THE BREXIT FALLOUT CONTINUES - THREAD NINE

The Tories have settled their scores and May is now PM.
Is it May's Day or May Day for the people?

After careful consideration I thought the best way to sum up the Labour Contest was in one simple picture. May Day, might also be appropriate here too.

Things are moving fast, so hold on tight for the Brexit Ride

Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Am wondering if there may be a little truth in the canary article but using trolling to MP's where they can identify they are party members - not as hard as you think

Brexit. From start to finish. The commitment bit.

Interesting point about having the Will and having the Capacity. It made me think of the post war settlement, especially the founding of the NHS. The Will to change was already there, and the Capacity to do it followed.

However, there was a cross-party wartime coalition and the architects of the new Welfare State had been gaining experience and honing their policies during the war years, e.g. Attlee was Deputy PM and basically responsible for home affairs while Churchill did the Foreign policy stuff. So in a sense, the capacity was partly there also. Contrast this with now, and no one has a clue as to what sort of Brexit they want, never mind the staff to see it through.

Ha. Johnson got a proper booing from some of the people inside the French embassy. He looked a bit surprised.

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 19:56

I think Johnson might be in for a reality check.

Peregrina · 14/07/2016 19:59

I laughed to hear Johnson publicly called a Liar by the French. No more than he deserved for landing the country in the shit like he did.

SwedishEdith · 14/07/2016 20:10

Gleb is on TV. For the first time in weeks, I'm distracted from the Referendum

TheBathroomSink · 14/07/2016 20:13

Lol, swedish. I did notice that the BBC snuck out the news of Uncle Len's retirement after this series yesterday, which is surely a masterclass in burying bad news!

officerhinrika · 14/07/2016 20:22

Off the point, but it has just occurred to me that May was Home Secretary when the Govt Forensic Science Service was closed down. That has been a disaster, botched privatisation with real service implications, to the extent that they are now thinking about having to set it back up again.
There's been all sorts of delays and problems with prosecutions and I could weep to think about the skills and experience that was dispersed. Not quite such a safe pair of hands after all.

Globetrotter100 · 14/07/2016 20:29

Red 19.51 really excellent article, thank you

flippinada · 14/07/2016 20:40

That's a fair point actually Showme!

Channel 4 - How do the Tories feel about the new cabinet? It would seem that its not been well received and there is dissent in the ranks already...

A VERY interest read.

The word 'vendetta' is used...

blogs.channel4.com/cathy-newman-blog/labour-leadership-stand-intimidation-abuse/1518

Channel 4 are also doing a piece on the Labour Party and abuse.

Owen Jones (the Journalist) has managed to also get in the cross fire of it all, by sending text messages to crossfire by sending text messages and saying he is an activist, which some other journalists feel is a conflict of interests with his job as a journalist.

Again worth a read.

Now why am I not upset about Gove getting a telling off from Theresa May and having to serve a stint on the backbenches?

Will he sit as far away from Cameron as he can?
BTW is his wife still writing in the DM?

Wordsaremything · 14/07/2016 20:54

To be fair to the cat who posted that excellent brexit nightmare article first Grin

OppositeOfGenius · 14/07/2016 20:58

We should collectively vow to just do this from now on to Nigel Farage, I love it!

Guy talks over Nigel with megaphone

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 21:01

Sarah Vine's column is on Thursdays. She missed one because she was supposed to be supporting her husband's leadership bit.

However, looking at the DM website, it seems she has not done one since 29th June - so not one today either.

I wonder if it was her decision or Dacre's decision...

OP posts:
squoosh · 14/07/2016 21:03

I assumed Dacre had given her the shoves after she name checked him in the 'leaked' email. I can't see him having taken kindly to that.

SwedishEdith · 14/07/2016 21:11

EU Council President Donald Tusk: "We cannot let Britain profit from Brexit, as that would be lethal for the EU".

Back to reality

HemanOrSheRa · 14/07/2016 21:13

Owen Jones has nothing to say that I want to hear, after the Simon Danczuk porn business.

squoosh · 14/07/2016 21:14

Red that Ian Dunt post you linked to is fantastic. Really concise..........and really scary.

HemanOrSheRa · 14/07/2016 21:19

Did you go to the meeting Showme?

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 21:22

Let's be clear why Brexiters are in a rush. When people see the reality - high immigration, job losses, NHS cuts - they won't stand for it.
