oh it's got a little tense in this jolly little pub

Have I stumbled into the Tory party by accident?

CaptainBrickbeard · 13/06/2017 07:21

time4chocolate, where will the Tories find the money to buy votes from the DUP? That isn't going to come cheaply, is it? I'm fascinated to know how people who believe we can't afford the NHS and other public services think the government can find the money to pay for this?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2017 07:25

Turkey is now a dictatorship under erdogan

Great place to sell arms though Hmm

www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/28/100m-arms-deal-turkey-blind-eye-rights-abuse

WeakAndUnstable · 13/06/2017 07:37

OK, think positive.

Instead of selling arms to Turkey, maybe Theresa May could simply give the arms directly to the DUP instead of cash.

Solves two problems at once, right?

Oh wait......Shock

surferjet · 13/06/2017 07:39

Remainers. chill out. You're getting the soft Brexit you wanted now so you should be pleased.
This election couldn't have gone better for you really ( well it could, but the libdems did rubbish )
You lot should be happy! ----> see, like this Grin

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2017 07:44

I'm very happy Surfer. Enjoying my continental breakfast in the Arms this morning whilst reading the papers.

Carolinesbeanies · 13/06/2017 09:37

Smiley face here too, even reading this. (For you badders,
Its worse.)
www.neweurope.eu/article/uks-economy-worst-performing-eu/

Are we in danger of slipping down to 6th largest economy in the world? Well, France are going to struggle overtaking.....but watch that space.

Croissant anyone?

Bananagio · 13/06/2017 09:41

I am really happy Surfer Grin. After a year nearly of "you lost, suck it up" nonsense as well as delights on these boards such as "remoaners are the equivalent of the BNP" it is nice to see the glimmer of light from a possible soft Brexit. As a Brit living in Europe I am delighted to see Macron doing so well at the latest polls and the 5 Star populists in Italy did horrendously at the local elections this month. So far no domino effect as desired by so many in the U.K. In fact - the opposite. And to be honest a soft Brexit which allows the Brits to still be in the single market with all that brings but which stops the veto regarding future direction of the union is possibly the best solution all round. Early days though and am not about to count chickens in these crazy times! I'll just take a few days of hope for now.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 13/06/2017 09:48

I think post Brexit we will be towards late teens of economies. Talking to DH last night about this

Still we have control of our borders...no wait already did

Charmageddon · 13/06/2017 09:59

I find it amusing that Macron is being so universally celebrated across these boards by the TORIES ARE THE DEVIL crew - he's basically Blair/liberal Tory.

Nice to see a few remainer smiles this morning though!

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 13/06/2017 10:13

Just think I a year or 2 we might not have to worry about those pesky G8 meetings anymore when we no longer qualify!

surferjet · 13/06/2017 10:20

One thing I'll never understand about the liberal, caring, left - why are so many of them really aggressive & nasty?
Some of them really are hateful which just doesn't fit with the sort of person they're supposed to be?

surferjet · 13/06/2017 10:22

I'm more caring & tolerant than most of the left wingers on here & I've voted ukip in the past.
It's a mystery ( as the wonderful Toyah once said )

Bananagio · 13/06/2017 10:25

charmageddon I am celebrating Macron because he resoundly defeated Le Pen, helped halt the move towards anti- European and extreme right populism and is firmly committed to the EU. They were and are huge threats facing Europe in my opinion. Oh and I am left wing and happy with Corbyn but I certainly don't think all Tories are the devil Confused. So why wouldn't I be happy with a centrist pro European defeating the far right with fascist links Le Pen?

Badders123 · 13/06/2017 10:34

He beat le pen
Good enough for me
Rumour is SF are visiting WM and may take up office space ....prelude to taking their seats????

WrongTrouser · 13/06/2017 10:44

One thing I'll never understand about the liberal, caring, left - why are so many of them really aggressive & nasty?

The last 18 months have been a real eye-opener, haven't they? The thing I feel most depressed about it how little respect for democracy so many people have though, and how quickly they are happy to throw it out the window as long as it means they get their way.

Charmageddon · 13/06/2017 10:52

One thing I'll never understand about the liberal, caring, left - why are so many of them really aggressive & nasty?

Agree Surfer.

Has been a real eye opener for me too Wrong - I've been mostly gobsmacked by the nastiness & tantrums.

All very silly.

Charmageddon · 13/06/2017 10:53

In fact, 'ignorant fuckers' springs to mind.

How damned tolerant!!

surferjet · 13/06/2017 10:53

I know. I don't think they're caring liberals at all - they're something a lot more sinister.

Charmageddon · 13/06/2017 10:56

Perhaps Putin has got to them Surfer?

We know his fingers have ventured into many pies over the last few years.

WrongTrouser · 13/06/2017 11:14

I don't think they're caring liberals at all - they're something a lot more sinister

This is my assessment too. It has been a long, slow road for me, with a lot of Christopher Hitchen's "moral and intellectual double bookkeeping" along the way when I was trying to understand behaviour versus claimed values but once you see the light, it is all a lot simpler to get your head round.

what rubbish! Stop linking us all together wrong - you are one of the first who protests (quite rightly I may add) when all Leavers are branded (quite wrongly) as racists so stop assuming you know what the majority of Remainers want. I am a passionate remainer who is against a second referendum because I think the vote needs to be accepted but who believes democracy is an ongoing process of engagement, protest etc.

Perhaps Putin has got to them Surfer?

Eh? Because Putin is so committed to a strong and stable Europe isn't he! If we are going to start looking into Putin connections over the past few years then let's start looking at Farage and co!!

One thing I'll never understand about the liberal, caring, left - why are so many of them really aggressive & nasty?

Most of us aren't. The same as most of you don't talk about libtards and go on and on and on about sucking it up and liken people who are upset and vocal about the Leave vote to the BNP.

WrongTrouser · 13/06/2017 11:40

Well, I wasn't talking about you then Hmm

There are plenty of people out there who have made it quite clear they are prepared to do whatever it takes to scupper Brexit, whether that means both Tories and Labour renegaging on the manifestos which got them elected or not. If you are not one of those people, then my comment wasn't aimed at you.

Engagement, protest, dialogue - good
Renegaging on manifesto promises and stuffing democracy -- not good

Charmageddon · 13/06/2017 11:41

Chill Bannagio!

Most of your post is hyperbole btw.

Wrong never said 'all', she said 'so many' - you even bolded it just before you ranted about her 'linking you all together'

The Putin comment was a joke.
I thought it was clear, but it appears not.
Nonetheless, a bit of an overreaction from you.

By the way, i cannot find the word 'libtard' anywhere on this thread.
Not something I have seen used by the regulars on these threads at all - so again, hyperbole.

People who are upset & vocal about the Leave vote are likened to the BNP?
Where?

WrongTrouser · 13/06/2017 11:46

And on that point, I hope that many of the people who have never wanted to leave the EU will nevertheless stand up in support of democracy if there is an attempt to not honour the referendum result and general election result (where both Tory and Labour stood on leaving the single market and ending freedom of movement) which were expressions of the democratic choice of the people of this country.

The measure of how much someone truly believes in democracy is how far they will support it when that means not letting a decision they disagreed with be scuppered.
