2/3 of ordinary Anglicans, think that welfare spending is too high??

colouringinpro · 13/12/2018 21:40

As a Christian I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in the high Leave scores. Not a lot of loving thy neighbour or welcoming the stranger or serving the poor....Sad

Cailleach1 · 13/12/2018 21:41

Mrs, it is now on a to do list in my mind to contribute to a local food bank because of your posts.
Some people can't seem to be thankful for their good fortune. Or can't see that circumstances can change someone's life.

Hazardswan · 13/12/2018 21:43

lonely sorry for your losses Flowers

There's been numerous studies on prayer or meditation and it has proven benefits. I'm happy dog praying Grin it really helped btw. The dog loves it as well.

The family of leavers I know are religious and are 100% of the thought 'god will provide'. Want a Norway brexit because they want to take back control and make our own laws. They've fans of taking things to far and have hinted DP is ill because he lacks Christianity... Confused

Thankfully not all Christians are the same.

colouringinpro · 13/12/2018 21:47

Seriously hazard ConfusedHmm

Hazardswan · 13/12/2018 21:47

Shamba there is a dog! Grin didn t need to trip on acid to find him or go to church because he's on the sofa.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 13/12/2018 21:59

Flowers for Mrs 8. It’s amazing what you do.

Did I imagine it or did someone mention Boris getting prosecuted for lying?

lonelyplanetmum · 13/12/2018 22:01

Thanks Hazard.

Outrageous to hint some one is ill because of lacking Christianity. Grrrr Equally shocking that 2/3 of Anglicans think welfare spending is too high. Also the U.K. is too small stance I find hard to square with a faith.

That's when I find organised religion hard -when there's hypocrisy in it.

For example a Christian colleague I used to have lied- a lot. Thinking about it a wild Catholic friend I had years ago used to tear out the thin pages of her bible instead of rizlas for her occasional spliffs! Also a Muslim friend I had used to observe the fast during Ramadan - yet also went out clubbing with lipstick and a very short skirt and got off with a bloke who wasn't her husband!

However I guess what other people do doesn't stop you exploring your own religion.

lonelyplanetmum · 13/12/2018 22:03

I mentioned Boris being prosecuted. His lawyers haven't responded as yet. It's a real
Crowdfunded case that's been rumbling along.

Only the metro but basics are accurate I think..

Icantreachthepretzels · 13/12/2018 22:08

I don't pray but I do wish a lot. At this time of year I wish on the star on the top of my Christmas tree. Throughout the year I wish on my bunnies. Whenever I catch them, I make a wish on their feet - rabbits feet are meant to be lucky and how much luckier must a foot attached to a still living very spoilt rabbit be?

KeefBurton · 13/12/2018 22:20

Delurking to say @Mrs8 you have reminded me to donate to my food bank.

Please don't give up or feel down. You are so important.

JediJim · 13/12/2018 22:21

Playing devils advocate here. Most people of pension age voted leave. People on here are saying about EU workers here in the care system. I’m sure no one will be force to leave the UK. So EU citizens in their 20s/30s have many years left if they chose to remain.
Another point ,again playing devils advocate. If the UK is so reliant on EU workers ,then are we taking them away from their own countries where their skills might be needed just as much? One solution could be to improve pay and working conditions so British people will do these jobs.
It sounds harsh but I’m just saying it how I’ve heard leave voters out their opinions. Seeing as the leavers won, they can’t simply be ignored, whether you agree with them or not.
If the UK government maybe took notice of people’s concerns prior to 2016, then maybe we wouldn’t have this shit sandwich that we have now. Stable doors, horse bolted springs to mind.

MissMalice · 13/12/2018 22:26

There are absolutely things raised by Leave voters that need to be addressed thoroughly.

Even, imo, racism. What’s really behind it? What can we do to facilitate understanding, respect and balance integration with honouring people’s cultures? How much are austerity measures contributing to rising levels of overt racism? And so on.

So yes, we do need an overhaul. The solution isn’t leaving the EU, though. That’s just going to make it all worse.

It is well worth getting a wider view of Europe and the world to put things like Brexit into perspective.
I have been looking at Der Spiegel a German paper but available online for free in English. A report on why the UK staying in the EU might not be the best in the long term and a worrying report about racism in Italy.
Although on here Brexit is all consuming, it is prudent to look further afield and see what else is on the horizon.
We need to understand that most usual peoples aims in life are very similar, a home, family and food even if they might speak a bit funny.
Most of the 'immigrants' don't come to Europe or the UK to take things away but their home is too dangerous, sometimes caused by actions that the UK and other 'western' powers have made. Eliminating Gaddaffi who was undoubtedly very bad, had the effect of allowing rival rebel gangs to enlarge and drive out families and those wanting just to 'be'. Similarly removing Saddam Hussain enabled the expansion of ISIS and other terrorist groups. While we in the UK think that things are bad, there are many who have it a lot worse.

Apileofballyhoo · 13/12/2018 22:50

Did Amber Rudd cut the £10 Christmas bonus today?

1tisILeClerc · 13/12/2018 22:51

While the protests of the yellow vests in Paris and elsewhere have taken a rather sinister turn, there was a newspaper report saying that there are many lone parent protestors who are obviously not carrying knives and petrol bombs, but are still protesting as the social security is being whittled away. As caring people we need to find out about and appreciate the plight of others and not always take the sensationalist paper and TV headlines as being the whole truth.

GD12 · 13/12/2018 23:05

Yikes. May is finished, just have the vote now!

Exactly GD12, it pays to read the label on the tin before applying.
I suppose eventually the HoC and others might wake up to the fact that there are ONLY 3 outcomes and that they need to decide.

She hasn't got a clue. Let a Brexiteer take control, they will tell the EU what we want without a shadow of a doubt.}

Obviously this contributor doesn't understand that the 'negotiation time' for the EU is now over and it is time for the UK to decide which of the 3 options it is to be.

Europe ESTA announced for UK citz. €7 for 3 years and online form required.

Apile Not sure about the £10 cut. DP had it last year but it hasn't arrived this year. Thread earlier with people still getting it but not 100%. Usually get a letter stating your having it.

pretzels that's both sweet and much more pragmatic!

Off to catch up on links.

I agree. It is also exactly what I feel about Theresa May's 'Hostile Environment' - fundamentally against Biblical teaching.
