THE BREXIT FALLOUT CONTINUES - THREAD NINE

The Tories have settled their scores and May is now PM.
Is it May's Day or May Day for the people?

After careful consideration I thought the best way to sum up the Labour Contest was in one simple picture. May Day, might also be appropriate here too.

Things are moving fast, so hold on tight for the Brexit Ride

Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Right back at you Red Flowers

I'm very glad you do have the energy for it Red. Thank you. I agree that truth is important.

For my part, I was bought up in a politically engaged family, to care about others and do good where you can. I just can't switch that off. Sometimes I envy people who have the ability not to care and live in a bubble..only sometimes though and very rarely.

Maybe you should go in to politics. I mean that as a compliment!

Where do I get the energy?

From days like today.
I was caught up in an IRA bombing in my teens.
The memory and all that it taught me never leaves.
When I see the news, it is never something that happens to other people and is far away for that reason.
The headlines are always just a moment away from your backyard.

I learnt the need to include and to listen as best you can.
Despite all my issues, its been the one force that I come back to.
Time and time again.
Always.
'The Truth' that humanity is fragile, and needs to be treasured, nurtured, appreciated and never taken for granted. If that opportunity is presented to share that, take the chance and run with it as far as you possibly can.
It is precious. Life is precious.
'The Truth' rings through time. Through languages. Through culture and religion.

Liberté Égalité Fraternité
Always.

Story about Labour "barring" people from voting if use “traitor”, “scab” or “scum”. Can see why.

"The Labour Procedures Committee have reportedly announced that anyone who uses the words “traitor”, “scab” or “scum” in relation to another member of the party, will automatically be barred from having a vote in the leadership election.

Reading the comments below is a good example of a kind of siege mentality. A woman on the news last night referred to a "right wing coop". That must have come from only reading about this stuff online.

Peregrina Creating the NHS in 1947 was actually far simpler than disentangling ourselves from the EU would be:
To start with, it just involved the UK - we didn't have to have unanimous agreement from 27 other countries plus EFTA and follow their timetable.
We were creating something new, rather than trying to reverse 40 years existing work

There are 2 very dangerous problems wrt Brexit:

  1. The serious damage to UK trade, economy, jobs, investment, tax income, living standards etc
  2. Convincing the Leavers when it happens that it is NOT because of sabotage by Remainers

Both have potential to create great social unrest.

EEA should reduce damage from 1) to merely awful, hopefully less than the 2008 financial crash
I don't want to think much about the consequences of the WTO option, because I class it as "aiming for Greece"

TM putting Leave leaders 100% in charge of Brexit is our best chance of avoiding 2)

I like the idea that Nicky Morgan was surprised to be sacked from Education, like she was doing a good job or something. She seems to have a complete lack of self-awareness like when she said she was considering standing for PM. Who did you think would vote for you, Nicky?

Let's be clear why Brexiters are in a rush. When people see the reality - high immigration, job losses, NHS cuts - they won't stand for it.

Sarah Vine's column is on Thursdays. She missed one because she was supposed to be supporting her husband's leadership bit.

However, looking at the DM website, it seems she has not done one since 29th June - so not one today either.

I wonder if it was her decision or Dacre's decision...
