Interesting Howabout.

" particularly when political views are taken as a sign of social class and more—something akin to religion"

Yes it is like a religion.

I think it was mentioned across one of the threads I forget which one Informal.
Its important for us all to remember people cheat. Farms cheat. We cant blindly trust any organization. But then I suppose this fits in with the whole leave remainer thing doesn't it! Grin

InformalRoman · 04/02/2017 10:21

OK, fair enough Debbie. I remember the news about the caged hens on the continent and the outrage of UK farmers - many food processing companies buy the cheap continental eggs and they end up in mass produced foodstuffs.

www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-4190456/PETER-OBORNE-Truth-EU-bigoted-US.html

Interesting.

Very good points.

"Many European politicians treat migrants — and, in particular, Muslims — more disgracefully than they are being dealt with by Trump"

"For example, Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, wants to build a ‘massive’ fence to stop refugees crossing into his country from the East. He calls migrants ‘a poison’ that Hungary ‘won’t swallow’.

"Why hasn’t he been subjected to the kind of chorus of opprobrium from those European liberals who greeted Trump’s move to tighten America’s borders? Why have fellow EU leaders not shunned Orban as a racist and a xenophobe?

Instead, he is seen as a valued colleague and friend
Yet this man is much more bigoted than Trump. But do we ever hear talk of banning Orban from travelling to Brussels?

^^ Because the EU has no morals at all. People are accusing May of using people as bargaining chips, no mention of the physical shunting of people back to Turkey BY Merkel!!

i don't understand how people can be so hypocritical.

But he's not DT so it's ok.
That's how their minds work.

Anything goes as long as its in the EU I suppose....nothing must bring it down, at any cost.

surferjet · 04/02/2017 10:43

Think of EU like a bouncy castle. It appears to be a huge strong construction. It has entrance restrictions. With good management it can elevate those inside as the rise higher, shout louder. But if its not managed and too many inside are scrambling around banging i to each other and causing consternation from the affected onliokers, the weight becomes too much, the machinery breaks down, it goes pop, and whats left is just a big artificial plastic tangke and a gust of hot air. The EU is a mirage of a stong edifice. It will bring about its own destruction. Sermon of the day. Signed, Brexit Banana (I'm not chicken).

howabout · 04/02/2017 11:04

... and Austria banned the burka and niqab on World hijab day. Was proud of TM and Tasmina uniting, during PMQs, in upholding the right of women to choose what to wear where.

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 04/02/2017 11:19

I really feel this needs to be bounced back to Hollande etc, clegg and so on.

How would they wriggle out of this. brexit banana like your description, it is a mirage.

SemiPermanent · 04/02/2017 12:21

Morning all!
Am still feeling righteous and outraged today.

Being righteously outraged allows me to actively avoid doing really import other stuff that I know I should really be getting on with... Blush

SemiPermanent · 04/02/2017 12:21

*important, not import Confused

becausebecausebecause · 04/02/2017 14:10

Wow Howabout I'd missed the hardtalk clip. What an absolute delusional diddy he is!

JamieXeed74 · 04/02/2017 14:16

That European super state he describes is exactly why we were right to leave. Its almost scary, seriously Europe will save the world?

boredofbrexit · 04/02/2017 14:23

That would be a refreshing change.....

CeciledeVolanges · 04/02/2017 23:03

I am quite confused by this, honestly. UK producers say they will comply with a new law about battery hens. The law comes from the EU. The solution to the fact that some EU states won't comply is to withdraw from the EU, so that UK farmers can go back to keeping battery hens totally legally and we can have eggs from places in the world where there is no welfare legislation at all?
Please note that the government could easily have addressed this by remaining in the EU and providing for a labelling or alert system, or bytaking the non compliant countries to the ECJ.
If you do have an alternative reading, please enlighten me. I'm worried about welfare standards in this country after we leave.

CeciledeVolanges · 04/02/2017 23:05

Sorry, I should have announced my arrival - pedantry police alert :) next round is on me if anyone else is still here

I had a peek at Westminster thread then rapidly realised that crushing bores was the reason I left the EU. Wow are they wordy bores...

TuckersBadLuck · 05/02/2017 08:05

Yeah, all those damn words expressing intelligent thoughts, so elitist and snowflakey of them.

IamWendy · 05/02/2017 08:34

I know because, and then they get all pissy when we don't want the pub thread turning into a solid wall of text, interspersed with demands for answers or acknowledgement that we have read their huge diatribes, plus every single link to more walls of text!

InfiniteSheldon · 05/02/2017 08:52

I thought it was interesting when a Remain poster said that the soapbox thread was the only one worth reading as it dealt with facts and this thread was all emotions and opinions. The poster said that emotions, intuition, feelings are valid and decisions should be made purely on facts. No acknowledgement that most 'facts' are someone's opinion dressed up and presented in a certain way, no understanding that emotions, opinions and intuitive behaviour has led to the great leaps and advances for wo/mankind. That our very ability to leap into the unknown and try something new with belief and faith in ourselves is what makes us amazing and ultimately successful.
