Westministenders: Deadline Day #1

We have hit another Deadline Day.

As it stands, the EU are looking for more progress. May is digging in her heels by suggesting there is new a requirement for backstop to a backstop. The backstop to all intents and purposes is the GFA. So May is saying in effect, that the EU are forcing her to put in provisions to protect an international agreement we are signed up to, and if we breech it we risk peace in NI.

After lots of noise it seems that the Cabinet have decided to stick by May. For now.

The EU look like they are talking as if their meeting next month will exclude the UK and just go straight to No Deal planning.

There is also other talk of alternatives to allow the UK to stay in the customs union. But theres not much to that and it still doesn't solve the ERG and the DUP problem.

May is vastly unestimating how much the ERG and the DUP want to break the GFA. Which is a huge misjudgment.

There is also talk of the final final Deadline Day actually being Dec 13. For various reasons its not. Thats 29th March.

So Wednesday is Deadline Day #1. Expect more.

If the gov won't budge on the customs union then NI remains the stumbling block.

Its either May caves and is ousted or hard Brexit IMO.

As pp said hard brexiteers are being mooted as May's replacement not remainers.

I don't want an extension (stay of execution) I would rather be put out of my misery.

I think it can be stopped. I'm not saying it will be stopped - but it can be. It's not over until it's over.

Did anyone see the picture of the EDL march in Manchester yesterday?
There were 20 of them ... surrounded by 63 police officers Grin
Leave Means Leave got a little bit over 1000 people.
We got 670 000 people on the street. The people in power can see which way the wind is blowing. They can see which cause is actually moving people to action. And we're seeing more and more politicians come out and say they support a people's vote. I heard one man, who was handing out leaflets yesterday, say 'we're winning - we haven't won yet but we're winning.' I think he's right - the brexiteers are running scared. Now is the time to double down even harder.

Thanks Bellini
It's mitigation at this point.
Crash out will mean certain death for thousands or more and martial law.
I'm not rushing towards that either.

The march shows the strength of public feeling - Remainers haven't got tired and given up

We won't stfu and all politicians can be sure we will be bloody angry at any economic recession or disruption to food, transport etc
Remainers would be a nucleus of anger and protests afterwards

The march may at least push the govt and some MPs into acting to obtain the softest possible Brexit, from political self-preservation

The illegal willy of the people stuff? Or Coup as we'd call it if we were watching this happen in another country.

Part of yesterday's demonstration included a wee visit to Scotland Yard to remind them about upholding the law and that.

There's talk of a private prosecution.Smile

Revealed: Met Police ignored Brexit campaign evidence for months

Scotland Yard claimed it didn’t receive key evidence about Leave campaigns until September. But the evidence was ready from May. They just didn’t bother to collect it
