4. Everything changes so fast. Not long now.

Including public opinion ?

1tisILeClerc · 14/12/2018 09:03

My little 'fantasy' is EU27 leaders standing in a circle around Mrs May, saying in unison, in as many languages as they like' Just Fuck off now'.
6 months ago I would have assumed they would have phrased it far more politely, now I think it may be heading for this version.

On a more diplomatic note, maybe it would be 'helpful' if the likes of BMW/Airbus/Nissan collectively announce what they will do on 30 March. €7 for a travel visa is not enough to wake anyone up.

lonelyplanetmum · 14/12/2018 09:04

* ...under questioning from EU 27 leaders, one of Theresa May's responses was "Brexit means Brexit."*

This is a joke right? Has anyone from the EU ever said ' Errrr excusez moi but why didn't you have agreement of your own Parliament before spending two years thrashing this out with us? '

Peregrina · 14/12/2018 09:26

It's very difficult to feel sorry for Theresa May when she is still banging on about controlling our own borders and money, etc. etc. for public consumption here, and forgetting that the EU people she is negotiating with speak English and hear this.

Similarly, like making statements that the country is open for business while happily booting out people who have the right to be here. People aren't as daft as she seems to think.

ClashCityRocker · 14/12/2018 09:30

Just out of pure curiosity, how many people do you know who were actually that fussed about the EU either way before talk of a referendum began?

I don't think prior to the run up to the referendum, I'd ever really had much of a conversation about the EU (outside of work, anyway, where my job touches on it). Of course, everyone seems to be very vocal on their opinions either way now, but it does seem that the EU wasn't that big an issue until the bloody tories and ukip made it one....

RedToothBrush · 14/12/2018 09:33

Clash City the FT published a graph earlier this week showing no one cared about the EU before the ref; they cared about immigration. When the ref happened the two switched. Now people aren't that fussed about immigration...

Here's that graph

Westminstenders: Dear Santa for Christmas I'd like...
TatianaLarina · 14/12/2018 09:34

It’s very difficult to feel sorry for someone whose mess is entirely of their own making.

She could have chosen a cross party Brexit taskforce, she could have chosen to stress the closeness of the ref result and walked a middle line towards a soft Brexit. She chose hard Brexit and dumb red lines.

Now she has to take the consequences.

RedToothBrush · 14/12/2018 09:34

This would be the graph.

And so do we.

prettybird · 14/12/2018 09:35

One of the commentators on Sky News last night after the Juncker and Tusk's press conference pointed out that the worst outcome for May would've been for the EU to come up with something small but substantive, because she'd have then had to take it back to Parliament next week and lose - rather than kicking the can down the road again to after Christmas Confused

Peregrina · 14/12/2018 09:37

I can't recall any conversations much since the vote in 1975!

I know an awful lot who enjoy the freedom to travel with budget flights and not having the currency restrictions we used to have. The thing is, we have had nearly 30 years of the Single Market, so people forget what it was like before.

TatianaLarina · 14/12/2018 09:38

And so do we.

Unfortunately. But there’s no learning her.

ClashCityRocker · 14/12/2018 09:40

Jesus. That graph is terrifying.

Sorry I missed it originally.

RedToothBrush · 14/12/2018 09:43

That graph shows how much we are led by the media and politicians not actual reality if experience. It shows Brexit as a myth.

Now she has to take the consequences

No she doesn't none of them do, they are all very wealthy and will continue to have the adv of FOM in the future, she has no children, so little wonder she doesn't care about UC, education or health workers returning home helping to cause 94% to 100% occupancy of Hospital beds, she'll never ever use the NHS in the way all of us do.

I just hope that she finally realises she has to choose a different path, instead of her obsession with party over country.

The EU is treating the UK like the UK treats it's voters, and it's quite refreshing - because in these times, you have to take comfort where you find it.

Peregrina · 14/12/2018 10:09

she'll never ever use the NHS in the way all of us do.

Her own parents have passed away so she won't have the worry about finding carers/care homes for them. I don't know about her husband's family but being wealthy it would allow them to purchase the best care available, if necessary.

1tisILeClerc · 14/12/2018 10:12

I have no idea how the EU negotiating team have held such a straight face for so long. It's almost worth dialling Mr Junkers 'hotline' for a chat. I am sure if you convince him you are not a member of the cabinet you would have a pleasant discussion. I had a meal with a former EU general secretary a year ago. Once over the 'What the hell is the UK thinking', and expressing his views of Cameron, having met him a few times we got onto important stuff like good restaurants he knows.

1tisILeClerc · 14/12/2018 10:14

{ I don't know about her husband's family but being wealthy it would allow them to purchase the best care available, if necessary.}
I'm very happy for her (???).

GrabEmByThePatriarchy · 14/12/2018 13:55

I will hear many things against TM, but I don't see that not having children is relevant here. There are people with kids who don't give a fuck about those who need services, there are people without kids who devote their lives to the NHS. The point about her being wealthy enough to opt out is a better one.

RedToothBrush · 14/12/2018 14:26

Christopher Hope@christopherhope
The @Telegraph understands that as many as 12 ministers are among the 117 MPs who voted against Mrs May and are facing retribution from a furious Number 10.

A source says the whips are now “going through the process” to identify ministers who had no confidence in Mrs May. 😬

So not such a secret ballot then?
