surferjet · 29/03/2017 13:12

Yep - good luck to all remainers. As we all start drifting away from this board let's remember the laughs we had on here. Smile

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 13:15

"Who has been saying that all leave voters should be "tarred with the same brush" as the bigots? Who?"

Well certainly not me!
I have said, over and over, on here and in real life, that leavers should not all be tarred with the same brush. And that many are moderate, outward looking people who care about workers rights, the environment, and about the rights of EU migrants already settled in Britain.
My point was that although Leavers voted leave for a variety of reasons, there are those (many in positions of power) who are determined to act as though all leavers voted for the same, narrow interpretation of Brexit. Those people are not remainers!

If Brexit is being carried out according to the whims of the hard right fringes of the tories, then that is how your vote is being interpreted by those that matter.

I don't really agree with your analogy, a better one would be a man who claims to be a feminist, but says nothing (or laughs along) when his mates in the pub start saying misogenistic or rapey things about women.

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 13:16

The people "spreading untruths about leave voters" are sitting on the Brexit committee.

scaryteacher · 29/03/2017 13:19

Semi Have the horrid lurgy currently doing the rounds in Brussels. Am curled up on the sofa with a mug of tea watching all the commentary whilst Article 50 is being triggered. Lovely and sunny here yesterday.....chillier and grey today.

SemiPermanent · 29/03/2017 13:25

Rufus You are a beacon of reasonableness and niceness Flowers

I concur!

WrongTrouser · 29/03/2017 13:26

Your giving your game away there Seek

"claims to be a feminist" (i.e. not really a feminist) = "claims to not be a racist" (i.e. is really a racist)

"says nothing or laughs along with misogynist things (i.e. not really a feminist) = really a racist.

Anyway, think what you like, I'm not going to waste any longer trying to explain it to you. If you want to carry on trying to get people to think that the majority of leave voters are hard right racists, or that their votes should be interpreted as such, knock yourself out, I can't stop you.

SemiPermanent · 29/03/2017 13:27

Hope you feel better soon Scary BrewCake

I expected to see footage of you doing a victory dance in the background of the Brussels footage!!

WrongTrouser · 29/03/2017 13:31

Apologies Seek that should have been addressed to squishy

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 13:37

It was me who said that Wrongtrouser.
And I don't have a game.
I was trying to suggest (clumsily perhaps) that it is not Remainers who are giving Leave voters a bad name. It is other Leave voters.

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 13:38

"If you want to carry on trying to get people to think that the majority of leave voters are hard right racists, or that their votes should be interpreted as such, knock yourself out, I can't stop you."

If you read any of my posts, I have been saying the opposite. But if that's how you want to interpret my words, so be it.

time4chocolate · 29/03/2017 13:40

Rufus - At least i can say i made an effort on these threads
smile

It's thanks to you Rufus and your top tip back in Nov that I am now able to Pee & Post at the same time Grin. I will be forever grateful to you Smile.

Limer · 29/03/2017 13:44

Hurrah!!!

Cheers everyone Wine

SemiPermanent · 29/03/2017 13:51

Limer Wine

CardinalSin · 29/03/2017 13:57

Oh well, I guess the UK has had a good long innings as a global power punching well above it's weight. Time for us to retire and become a quiet backwater of quaint old villages and tea houses.

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 14:01

Cardinal: I've had this song going round and round my head all day.
Misty eyed nostalgia for a past that never really existed.
And God save the strawberry jam, because if things go tits up our export revenues may depend on it. And all of the other varieties.

SemiPermanent · 29/03/2017 14:02

On Daily Politics they just mentioned the amounts each country pays in per year app:

€14 billion Germany
€12 billion UK
€6 billion France

A few other contributors of less than France, then every other country in the r27 is a beneficiary.
Shock

surferjet · 29/03/2017 14:03

The worst part about all this is finding out how many people hate this country - if you hate the UK so much what the fuck are you doing here?
The airports's that way ---->
get the first flight out to Germany.

CountMagnus · 29/03/2017 14:08

surfer I'm sure plenty of people might think about doing just that (or moving to France, or Spain or Portugal etc), but given nobody knows what residency rights UK citizens will have in the EU in 2 years time, that's a bit of a gamble isn't it?

surferjet · 29/03/2017 14:15

I hope they do because we don't need people dragging us down, if you hate England & the English & feel 'ashamed' to be British - like so many of you do - then piss off quite frankly. You won't be missed.
But you'll go nowhere because you know you're better off here, you're all just full of shite.

Olympiathequeen · 29/03/2017 14:16

I totally agree squishy. I am only speaking from personal experience in other Brexit threads. I hate the extremists and ukip and Farage (although they pushed a reluctant government into listening instead of ignoring many people's fears) and I would never support them personally, but I now hate all the Remainers who have called me racist, xenophobic and tried to humiliate me in the process. So far this pub has been pretty friendly on all sides, but I'll go if I have to.

Thanks seek.... faultless logic! So if I voted for law and order 40 years ago (hypothetically) I would also have been endorsing capital punishment? It may have been part of the laws at the time but I don't support capital punishment. Yet you would be saying I do?

My vote was primarily against the lumbering, unaccountable spendthrift EU beaurocracy

Kaija · 29/03/2017 14:16

I love the way these old racist tropes - "why don't you just fuck off back to where you came from if you don't like it?" - are now being co-opted by self-declared non-racists to attack British people who hold the wrong views.

Kaija · 29/03/2017 14:18

Surfer I was proud to be British until very recently.

Limer · 29/03/2017 14:18

Good point about the sheer numbers and net beneficiaries SemiPermanent

No wonder the EU didn't want us to leave, the unending supply of golden eggs from the UK goose is going to dry up.
