But no

Still not gleeful...dont think its gloating either

Might be unpleasant...

birdybirdywoofwoof · 25/11/2016 21:53

She's bitter- why wouldn't she be?

Op, you won't get much sympathy here.

MangoMoon · 25/11/2016 22:06

Big company, employs a lot of people (inc an awful lot of leave voters) in a very run down town. Hullo turkeys: its Christmas! Hard Christmas!

Still maintain it reads as gleeful.

Perhaps it's the turkeys & Xmas line punctuated with exclamation marks.

Birdy, the difference between you and me is that I'm quite ok to use these same words in real life.
I don't feel the need for anonymity to mask who I really am.
(Further to your post to me yesterday that you don't speak to people in rl how you speak to people on anonymous forums).

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 25/11/2016 22:11

I am a lot ruder and much more opinionated in real life

I am so incredibly polite and thoughtful about how i frame my posts on here that anyone who knows me would literally laugh their arses off

I just think that you have to be more careful with the written word

birdybirdywoofwoof · 25/11/2016 22:13

Blimey I def wouldn't want to meet you in rl! Some one tells you they're partners firms in trouble you tell them about their unashamed glee and nastiness!

And I used to think you were a conciliatory kind of poster!

MangoMoon · 25/11/2016 22:19

Which is admirable rufus - you've more restraint than me!
(I mean that genuinely).

I do try to be conscious of other people both on here/FB etc - in rl it's much easier to be outspoken and opinionated I think as you can read visual cues & also your tone of voice & body language can make things sound less harsh or more kind.
The written word is difficult in that sense.

However, sometimes things grate and rankle & I won't be as thoughtful or restrained as I might.
The way I read Seek's post was perhaps loaded with my own preconceptions about her prevailing attitude to/about people who happened to vote a different way to her.
Someone else would read it differently.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 25/11/2016 22:19

There is nothing gleeful about an exclamation mark!!!!

I do love an exclamation mark

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 25/11/2016 22:21

Absolutely agree mango

it can be bloody hard work being polite mind Grin

All my mind is saying is

"FUCK OFF!!!"

Or

"CUNT!!"

I sound like father jack...in my head

MangoMoon · 25/11/2016 22:23

I sound like him out loud, not just in my head....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Liberal use of exclamations Wink)

Birdy, I'm sure we'd get on like a house on fire Grin

MangoMoon · 25/11/2016 22:28

I'm actually in a temper with myself tonight tbh.

I've taped all of 'The Missing', so I could binge watch.
I started watching it a wee while ago and realised it's not finished til this week.
I now can't stop watching and will have to wait until bloody fucking Wednesday to watch the last one.

Raging.

Does anyone really think the EU is stable? I know I wouldn't bet on it's existence 20 years from now - at least not in a successful scenario. There is so much unrest that the UK is unlikely to be the last to leave. Surely there is a risk of it collapsing. This along with threats from Turkey if they are not allowed to join and things still not going well in Greece. I understand that remainers are scared of things changing because of Brexit but I can't see a good future staying in either - just the potential of a larger burden when the whole thing falls apart.

I'll have a beer please and might nod off to sleep.

user1471448556 · 25/11/2016 22:41

strange - I think you're right to say that the EU is under some pressure, but I think the ideals of the EU project are worth upholding and fighting for - peace in a continent torn apart by wars for centuries, collaboration and helping less wealthy nations improve living standards (Ireland and Portugal have developed so much thanks to the EU), environmental laws that protect our surroundings both now and in the future. I don't see any other political unions in the world with similar aims right now.
Another issue is being surrounded by totalitarian regimes - Turkey and Russia ... and it's no surprise to hear that Russian trolls and bots have been getting fully engaged in promoting Brexit - breaking up the EU is their wet dream ... then they can get the Baltic states back for starters. Leaving is not a good idea. If the EU ends up collapsing, it will be an organic and natural event, rather than us actively choosing to reject and turn our backs on our closest neighbours and allies. I'm yet to see any benefits in leaving. I'm trying to see what the gains will be ... all I can see is losses. If I didn't have children, I guess this wouldn't be so upsetting, but it's their future that's being shafted here.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 25/11/2016 22:45

"If the EU ends up collapsing, it will be an organic and natural event, "

Maybe, but it would also be catastrophic. There wouldn't be months and years of planning and negotiations like an organised exit.

