And FrankGrimes's post is exactly why I don't tend towards sharing my personal experiences or thoughts on these threads.

Can always guarantee someone will pop by and ridicule.
Anonymity on the internet makes for some brave souls, swinging their virtual bollocks around.

surfer and southall you can check a car's tax status online at DVLA and report those who haven't paid. I thought DVLA dealt with it.

Evening Folks.

Well hasn't it been a great couple of days?

UK has fastest rate of growth in G7, PMI good, employment at an all time high, consumer spending growing at the fastest rate in ten years, interest rates remain low, housing market stable, pound holding, Schultz on his way home, dollar soaring.

Meanwhile the ECB warns that the Eurozone instability risk has grown and global political shifts could compound existing vulnerabilities to rising interest rates and revive worries about Eurozones weaker economies.

Yes, that would be the same Eurozone that some think will be saving us from ourselves.
And according to a Gallup Europe poll (poll, I know!) in September, only 30% viewed the EU positively compared to 70% 20 years ago and concluded 'the European project has never in its history been as unpopular'.

(Except in certain metropolitan areas in the U.K. And Scotland.)

A weeks a long time in the Brexit Arms.

Pint of Old Peculiar please.

TuckersBadLuck · 24/11/2016 21:44

Bored would you like a bucket of cold water with that drink?

Brexit hasn't happened yet, hence no real problems yet. And the the only reason the pound is 'holding' is because of the small boost it was given when the High Court ruled that article 50 couldn't be triggered without a vote in Parliament. The (maybe 10%) chance that Brexit will be blocked by either Westminster or Holyrood is enough to keep the £ around 10-15% higher than it would otherwise be.

And of course everyday consumer spending is fine because problems haven't started to feed through yet. Price rises are being held back until after Christmas. Last year's long-term projects are still in progress, so there's still plenty of work going on.

Speak to people in the construction industry though, particularly those involved in the tendering and planning processes, and it's very clear there's going to be a construction-led slump 2017-18. Plant hire companies and material suppliers are slimming down already in preparation.

Maybe we need to build a wall...

BoredofBrexit · 24/11/2016 22:01

Funny that, I'm in that sector. Central London. Not seeing any of that.

InfiniteSheldon · 24/11/2016 22:04

Just got in from work, wish someone would tell my bank account I'm part of the rich elite Hmm

Apologies for my spelling Seek I'm dyslexic and spellcheck couldn't help me with that one thank you for pointing it out Ill sit in the corner with my dances that on for five minutes shall I?

Listened to a great interview 're the increased R and D funding for the science community all sounds very positive despite the Radio 4 presenter desperately trying to put an anti Brexit spin on it. Sooner we stop paying into the EU the better.

TuckersBadLuck · 24/11/2016 22:07

Funny that, my clients in the sector, throughout the UK (and including London), are reporting prospects for future work drying up rapidly. I'm talking major projects though, including civils, , not loft extensions.

I think there was a hint of trying to mitigate the problem in the Autumn Statement, nowhere near enough though.

InfiniteSheldon · 24/11/2016 22:08

Tucker I'm very surprised by that all our builder friends are swamped with work, dh has been helping out labouring with a couple of local firms he's got more work than he can manage as has my son in law who runs a building firm. The housing market has slowed down lately but that's probably a good thing in the SE house prices rises are insane round here.

InfiniteSheldon · 24/11/2016 22:09

*dunces hat Wink

BoredofBrexit · 24/11/2016 22:11

GrinYou don't get many loft conversions in Mayfair.

TuckersBadLuck · 24/11/2016 22:19

As I said I'm talking major projects though, including civils, , not loft extensions.

Anything still happening now was approved 2+ years ago. Anything about to happen was approved last year. New prospects/contracts for this time next year and beyond are apparently just not there, not in the UK anyway. Resources are being switched to non-UK work - that won't help most of the 'on site' people or the supply-chain though.

Still, if your Polish builder is still busy on extensions for the next couple of months things must be OK.

BoredofBrexit · 24/11/2016 22:28

Things are great and we love Polish builders in this pub.

MangoMoon · 24/11/2016 23:34

Wee Tim Farron gets right on my wick with his Bremaining antics, but I'm enjoying him on QT tonight - I'm thawing toward him.

BoredofBrexit · 24/11/2016 23:41

surferjet · 25/11/2016 07:04

C4 news is the worst. Krishnan Guru-Murthy & Jon Snow are in physical pain whenever they report on Nigel Farage's success.

Hi, is it ok if I come in please?

I'm scared, really scared about what it happening to us all. It's like the whole pick-a-team thing for the referendum is keeping on going, even though the vote is over. Our country seems to be turning into an us and them type of place, whereas before, people could seem to agree to disagree about political things.

I voted remain, but accept that the vote was to leave, and so I think we should. I'm glad it's going through parliament (if that appeal thingy fails), just because I don't want any of us to be shafted by sneaky deals going on behind closed doors - that's kind of an issue I did have with the EU to be honest.

What I'm scared about, is what if politicians put their own careers above the country in getting the best deal for us? And what if Scotland or NI do get the chance to veto it? Will there then be uproar on the streets? And it will make a mockery of the whole thing - completely messing up a democratic vote.

I wish the powers that be had sorted out all this legal stuff before putting it to the vote, to make sure that the decision could go through smoothly, instead of Brexit turning into a bit of a political soap opera.

And we don't all think that people that voted leave are stupid or racist. I think the remain campaign tried to make Brexiteers out to be those things, so that we'd vote remain, so that we couldn't be accused of those things. Badly worded but I hope you know what I mean.

I have really tried to understand the leave arguments, and I can now see that there were very good reasons to leave, and also good reasons to stay too. I do think the EU is about to implode so better to be on the outside pissing in, than in the midst of the fire. But I'll miss freedom of movement - we had plans to take a while off work, and go and live in Italy for a while and learn the language. So sad because we might not be able to go for as long as we wanted to.

Does anyone think that tensions on both sides might spill over? There seems to be such resentment and name calling. And we're better than that in this country. So what's going on do you think?

Oops, sorry for essay Blush

TheMagicFarawaySleep · 25/11/2016 07:37

Oh, but if it turns out that coming out of the EU gives more people jobs, then I will be happy to forgo our Italy life and freedom of movement.

InfiniteSheldon · 25/11/2016 07:48

Welcome but early for Winebut Brew may be?
