THE BREXIT FALLOUT CONTINUES - THREAD NINE

The Tories have settled their scores and May is now PM.
Is it May's Day or May Day for the people?

After careful consideration I thought the best way to sum up the Labour Contest was in one simple picture. May Day, might also be appropriate here too.

Things are moving fast, so hold on tight for the Brexit Ride

Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Re choice and control, I have not managed to get to the sources, but an eminent legal academic has talked about what these concepts seem to mean within social care, and the subtle shifting/redefining of the roles of state and citizen: eg www.lukeclements.co.uk/resources-index/files/PDF%2002.pdf or www.lukeclements.co.uk/resources-index/files/PDF%2006.pdf

Which cabinet jobs are left? Culture Secretary, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Scottish and Welsh Secretaries are yet to be allocated, says BBC political correspondent Vicki Young outside Downing Street.

GingerIvy · 14/07/2016 15:50

BREAKING: Unite, Labour's largest affiliate, votes to support mandatory re-selection of MPs.

This is important, getting rid of it was seen as a big step forward in detoxifying Labour.

CaveMum · 14/07/2016 15:57

I read that as Karen Brady to start with Grin

Well, Red she could just talk herself out of a job, eh? Bet she won't be so hasty to get rid now.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/07/2016 16:00

red I think TM is genuinely giving Leavers their dream Brexit team - no Remainers to get in their way - to get the best possible deal.
The 3 Brexiteers are highly motivated to show if possible that they didn't lead the country down a dark alley.

Leavers were very worried about a Remainer PM and it is the only way to prove to the electorate that she has accepted the vote for Brexit.
However, it means that if the eventual Brexit deal is far from the unicorn version - i.e. with EU immigration basically unchanged - she also has the best team to convince most people it wasn't all just a stitchup, but the best deal available.

Showmethewaytogohome · 14/07/2016 16:03

Thebathroom

I'm not sure that means anything does it - they are not the whole of the TUC. Although this is what I am worried about - the unions ripping themselves apart - I doubt if this went OMOV - it looks like just the delegates

Bloody fools - dangerous game they are playing

TheBathroomSink · 14/07/2016 16:04

Ginger it used to mean that every Labour MP had to basically apply for the backing of their CLP each year to continue representing the constituency. If the CLP didn't like them, they could nominate someone else, I think. It was a bit before my time, but they were talking about it on Newsnight the other night as having been a good thing to get rid of, as it was essentially checking that every MP was still 'on message'

This here is critical of the process but explains the mechanism well I think

GingerIvy · 14/07/2016 16:05

But would that allow members of Momentum more chance to interfere?

Showmethewaytogohome · 14/07/2016 16:06

Also Unite can go play. They are not 'protecting' the constituents. They have nothing to do with them. But they know who is taking over the CLP's