"Another issue is being surrounded by totalitarian regimes - Turkey and Russia" - are you aware Turkey is trying to join the EU? Would having this totalitarian regime with us in the EU make things better or worse?

I also think the ideal of peace exists regardless of the EU.

strangehumour · 25/11/2016 22:49

Pint finished, off to bed now. Night all.

hubris · 25/11/2016 22:52

Haven't been here for a wee while. Delighted to see a pub.

A brief foray onto the threads has reminded me of that quote: "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - you're right.”

Some are determined that Brexit will not work, not if they have anything to do with it. Until Article 50 is triggered this won't change and the psychological wound cannot start to heal over.

user1471448556 · 25/11/2016 22:57

If the EU collapses it will be negative for the UK whether we're in or out as they're our nearest neighbours and (currently and for the next 2 years in any case) our biggest trading partners. It would be catastrophic for countries like Poland and the Baltics who have Russian tanks permanently parked on their borders waiting for such an opportunity. As for Turkey joining the EU, with their Human Rights record and current attitude towards freedom of speech, they would not be allowed to join, despite Boris bizarrely being so keen to help. See Guy Verhofstadt's latest speeches on this for clarification. I agree - the idea of peace exists as its own entity and it was always one of the central aims of the EU - something that my ancestors fought for and something we should fight to retain.

Love your post user.

winterisnigh · 26/11/2016 10:49

Good morning all, what a beautiful crisp sunny morning it is.

Have not been in for a while, place looks good surfer. Just having a read back but wanted to reply to USER comments on the EU.

Remain campaign was project Fear for a reason. That reason is - there is nothing they could point out about the EU as is - that was worth selling to the people of the UK.

Nothing. If the EU was such a wonderful place it would speak for itself. I voted leave for my DC because I see the EU and our place in it - shafting my DC future. Political freedom is all and we are not turning our backs on Europe, and if Putin kicks off - who has the strongest army to go and shore up other countries who don't put the required money into their own protection?

winterisnigh · 26/11/2016 10:51

Strange I totally agree that peace has existed regardless of the EU, which country in Eu had appetite for war after WWII for goodness sake Shock

winterisnigh · 26/11/2016 10:55

i thought this was a vote about whether you want further and further removed supergovernment or believe in keeping power and decision making as close to the stakeholders of society as possible

^^ Yes!!

actually i think that if there is no nationalism there is no society and no means of defense against global capitalists who want to turn us all into indentured slaves

Yes !!!

i sort of think it's not that the whole world is falling to pieces suddenly as the remainers would have it but that our lazy, deluded beliefs and tribalism etc are being challenged to fuck. some people would rather chant that the earth is flat than have their identity/beliefs/perceptions wobbled

Yes yes yes Honey Grin

surferjet · 26/11/2016 11:00

Morning winterisnigh I'm not on here much atm, run out of things to say tbh & find myself reading the same old stuff over & over. I've seen literally 100's of posts exactly like users - I just roll my eyes now.

Peaceful times? Apart from when ISIS are blowing up half of Europe.
I'm more scared of travelling to Europe now than i was 10 years ago.

The EU is shite. That's why the fuckers running it are making things difficult for us. They don't want Brexit to be a success, because if it is other countries will follow.

Thank you for your response to that post. I think such posters like to wriggle out of the poor voting leave though by calling them turkeys voting for Christmas then implying we is too thick to know what we are voting for
One tries to point out many poor peoples lives were made much worse by the EU eg Frank Field - Birkenhead - vote leave for the poor have compassion and we are told FF is a vile racist and that the stats show not a single migrant moved to his area.

Maybe a bingo card needed for the pub on all the reasons some remain voters wriggle on the hook of the poor voting leave. Hmm

Also astonishing the correlation between poor + thick/un educated to so many remain voters and they mention care in the same sentence. Confused
