I've only given a tenner, but there are plenty of rich people (unless it's all stealth boasting about dipique candles) here, so we should be able to help.

It's currently at 18.507k and needs 70!

bad spelling and grammar only become an issue if they make something hard to understand?

I generally do agree with this (with the proviso that you don't get to accuse others of being uneducated at the same time - my hairsplitting over "bias" was a response to hypocrisy not poor spelling).

OTOH I find the misuse of "bias" fascinating because I'm not even sure it's a "spelling error" as such; like "cuck" it's more a new usage propagated by alt-right websites and shills.

Just to lighten the tone a little here is one of Mr Farage aka Mr Toad. The captions have been mixed up, Toad is on the left, Farage on the right.

TuckersBadLuck · 11/12/2016 20:08

Parp Parp!!

IvysMum12 · 11/12/2016 20:13

Well, I thoroughly recommend the Chef's Candle. Made by Price's.

TuckersBadLuck · 11/12/2016 20:14

Hmm. I left Youtube running after the Citizen Smith clip I posted. It eventually ended up with .

Alf Garnett was meant to be an ironic character wasn't he?

TuckersBadLuck · 11/12/2016 20:23
Grin
NotDavidTennant · 11/12/2016 20:45

Everyone thought Alf Garnett was an ironic dig at a dying mindset. It turns out he was prophesy of things to come.

TuckersBadLuck · 11/12/2016 20:53

White, male, over 50, uneducated, working-class...

I've been watching it for the last half an hour or so, I can't believe he hadn't come to mind before. It's obviously too stereotypical but it is the sort of crap I hear every day now.

JustAnotherSimpleOldNumber · 11/12/2016 20:58

Tuckers

No one seems to be joining in with your attempt to have a dig.

Castelnaumansions · 11/12/2016 21:01

It was a deliberate send up of Enoch Powell too. The Spitting Image makers have said they don't think Brexit would have happened if they were still on TV. Maybe overstating it a bit, but where is political satire on TV now when we need it?

TuckersBadLuck · 11/12/2016 21:01

Sorry? Have a dig at who? Confused

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/12/2016 21:09

Oh yes because every leave voters is like that Hmm

I wonder what Farage and Trump think when they watch Alf Garnett?

amispartacus · 11/12/2016 21:18

Or Paul Dacre .......

TuckersBadLuck · 11/12/2016 21:21

I wasn't suggesting that every Leave voter is white, male, over 50, uneducated, working-class, or that every white, male, over 50, uneducated, working-class voter voted Leave.

I believe though that there was a tendency for white, male, over 50, uneducated, working-class voters to vote to leave. My own observations of people I know bear out the statistical data.

Twogoats · 11/12/2016 21:22

Oh ffs! We are attributing spelling mistakes to political beliefs now! Shock

TuckersBadLuck · 11/12/2016 21:24

'Low-grade person' presumably.

HeCantBeSerious · 11/12/2016 21:25

Quite hard to miss the correlation.

amispartacus · 11/12/2016 21:33

Actually, having heard Paul Nuttal recently, I think he'd see Alf Garnett as 'low hanging fruit' - those were the words he used.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/12/2016 21:37

Here we go again.....

The people I know that voted leave are in their 40s highly educated and not from any particular ethnicity.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/12/2016 21:38

Trotting out Alf Garnett etc is lazy stereotyping and gets people's backs upwhich I guess is what you want

amispartacus · 11/12/2016 21:40

The people I know that voted leave are in their 40s highly educated and not from any particular ethnicity

Which means nothing. I know people like that who voted Remain.

But I think that statistics show that IF you were white, male, poorly educated and were working class, then you are more likely to vote Leave.

If you took 1000 people like that, how many do you think voted Leave?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/12/2016 21:42

But I think that statistics show that IF you were white, male, poorly educated and were working class, then you are more likely to vote Leave.

Maybe.

It is the sneering, PA way if is used to generalise and put people down that is an issue.

amispartacus · 11/12/2016 21:43

Statistics

yougov.co.uk/news/2016/06/27/how-britain-voted/

The most dramatic split is along the lines of education. 70% of voters whose educational attainment is only GCSE or lower voted to Leave, while 68% of voters with a university degree voted to Remain in the EU. Those with A levels and no degree were evenly split, 50% to 50%

fakenamefornow · 11/12/2016 21:52

I think Brexit was mostly about immigration, most all Leave voters I know voted out because of immigration. I voted Remain, immigration was a big factor for me as well, I really want to retain FOM for my children. The fact that the least educated were most likely to vote Leave, I don't think they were too stupid to understand the issues, they might just have been the group most negatively affected by immigration, or that's how they felt.
