminder that the reason JC is trying to claim that he was talking in general terms ("people) rather than specific ("woman"), is that any insult aimed at a specific person would be enough to earn a censure for unparliamentary language. They don't talk directly to each other (everything is technically directed through the Speaker), and so although they often go close to the line, MPs steer clear of personal insults

It's a bit like MNHQ moderation policy: someone can say "Olenna is being a twat", but if someone says "Olenna - you area twat" it will be deleted as a personal attack

ElenadeClermont · 19/12/2018 15:13

Olenna Man with beard is Tory whip Andrew Stephenson.

howabout · 19/12/2018 15:21

Lots of comments on twitter concerned JC assumed TM's gender, DD2 is not sure a Maybot would have a gender. Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/12/2018 15:26

I still cannot see what he said other than stupid, I've put my face right up to the tv. But it's a helluva distraction.

1tisILeClerc · 19/12/2018 15:27

I am not sure that Maybot isn't just a semi shaved Furby. Saying that at least a Furby has a switch to turn it off on occasions.

Sorry if this has been posted already but EU has published no-deal contingency plans:
ec.europa.eu/info/publications/communication-19-december-2018-preparing-withdrawal-united-kingdom-european-union-30-march-2019-implementing-commissions-contingency-action-plan_en and a press release here europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-18-6851_en.htm.

Contains some interesting items including:

  • requirement for UK citizens in EU needing long-stay visa or residence-permit for 90-day plus stays as per other 3rd country citizens.
  • financial sector changes - no UK service providers except for:
- recognition of some UK operators for central clearing of derivatives (12 months) - recognition of some UK operators for central security depositories
  • all customs compliance and tariffs apply as of exit-day (so JIT failure from day 1)
  • UK based air transport operators licensed by for a further 12 months (excl. EUEU travel) and EASA licensing for a further 9 months
  • UK licensed road haulage operators licensed for a further 9 months

Sensible measures but still going to result in substantial chaos as full customs checks and tariffs will be on from day 1.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/12/2018 15:28

Question: Are we allowed to call him a stupid man?
