Asou Trade deals typically take 7-15 years to negotiate.
It was never possible to get one in the 2 years of A50 before Brexit.

Even a Norway+ deal - which is as near to current status as possible - would require a transition period after Brexit to work out all the details for a far more complex economy like the UK.

The Withdrawal Agreement would only give a framework for a future trade relationship - iirc, referred to as the Political Statement - so any trade deal to be sorted out later in a transition period or even after that.

Mother The WA draft would enshrine expats right of permanent abode in the country they reside on Brexit Day

However, afaik, it does not give UK expats the automatic right to reside or work in other EU countries as well, i,.e. not FOM.
That is a problem for the minority who live in one EU country and commute to work in a neighbouring one.

I am not sure if FOM would even apply for the transition period

The EU originally offered FOM across 27 countries as well, but only if E27 expats in the UK retained all their rights, including ECJ, non-EU sposes etc
May refused this.
Hence, UK expats have lost FOM.

Without a WA, the individual countries decide.
In some, there would be sympathy for expat Brits and also more generous laws for non-EU citizens.
In others, Brits may have fewer friends.
