Brexit

Does anyone else sense a change of mood re Brexit?

I was rather astounded following the referendum that politicians of all shades weren't making noises about Brexit needing parliamentary scrutiny etc., but at last - after almost four months - it's as if people are waking up, noticing the shambles and saying "Hang on a minute... I'm not sure we should be doing this..." It was shocking to see the lack of reaction to the xenophobia and the way politicians of all shades seemed to be saying we had to blindly obey the very slim majority. The lack of disgust expressed by the press/politicians about the barefaced lies used by the Leave campaign (not to mention that poster) was also mind-blowing.

Has anyone else noticed a change in the air? I'm starting to feel slightly hopeful for the first time since 24th June that the country isn't just going to jump off a cliff in order to follow 'the will of the people'.

Anyone else, or am I deluded?

Russia Today and Daily Hate are quite dodgy, I am not going to go there.
"Cologne puts Germany’s ‘lying press’ on defensive". You googled and pasted without reading again... lazy and zero points for that!

Bearbehind · 21/10/2016 20:31

100% cast-iron bolleaux

Well it's not is it, because you continue to post but won't actually answer the questions asked.

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 20:32

Baddres: see that's where we differ. I don't feel contempt for people who have different opinions to me. I think we probably all want the same good things for people, but see different paths as the route to them.

I don't despise people with different opinions. Why do you? You have no idea what has led them to their decision.

jaws5 · 21/10/2016 20:32

plus, ww you are conveniently ignoring all the links about the many countries who think UK is a xenophobic little island, don't you care?

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 20:33

Yes it's utter bolleaux, and I continue to post because you continue to post lies and I don't want them to stand.

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 20:33

I addressed them jaws5 - in a post to which you responded.

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 20:34

Russia Today and Daily Hate are the messengers. Is the man lying? The former TV head?

It's actually proof of media bias that only RT and the DM print what he said.

Mistigri · 21/10/2016 20:35

I think that if you want to make a very strong claim about foreign media, then you need to at minimum have some exposure to that media in the original language. RT and the Daily Mail are not evidence.

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 20:35

Misti: read my post above.

jaws5 · 21/10/2016 20:39

"I addressed them jaws5 - in a post to which you responded"
No, you ignored the evidence that proof the shameful reputation of UK all over the world by spouting some freshly googled opinion on the German press.

funnyandwittyusername · 21/10/2016 20:39

By why should we care what other countries think jaws? Do you honestly think we used to be respected?

Mistigri · 21/10/2016 20:41

WW Sie haben keine Ahnung, was Sie reden, wie üblich.

jaws5 · 21/10/2016 20:41

By why should we care what other countries think jaws? Do you honestly think we used to be respected?

YES! and that kind of defensive, isolationist, paranoid and arrogant response reminds me of very unsavoury regimes.

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 20:42

I'm not surprised there's a xenophobia narrative. After all, it's strong enough here. Alternative narratives are not encouraged in the establishment media, here or abroad.

Misti: Sie auch nicht

Badders123 · 21/10/2016 20:43

Nah
Farage has praised trump - well until the sun criticised trump for his vile comments on women, then he back tracked -interesting!
Putin thinks farage is great and that the U.K. leaving the EU is a good idea

^ read that last one again

Yeah

I know who I align myself with - and it isn't them.

jaws5 · 21/10/2016 20:43

WW, no tienes ni idea de lo que dices, pero la ignorancia da valor.

Badders123 · 21/10/2016 20:43

...and of course marine le pen thinks Nigel is the best thing since....croissant?

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 20:44

L'ignorance ne donne aucune valeur à quoi que ce soit, mais une insulte

jaws5 · 21/10/2016 20:44

Putin thinks farage is great and that the U.K. leaving the EU is a good idea
and it is very likely that Putin's regime has been financing UKIP...

Peregrina · 21/10/2016 20:45

I think our reputation abroad was probably mixed. I can remember when I started travelling in the early 1970s feeling a little shocked to find that the UK wasn't universally liked. It wasn't the story we had been told. But then, the US was disliked even more.

jaws5 · 21/10/2016 20:47

come on WW, some google translate in Spanish now! Grin

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 20:49

at least you crack someone up

Mistigri · 21/10/2016 20:50

Why is your French sentence cut off half way through Ww

The difference between us is that I wouldn't make any claims about something I know nothing about (German media). You're happy to make some really big claims about censorship based on the say-so of one person reported in some dodgy english language media. I'd happily discuss censorship (or lack of it) in the French press since I know enough about it to have an informed opinion.

jaws5 · 21/10/2016 20:50

As an European, UK was seen as a great, welcoming place for anyone creative, now creative people are going. Except many of us have children here who are settled and happy in a multicultural city, and I want to fight for them to keep that.

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 20:51

I didn't make the claims - the former head of a german tv station did.

Do you think he's lying.
