I'm guessing surfer won't start another thread as the questions were getting a bit difficult on the last one. 😂

Thought this was worthy of discussion though

So it turns out those pesky EU immigrants actually contribute more than the average UK citizen.

Who knew 🤔

So you have just seen an example where going to S America is more difficult, but no comment on that, surferjet, because it doesn't suit your narrative. Most of the immigrants who do come here from the EU come because they are needed. Not just perhaps because British citizens don't want to work in care homes or pick fruit, but also because we are an aging population, significant numbers of whom are not physically able to sustain the effort those jobs require.

jasjas1973 · 03/10/2018 12:34

maybe some people are more worried about getting a job? but now we’re not going to be flooded with unskilled workers & people we just don’t need, things will be easier

Yep i agree, those ex car workers don't need unskilled migrants competing against them to find work.

KennDodd · 03/10/2018 12:41

What sort of 'unskilled' jobs is it that British people want to do but can't find? Do you know anybody who wants to do care work (for example) but can't find any?

KennDodd · 03/10/2018 13:31

An Aldi opened near my mum, somebody else I know (Well, she knows) was thinking of applying for a job there, they were told not to bother because Aldi only hire Polish people, Aldi didn't tell her this, other locals/friends told her this. Apparently according to them, Aldi is well known for this. Now I've been to this shop a few times now, I've yet to meet anybody who isn't white British, either working or shopping there. Dispute this, my mum (who shops there) and others still insist Aldi only hire Polish people, their latest line is that if your Polish you can just walk into a job there but if your English you've got all kinds of hoops to jump through.

KennDodd · 03/10/2018 13:32

Sorry rubbish typos.

bellinisurge · 03/10/2018 14:23

"Aldi only hire Polish people ". Most ridiculous load of bullshit I've heard today. And I've heard TM speaking.

bellinisurge · 03/10/2018 14:25

What unskilled jobs are UK citizens desperate to do? I forget.

Inkanta · 03/10/2018 14:32

'British citizens don't want to work in care homes or pick fruit,'

Never been convinced of that actually. For instance, where are these job adverts for picking fruit. I never see them. Teenagers in particular would love that work and the money.

1tisILeClerc · 03/10/2018 14:47

Fruit picking jobs, £8 an hour, must have own transport and be able to stand all day.
Google something tricky like 'fruit picking jobs UK'.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 03/10/2018 14:51

Aldi only hire Polish people ". Most ridiculous load of bullshit I've heard today. And I've heard TM speaking.

Heard exactly that re Amazon. No amount of facts would persuade MIL that it's bollocks. Old lies die hard I guess.

Inkanta · 03/10/2018 14:51

'Google something tricky like 'fruit picking jobs UK'.'

Eh - less of the sarcasm! I'm talking local job adverts for fruit picking or nursing home. You don't see them.

Inkanta · 03/10/2018 14:53

Teenagers by the way can stand all day. Saturday jobs or in the summer hols. Parents might drop them off and or they can get a bus.

Inkanta · 03/10/2018 15:35

Okay - this is in Cranbrook Devon. So farmers do still source their labour this way with direct job adverts rather than through an agency. All accessed online I assume (not in local papers anymore) - via sites such as, Indeed or Monster.

Local papers don't advertise like they used to do.

Peregrina · 03/10/2018 15:55

No local papers don't advertise, it's all moving on line, like shopping is. I looked up adverts for care home staff - loads of vacancies locally, but one care provider also had a stall in a local shopping centre.

KennDodd · 03/10/2018 19:42

Thai so depressing, this is the sort of country we're become and these people are our future.

So no one can actually cite an example of a British person being unable to get a job as a direct result of EU immigration, that is based on fact not hearsay and Chinese whispers?

Fucking marvellous.

frumpety · 03/10/2018 20:44

Ah Surfer I think you misunderstood my question, I wasn't asking how your life would be different when we leave, I was asking how your life would be different if we didn't ? With the caveat that the difference didn't include 'feelings' , just the ordinary mundane stuff that makes up 90% of everyone's day to day life Smile

lonelyplanetmum · 03/10/2018 21:32

It's even more effing marvellous because EU migrants actually have a positive effect. Immigrants also consume local services and goods, which increases demand and raises job prospects of those who produce those goods and services. Young working immigrants actually create more jobs and reduce. unemployment.Their spending in a local area creates more jobs. The LSE study found that a 10 percentage point increase in the share of EU immigrants in a local area creates a 0.4 percentage point drop in the unemployment rate in that area.

Bearbehind · 03/10/2018 21:42

It's beyond a joke now.

Leavers should be in for a shock when they can't blame the EU for all their ills.

When they can no longer even attempt to say the reason they can't get a job is because of those pesky immigrants.

The trouble is, they'll always twist it around so it's anyone's fault but theirs.

I've no doubt everything will continue to be the fault of the EU whatever happens.

Quietrebel · 03/10/2018 21:46

Or the French in a few years- for not letting the UK back in.

KennDodd · 03/10/2018 22:01

I've no doubt everything will continue to be the fault of the EU whatever happens

If people blame the EU now, for stuff that is demonstrably and legally, the responsibility of the UK government, I see now reason to suggest they will stop blaming the EU for anything or look closer at our own government after Brexit. What's more, politicians and parts of the media, will also point the finger at the EU and the electorate will be stupid enough to believe them.

Peregrina · 03/10/2018 23:54

This only works for a certain amount of time. The Tories are still trying to blame Labour for their financial problems, but the general public is now getting to the stage of saying that they've had 8 years, it's time they sorted it out.

surferjet · 04/10/2018 07:12

frumpety
The answer is the same. I don’t know how things will be if we don’t leave, who knows what new rules they’d inflict on us? That’s the thing here, you don’t know what the EU will be like in 10 years time either.,You voted for how things were in 2016. Absolutely no vision for the future or understanding that anything can change. Total blind faith in the EU, which is why very few people want to talk to you - you come across as fanatics.
I know a lot of you live abroad & are pissed off about FOM being removed, I get it, but we’re leaving & that’s it.
what more can anyone say to you?
