Hi Magic I feel very similar to you.

In terms of tensions spilling over, I'm wondering if the views on here and in the news tend to be a lot more polarised than the general public?

I think that amongst most people there are a lot more shades of grey and (hopefully) a willingness to see the other point of view?

I think most people just want everything to be OK, regardless of how they voted.

I hope I am right. Name calling and resentment will only lead to more entrenched views.

My main concern is the government. They are not filling me with any confidence at all.

TheMagicFarawaySleep · 25/11/2016 11:15

Little - I agree completely. The government are scaring me. They've had a long time to help the poorest people in this country, and so far they haven't. I hope that whatever deal they come to, they out the needs of the people above the needs of their party and rich mates.

I hope people aren't betrayed by the powers that be - whether our government or the EU. And if they do end up crashing out as opposed to a decent transition, I hope that support for the most needy is out in place immediately.

At least the polarising views on here mean that people are passionate about their country. I'd rather that than apathy. The silver lining in all this seems to be an increased interest in politics amongst the public.

TheMagicFarawaySleep · 25/11/2016 11:16

*out - put. Blooming iPad. It's cross because it's getting replaced on account of being knackered Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 25/11/2016 17:49

i am just marking a spot in case i need the sanctuary.

i thought this was a vote about whether you want further and further removed supergovernment or believe in keeping power and decision making as close to the stakeholders of society as possible - silly me apparently it was an all about identifying yourself as cool and intelligent or as an ignorant, geriatric racist. doh!

currently still dealing with the cognitive dissonance of what i thought the left and liberals stood for as opposed to the reality i'm seeing.

TheHoneyBadger · 25/11/2016 17:53

oh and the cognitive dissonance of realising that actually i think that if there is no nationalism there is no society and no means of defense against global capitalists who want to turn us all into indentured slaves. balancing that discovery with my prior leftist, i want to teach the world to sing, i studied social anthropology don't you know mindset is..... interesting.

TheHoneyBadger · 25/11/2016 18:00

oh and i am an absolute pariah for seeing a bright side to trumps election in the fact that there is no way TTIP or the like will get through now. also not too popular for pointing out that as likeable and media friendly and popular as obama is drone warfare has become monstrous under his watch.

i sort of think it's not that the whole world is falling to pieces suddenly as the remainers would have it but that our lazy, deluded beliefs and tribalism etc are being challenged to fuck. some people would rather chant that the earth is flat than have their identity/beliefs/perceptions wobbled.

sorry i really did mean to just mark my place and instead have spewed all this out!

InfiniteSheldon · 25/11/2016 18:10

More eloquence than spew well sais

DoctorTwo · 25/11/2016 18:33

Thanks THB for reminding me of No Conditions by Bad Brains with your comment about nationalism. HR shouting "I'm not a nationalist" (yes sire) almost made me do a solo mosh. Then I thought of my poor fucked knees... :o

MangoMoon · 25/11/2016 18:51

YY.

'People like me' as mentioned on another EU thread.

People so blinkeredly arrogant in their 'people like me do/don't ....' thought processes.

A totally alien concept to them, that across everything (EU/Brexit/Trump etc) people across all ethnicities, socioeconomic status, education level, age, geographical location etc voted as individuals and not tribally.

Plant hire companies and material suppliers are slimming down already in preparation.

Hewden has gone into receivership: www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/11/22/hewden-collapses-adminstration-warning-brexit-slowdown/

BoredofBrexit · 25/11/2016 19:40

On Fake News - Hewdens: Been losing money for years and funny enough Deloitte, they if the fake government briefing, were advising them. 'It had been working with restructuring experts at Deloitte, who were hoping to refinance the business or sell it. But talks with potential new investors, including Alchemy Partners, have not been successful, according to the report.

Hewden’s most recent accounts, covering the 12-month period to Dec 31 2014, show that the company made a pre-tax loss of £16.6m on sales of £105.9m. It notched up exceptional costs of £2.2m, attributed to “severance, depot closure costs and other restructuring”, and forked out £8.9m in interest payments during the year.'

BoredofBrexit · 25/11/2016 19:42

Evening all.
I'll have advocaat tonight, also known as a LimpDick cocktail. Cheers Nick and Tim.

InformalRoman · 25/11/2016 19:54

Not exactly fake news - you missed off the rest of your C&P:

In a statement at the end of October, the firm said: “Hewden has been impacted by market uncertainty following the vote to leave the EU. The vote has adversely affected a number of large construction and capital investment projects.

InfiniteSheldon · 25/11/2016 20:30

An earlier poster said building projects worked up to two years in advance so on that grounds Brexit won't affect building companies yet.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 25/11/2016 20:35

Company dp works for being told by all European former business contacts: no thanks, makes more sense for us to trade with Germany now. Big company, employs a lot of people (inc an awful lot of leave voters) in a very run down town. Hullo turkeys: its Christmas! Hard Christmas!

MangoMoon · 25/11/2016 20:38

What unashamed glee!

At least you're owning your nastiness instead of faux handwringing.

Makes a pleasant change from the usual caring rhetoric on these threads.

surferjet · 25/11/2016 20:40

What company is it?

OP posts:
SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 25/11/2016 21:23

It's not fucking glee: we are mortified and worried! I give less of a fuck about those who voted for this, true. remainers trying to make it work and leavers who didn't think it through are no more or less vulnerable in this instance.

I'm not saying the company's actual name, obviously.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 25/11/2016 21:25

Actually how offensively idiotic can you be: why would I be feeling glee that this company is in this situation? My partner WORKS THERE! he didn't vote for Christmas, but hey - the majority did!

InfiniteSheldon · 25/11/2016 21:32

Your post seemed pretty gleeful that leave voters would lose their jobs and now you are kicking off for being called on it. At least your original post was honest.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 25/11/2016 21:37

I cant see any glee in your post seek

Trouble is it doesnt matter what you say,

Brexit is not causing every problem we have by any stretch of the imagination...but anyone who comes on here and says "there is a problem and its due to brexit" is (and no...not everyone is doing it) being told they are being gleeful or they are mistaken

Its a shame because there should be room for discussion

InfiniteSheldon · 25/11/2016 21:40

'Hello Turkey's it's Christmas' seriously you see nothing unpleasant or gloating in that?

birdybirdywoofwoof · 25/11/2016 21:48

Wow, swinging those virtual bollocks around tonight, mango!

Sorry to hear that, seek - gutting.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 25/11/2016 21:51

infinite

Oooh now we are using unpleasant or gloating now

Well i tell you what ....pick one and i will honestly look at it again and have a little think
