Did we even define what British culture is? I appear to have very little in common with brexiters.

Bearbehind · 22/03/2017 12:04

svetlana, when you said you were from a different country are you sure you didn't mean a different planet? Hmm

Nothing you say makes any sense whatsoever.

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 12:05

That old tactic Bear, shame on you.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 12:10

Such sensitive snowflakes.

CountMagnus · 22/03/2017 12:11

Bear I am as confused as you.

I am getting a string whiff of Islamophobia though.

Olympiathequeen · 22/03/2017 12:14

I don't need to google cognitive dissonance as I know wha it means.

I suggest Remainers google 'confirmation bias', because it's what's used constantly to back up their doom and gloom view.

Then maybe, Grimes, you have not travelled much. if you had, you would be thankful for what has shaped this country's culture - which is democracy, rule of law, liberty, tolerance and on the whole the good-nature of most brits. allowing in very large numbers of people who are intolerant of anything except what they believe to be correct and will not consider any other pov is not the way for a country to progress as a country.

squishysquirmy · 22/03/2017 12:17

Are there board games in the arms? Like Cluedo?
It was Squishy in the sitting room with a stack of EU treaties!

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 12:19

Really magnus, you seem to see islamophobia everywhere. Why is that?

squishysquirmy · 22/03/2017 12:20

I don't think British culture is, or ever has been, homogenous but I do like to think that most British people would agree that the values of democracy, rule of law, liberty, tolerance and on the whole good-naturedness are important.

The best way to protect our values, is to embody them.

(And no, disagreeing with someone else's opinion is not being "intolerant", before you go there.)

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 12:21

Deal or no deal squishy. What's in the box? Who cares we got our country back!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 12:25

Most things reported in the news were predicted by remainers prior to the referendum. Most business leaders and politicians of all political persuasions wanted UK to remain. Happy to hand my confirmation bias or vindication over to the brexiters. What's the plan now?

Bearbehind · 22/03/2017 12:26

'Shame on me' for what svetlana

Absolutely nothing you've said on here makes any sense and you can't back up any of your statements.

There's no 'shame' in pointing that out.

Bearbehind · 22/03/2017 12:28

allowing in very large numbers of people who are intolerant of anything except what they believe to be correct and will not consider any other pov is not the way for a country to progress as a country.

Exactly which groups of people are you referring to here svetlana?

CountMagnus · 22/03/2017 12:28

Really magnus, you seem to see islamophobia everywhere. Why is that?

No, I don't think so - it's the first time I've ever mentioned it.

However, when I read comments about immigrants to the EU not wanting to work for a white boss then it's not an unreasonable conclusion to draw, is it svetlana?

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 12:29

Brexit is just stage 1 of what could be a fresh beginning for UK but only if the great & the good have the will, energy and capability to turn around the fortunes of the UK. IDS tried and failed to get some people back to work. He failed because there is very little work available to get back to. yes, EUs are in post and they are doing a good job. But that is not the point - I believe that brits should have first dibs.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 12:31

I've not seen much tolerance and respect for the rule of law post referendum Svetlana.

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 12:34

Bear, internet available to everyone. I have seen figures and you have too but still you deny that there has been very large and too quick influx of immigrants.
Why do you deny? the hospital where I work, and others, are under such massive strain. cursory look into clinic waiting area is self explanatory.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 12:35

Fit to work tests are a disaster and punish the sick. Svetlana your last post proves Brexit will just be more austerity and vilifying the vulnerable.

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 12:36

I've not seen much tolerance and respect for the rule of law post referendum

I have seen and heard only anti-brexit people making trouble in the streets, going on demos, etc. to do what ..... overturn election result?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 12:36

Hospitals are understrain because of government mismanagement. NHS would collapse without EU workers.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 12:37

Going on a demo is not making trouble it's called democracy. That thing brexiters used to scream about.

Svetlana33 · 22/03/2017 12:42

I have written several reports to Atos on behalf of people who genuinely cannot work. atos and the other agency play hardball, force people to go to appeal. Atos will deliberately decline report because they want to exhaust the claimant, but so far no one of "mine" has lost. sometimes you have to go further than appeal, up to Upper Tribunal. but it is OK, if genuine case I win.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 12:44

People in vulnerable situations are not always in a position to fight appeals. Particularly if they are seriously ill.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/03/2017 12:45

I see we've moved on from bashing immigrants to bashing vulnerable Brits.
