*Looking like it's going to be a teeny weeny country left for president Banks and prime minister Nuttells.

I wonder if he gets to do the executions himself?
Maybe electric chair exports will be the mainstay of the post Brexit economy.*

If this is an example of entirely rational, non hysterical hyperbole then my grasp of the English language is not what I though it was.

General Strike announced.

woman12345 · 31/01/2017 08:42

February 17th

SemiPermanent · 31/01/2017 08:42

Woman, are you aware of how our govt works?

You do realise that one MP cannot bring in a referendum, don't you?

For a ref to happen at all (as with Brexit) it needs to be voted through by a majority in parliament.

Corcory · 31/01/2017 08:58

Gosh woman, you have gotten yourself in a twist haven't you. No main political party in the UK is going to suggest a referendum on the death penalty. No one is going to take any notice of a party with 1 or even 2 MPs.
Every referendum in the UK is 'advisory' but the HOC agreed to abide by the result end of.

Have you been taking something?

woman12345 · 31/01/2017 08:59

Go to 'www.writetothem.com
And write now to your MP.
Go to 'www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-your-mp/'
and phone them now.
They are getting worried.

WrongTrouser · 31/01/2017 09:01

Plus the majority are not in favour of the death penalty

Woman, where is the link re the general strike that has been called for 17th Feb - I've looked but can't seem to find anything about one.

InformalRoman · 31/01/2017 09:02

Every referendum in the UK is 'advisory'

That's not correct - the 2011 referendum on changing to the AV system was not advisory.

WrongTrouser · 31/01/2017 09:03

Go to 'www.writetothem.com
And write now to your MP

Thanks for the reminder, my MP will be voting for A50, and I will be writing to give him my support.

I am very worried about what Trump is up to but I would feel a bit more convinced about the motivations of some of the anti-Trumpers if they could manage to make their points without reference to Brexit.

Of course some anti-Trumpets will make references to Brexit. They are inextricably linked.

How, on one hand, can you say you're very worried about what a Trump is up to, yet on the other hand be supporting a process (Brexit) which means we need to strengthen our ties with him?

woman12345 · 31/01/2017 09:08

Referenda's constitutional import is written into the terms of each individual one.

AV one was framed in specific terms, Brexit one wasn't.

^Support for the death penalty in Britain has dropped below 50% for the first time on record, an annual opinion survey says.
The NatCen British Social Attitudes Report found 48% of the 2,878 people it surveyed were in favour of capital punishment^.

Similar pre poll figures to Brexit stats.

Bearbehind · 31/01/2017 09:08
