Talkstotrees - It's a page called Creative Campaigning. It's quite entertaining!

prettybird · 23/08/2018 11:24

I suppose the Government might consider this to be a success. I don't think the farmers whose crops rotted in the fields for lack of pickers would though Sad

Thus increasing pressure for immigration from outside the EU. India, Pakistan, southeast Asia perhaps ?

Yeah right. Now you are just being silly.

Actually, tucked in at the very end of the article is this: Meanwhile, the number of non-EU nationals working in the UK rose by 74,000 to 1.27 million." Wink

Raab looks ill.

Britons in EU could lose access to UK bank accounts under no-deal Brexit

Warning comes in government ‘technical notices’ telling businesses and public how to prepare in event of no-deal Brexit

Let me spell this out in another way

Form the Sun's Westminster correspondent:
Raab speech distilled: in No Deal scenario a deal will have to be done on passporting to protect British firms and pensioners. No Deal is dead as UK would seek a deal to mitigate disruption. Keep up!

Oh and you have to read Ian Dunt's thread on the speech too.

Highlights for me include:

Ian Dunt @IanDunt
It's like being taken on a tour of Jurassic Park by Little Timmy from the Upper Fifth.

and

Ian Dunt @IanDunt
Actually quite jarring, like a Black Mirror episode. Watching someone describe all this pointless horror with an upbeat but wavering voice, the forehead damp with sweat.

I'm feeling the need for a trip to Asda to buy beans coming on this afternoon.

No deal is still "a deal" ...

You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You'll still have made a choice

(thanks to Canadian beat combo "Rush" for that gem ...)

colouringinpro · 23/08/2018 11:51

Anyone know when the "Technical notices" are due out?

prettybird · 23/08/2018 11:58

Still digesting this

'No-deal' Brexit advice published by UK government
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45274972

....but at first glance the advice would indeed appear to be at the level of undergraduate essays.

eg Banks could set up subsidiaries in case their Passporting rights are withdrawn Hmm

'Technical notices' or ransom note? A hostage situation is only viable to the kidnapper when the the hostage has value.

Has anyone seen the film Entebbe?

RedToothBrush · 23/08/2018 12:36

But we get paid in GBP in a GBP bank account, how can I lose access to it?

Cos it depends on where you are withdrawing or even accessing your data. Both require a deal with the EU.

good that I have kept my € account from when I worked in euroland...

@faisalislam
the biggie: basically businesses that import and export from EU advised to buy software, invest in warehousing, customs processing, renegotiate commercial contracts & “consider their role in EU supply chains” when WTO most favoured nation tariffs apply

Whatthefoxgoingon · 23/08/2018 12:43

I am not filled with confidence Sad

RedToothBrush · 23/08/2018 12:44

Here is the wonderful, and gloriously anti-data lobby group
migration watch

Migration Watch @brazenracists
A number of commentators are wilfully misrepresenting our paper. We clearly state, in paragraph 7 of the paper, that births to migrants are an indirect impact on population growth as the result of immigration.
It is not controversial to include children of immigrants in the population of immigrant background. Countries such as the Netherlands do this.

Getting owned:

Simon Cox @ simonfrcox
Hi @MigrationWatch Can you confirm that your definition of “migrant” includes Prince Charles, Boris Johnson, his children - and children of Nigel Farage and Arron Banks?

You’re welcome to include them @MigrationWatch . Just tell everyone who reads your stuff that’s who you mean by “immigrant”.

Oh and guess what, Tommy Robinson's parents were Irish immigrants too!

there's a boy leaning against a wall of rain, aerial held high, calling come on thunder, come on thunder

For any James fans that sums up brexit really. In fact I can see Raab in his suit up there in the rain.
