Westministenders: Deadline Day #1

We have hit another Deadline Day.

As it stands, the EU are looking for more progress. May is digging in her heels by suggesting there is new a requirement for backstop to a backstop. The backstop to all intents and purposes is the GFA. So May is saying in effect, that the EU are forcing her to put in provisions to protect an international agreement we are signed up to, and if we breech it we risk peace in NI.

After lots of noise it seems that the Cabinet have decided to stick by May. For now.

The EU look like they are talking as if their meeting next month will exclude the UK and just go straight to No Deal planning.

There is also other talk of alternatives to allow the UK to stay in the customs union. But theres not much to that and it still doesn't solve the ERG and the DUP problem.

May is vastly unestimating how much the ERG and the DUP want to break the GFA. Which is a huge misjudgment.

There is also talk of the final final Deadline Day actually being Dec 13. For various reasons its not. Thats 29th March.

So Wednesday is Deadline Day #1. Expect more.

frumpety my goodness, that AIBU travel thread is a treasure trove of boneheaded ignorance, isn’t it?

That AIBU thread is basically a rerun of the previous one and some are only just waking up to the fact that something serious WILL happen unless there is a deal.
I watched Dominic Raab on the 'live from Westminster' House of Parliament on TV the other night. Even he is still spouting stuff that is categorically incorrect and has been proven to be so.
The enormity of what will and will not happen unless a deal is struck has not gone into many peoples heads.
The saddest part is that people are under the impression that the UP is finding ways to 'punish' the UK.

Talkstotrees · 17/10/2018 18:57

Wonder what happened to semi permanent?

Probably namechanged and either still posts about ‘remoaners’, avoids Brexit discussions or has shape shifted to become a remain voter Grin

Now wouldn't it be nice if Raab, Johnson, Gove, and a few more all went abroad around 27th March next year, for an early Easter holiday, and got stuck there. Ideally they would never get back, but that would be too much to hope for.

Hazardswan · 17/10/2018 19:18

mrs don't leave us hanging...what stupid thing? Cake have some cake.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 17/10/2018 19:25

< spanks MrsR8 🙀
Now there'll be a whole new load of depressingly ignorant comments to add to the ones already out there
the British Isles may sink into the sea, under all the weight of ignorance >

Ah OK, thank for the AIBU meaning.

So, remember how Australia would give us a trade deal straight away after Brexit?!... Oops...

I glanced at that AIBU thread. Apart from the 'paid to post' bots and surferjet Grin it just reminded me of that ''Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt'. Why do the British think being ignorant is something to celebrate?

frumpety · 17/10/2018 19:59

Still there, not been reported and moved yet ?

Absolutely not. I don't want those fuckers trapped abroad in a nice warm, functioning country with access to food and all their wealth whilst we face utter catastrophe here. I want them here for the crash out. I want them to have to face down the riots they created. When the mob comes knocking - I want them to be at home.

Re the Australian Trade Committee

The bit about the UK being a distressed negotiator so Oz should use this advantage like other countries
should be tattooed on the forehead of every STUPID Brexiter who keeps prattling st the marvellous trade deals we can do outside the EU

This is the govt consulation document for a UK-USA trade deal

https://consultations.trade.gov.uk/policy/consultation-on-trade-negotiations-with-the-us/

It is off-putting, bec ause the logi picture looks like Trump has alkready hit the UK with the US nuclear strike force 😳

It also has a survey to fill in, which we should do,
to express our distaste for importing chlorine & homrone ridden food with extra rat droppings, paid for by selling them the NHS

  • yes, Liam we know what you're up to ☠️
RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 20:15

Tom Newton Dunn @ tnewtondunn
Big news in Brussels - that Brexiteers will not at all like. According to a senior EU official, the PM has just told the 27 leaders she is "ready to consider the extension of the transition period".
