Its all going so badly and everyone is worried, but what can be done?

Do we want another referendum and the whole Brexit thing aborted? Do we want another leader doing something different? Do we think Teresa May is doing everything that can be done?

I say "do we think" but to be honest, I don't think anything either way of Teresa May, I don't know what to think.

I don't know what could make things better at this stage

I wish I could up vote for this sentiment. Nothing more logical or appealling than wish ill on your country.

Oh Francine. That's priceless.

I wrote an essay all about how I don't wish ill on my country and you take one line and quote it out of context to make it look like I said the exact opposite to what I actually said. How clever you are.

SLOW HAND CLAP FOR YOU.

Moussemoose · 02/08/2018 12:16

Oh I don't know. I think there is nothing worse than actually acting and voting in a way that will actually cause harm to your country.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 12:17

I can blame whoever I damn well like if they are messing up my DD's future. I do what I can to make her future positive despite any obstacles. If you deliberately throw an obstacle in her way, I will blame you.
No she shouldn't have to wait 50 years for this shit to sort itself out.

'I also think we should just cancel a50'

It's the only sane way forward

Yaralie · 02/08/2018 15:21

There is no reason not to cancel A50. Lord Kerr, its author is clear ir can be done at any time before we leave. Just because you've written a suicide not you don't have to jump off a cliff.

Ihatemycar · 02/08/2018 15:29

Let's face it the only thing that people that wanted to remain should have done it's to vote Remain simples.
Well you didn't and here we are. Goes to show that uneducated simple people can be organised and voted. 17.4 million of us voted to leave the customs union, free movement etc.
Didn't like the result tough. There isn't going to be another referendum and we are leaving because that's democracy.
We are leaving not soft not hard just Brexit.

Ihatemycar · 02/08/2018 15:35

@LoveInTokyo think back at a time before we joined the EU.
There was life in the oldest democracy in the world.
A world power an Empire. That's what Britain is the 5th largest economy in the world.
Let's not forget what we represent to the EU. We mean billions.
A relationship it's meant to be equal partnership.
The EU it's an abusive partner that only wants money and sex. Not your opinion or your input on how to be happy in the relationship.

KennDodd · 02/08/2018 15:37

Actually, even on these threads there are Leave voters who DIDN'T/DON'T want to leave the SM and CU. I idea that all 17.4 million of them all voted with the same outcome re SM/CU in mind is a just another Leave lie and you know it.

KennDodd · 02/08/2018 15:40

A relationship it's meant to be equal partnership.

What do you mean by this? Do you mean UK= EU 27 or do you mean all 28 countries of the EU are equals? The EU is only the sum of it's parts.

TheMonkeyMummy · 02/08/2018 15:44

The EU it's an abusive partner that only wants money and sex. Not your opinion or your input on how to be happy in the relationship.

Wtf? Are you just making up crazy shit now @Ihatemycar ?

falcon5 · 02/08/2018 15:47

@ihatemycar I didn't vote leave to end the customs union or free movement. Don't put your words in my mouth.

Ihatemycar · 02/08/2018 15:50

@Moussemoose

Parliament should find it's nerve and rescind article 50. I think we will need another referendum to make it legitimate in the eyes of the (massively ignorant and uneducated) public.

How dare you calling 17.4 million people massively ignorant and uneducated.
Even if that were to be the case Leave won the referendum.
You still have a choice to leave this sinking boat and live in Greece. I hear it's the land of milk and honey.
We Britain deserve better than the way the EU has been treating us. Taking our money and not allowing to have a voice.
If you want to stay it's just bad luck for you.
You can thank us later when we return to be Great Britain with a world of possibilities.

Ihatemycar · 02/08/2018 15:56

@falcon5 so what do you think we were voting for?
It was very clear we'll leave the customs union, stop free movement, stop paying billions in EU membership etc. It was clear.

Ihatemycar · 02/08/2018 15:58

@TheMonkeyMummy it's an analogy of a bad relationship. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Moussemoose · 02/08/2018 16:00

Ihatemycar well I call people ignorant because they don't understand how our parliamentary democracy works. My implication was that the people who think the referendum was a binding election are ignorant and uneducated.

I am sure you are aware that the U.K. parliament is sovereign and the referendum was advisory.

I am sure you are aware we had the same 'voice' in the EU as every member state via a democratic system.

I am also sure you aware the term Great Britain does not include Northern Ireland.

KennDodd · 02/08/2018 16:04

It was very clear we'll leave the customs union, stop free movement, stop paying billions in EU membership etc. It was clear.

No it wasn't.

KennDodd · 02/08/2018 16:05

Look at the dates, this stuff was said BEFORE the ref.

falcon5 · 02/08/2018 16:06

And I'll echo that.... I remember Boris coming round the west country and in no way were we going to be out of Europe they are friends etc etc Norway model great just voting against the "ever closer political union " model bit.

Cornishclio · 02/08/2018 16:13

What do the leave voters actually want?

If they want to leave the CU and SM do they understand the implications of that and how we cut a deal with the EU? If we don't do a deal what happens then? Separate deals with each individual country which could take forever and will most certainly not be in the best interests in the UK. How many small businesses who currently export overseas are happy with arrangements post Brexit? They don't seem to have a clue what will happen any more than the rest of us.

I just have this vision of these hard Brexit voters being probably old (older than me anyway) , harking back to a vision of what they thought Great Britain was years ago. We are a small country. How do you think we can have any influence in todays world. We owe billions in debt, still have a deficit every year and most certainly will have a problem with contracting economy, higher prices etc post March 2019. How will that lead to a better future for most of us?

Yet still the same soundbites. "Brexit means Brexit." "Lets get on with it". I wonder how many of these leave voters rely on the NHS because with inability to get some medicines, the recruitment and retention problems in it there is a good chance that will be one of the first casualties of Brexit.

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 16:15

  1. We are not the oldest democracy in the world.
  2. Before we joined the EEC we were known as "the sick man of Europe".
  3. Since Brexit we are no longer the 5th biggest economy in the world.
  4. Around 44% of our trade is with the EU whereas around 8% of the EU's trade is with us. We need them more than they need us.
  5. We already had a better deal than any other country in the EU, with full voting rights and more influence than many of the smaller countries, but multiple opt outs.
  6. The idea that they are the "abusive partner" is beyond ridiculous.

Apart from that, great post.

Moussemoose · 02/08/2018 16:21

Empire is now not widely regarded as 'a good thing'. Not something to look back on with nostalgia. The U.K. did very well out of it - the rest of the world not so much.

TheMonkeyMummy · 02/08/2018 16:26

@Ihatemycar I got that. It's an incredibly outlandish one that bears no resemblance to the situation thoughConfusedHmm

Peregrina · 02/08/2018 16:27

That you tube clip needs to be repeated each time a Leaver says that we, 17 million of us, voted to Leave the Single Market. Note that all three countries are in Schengen also.

Peregrina · 02/08/2018 16:30

India and Pakistan gained their independence in 1947. Suez killed off any pretence of being a World power. That was 1956. By the late 1960s most of the countries of the Empire had gained their independence.
