Boris Johnson is clearing the decks for a leadership challenge.

I guess that means that the Brexit we get all depends on what George, Michael and Boris decide over lunch and how good Operation Yellowhammer is.

Brilliant spot from @CoppetainPU - UK’s new draft WTO tariff schedules - the not yet agreed first independent trade schedules in four decades - are expressed in euros, not sterling. Literally cut and pasted from existing EU schedules, including its currency - eg page 1,

I expect that Tim and Vince will make mighty sure that they are there for the vote this time.

Blue passports and effectively only making a passport valid for 9 1/2 years - a price increase by stealth. I thought the country was supposed to be rolling in money come Brexit day?

Depending on where you were traveling to I remember rules that your passport had to have at least 3 months remaining beyond your planned return (to allow for queues at UK border control*)
I see that Mr Raab, the spokesman for disaster is 'upping the ante' by telling the EU that the UK won't pay the outstanding fees (the disputed but binding £39 Billion or thereabouts) if there is no deal.
So you go into discussions and you kick your former partner in the nuts, (or bolts). Interesting negotiating stance for the MINOR player.
The Gov must have one hell of a 'plan b' to deliberately piss off the EU who are main supply route for little essentials like food.

*not really.

Good luck Mrsr8!

No-Deal cabinet today kicks off at 8.30am; Told ministers will go through about 300 (I Know) various contigency plans for a No-Deal Brexit. We have seen just 25 technical notices so far (28 more today). Gives sense of how much planning going on that we don't know about. #Brexit

I know this is a stupid question, but why are the gov (???) putting so much effort into a no deal when they could actually put some effort into a deal, starting with reading the EU 'rules'?
I don't expect an answer, it is just another level of exasperation!
On another level of 'horrible' i was reading that 'kneecapping' is still a very real thing in NI. Certainly makes me feel sick and angry.

DGRossetti · 13/09/2018 08:47

UK’s new draft WTO tariff schedules - the not yet agreed first independent trade schedules in four decades - are expressed in euros, not sterling.

Over the past 2 years quite a few IT services that were charged in Sterling are now being charged in Euros or Dollars. I've also seen a couple of contracting rates expressed in non-Sterling terms (obviously leaving the business/contractor to carry the changes in exchange rate).

I'm no consumer law guru, but I wonder if the pricing of goods in sterling is actually mandated in law ? (Doesn't NI use dual-priced items near the border ?). Could we see a few shops in the UK start to charge in Euros ? (Pretty certain some in London already do Hmm)

BigChocFrenzy · 13/09/2018 08:53

LeClerc Even nastier:
I read in the Irish Times about a mother who took her son to be "punished" - to save him from even worse if they came to get him
Apparently, the paramilitaries have so cowed the inhabitants in the areas they own, that it is quite normal

A particularly nasty tactic of dictatorships is to force vicims to be compliant in their own "punishment"

1tisILeClerc · 13/09/2018 08:53

I think the UK should revert to Pounds, Shillings and pence.
The massive confusion for anyone younger than about 60 will help mask the loss in value of the Pound.
Schoolchildren can aspire to learning 12 times tables and to go the whole hog, revert to pounds and ounces, taking the multiplication tables to 16.

1tisILeClerc · 13/09/2018 09:01

@BCF
I believe there was a programme on in the UK about it last night.
The prospect of going for a 'couple of pints' then visiting somewhere to have your knees and ankles shot is........
In the article I was reading (one of the papers, previewing the programme) the 'comments' were sickening too, suggesting that it is brought into the UK mainland. I accept this may actually be happening now but if so it is kept pretty quiet.

DGRossetti · 13/09/2018 09:08

I think the UK should revert to Pounds, Shillings and pence

that has actually been suggested somewhere - pretty certain it was linked in one of these threads.

Shortly after the vote, I posted about reverting to Imperial, and a couple of long fucked off beLeavers tried to shout me down for exaggerating. They certainly didn't respond when I posted several serious articles in newspapers where people were calling for metric to be abandoned.

It's the same with Lsd.

metro.co.uk/2017/03/29/heres-the-crazy-things-brexiteers-want-to-bring-back-from-caning-to-shillings-6541331/

(Incidentally, it's a hoot to bone up on arcane measuring systems, just to piss Brexiteers off. I've not met anyone younger than me that can accurately work with old money. And imperial is even less well remembered ....)
