THE BREXIT FALLOUT CONTINUES - THREAD NINE

The Tories have settled their scores and May is now PM.
Is it May's Day or May Day for the people?

After careful consideration I thought the best way to sum up the Labour Contest was in one simple picture. May Day, might also be appropriate here too.

Things are moving fast, so hold on tight for the Brexit Ride

Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

BigChoc, by that token it does give room to say that Brexit is also not a done deal.

I find it, hmmm I dunno. I don't know what to make of it.

Based on new Labour leadership rules, I currently expect reduced victory for Corbyn.

One more thing about our new @DFID_UK supremo: she supports the reintroduction of the death penalty. Horrific...

www.buzzfeed.com/jimwaterson/new-international-development-secretary-called-for-departmen?utm_term=.feop1neZv#.uga7eNyBP

In 2013, she told the Daily Telegraph the government should consider scrapping DfID and replacing it with a new department to help businesses invest in the developing world.

She told the newspaper at the time: “A long-term strategic assessment is required, including the consideration to replace DfID with a Department for International Trade and Development

And now we appear to have both... Oh

Ginger, if it is adopted. It is only, as show says one union at the moment, but it is indicative of the direction they are trying to push, and as show said earlier, in some unions there may be a disconnect between the union leadership and the members.

It may come to nothing, but it shows that there are truly people wanting to take Labour back to the 1970s.

And I didn't mean each year before, I meant each election. Typing too fast, apologies.

Showmethewaytogohome · 14/07/2016 16:18

This is what JC said about re -selection last year ......before he won

^"he will not introduce mandatory reselection" if elected and will not not endorse moves to "depose sitting MPs" (for instance through the use of "trigger ballots"). The announcement is a signal that Corbyn would seek unity, rather than 1980s-style division. But the bigger question of how MPs relate to a party that has been fundamentally changed by the leadership election remains. In an essay in a new Fabian Society pamphlet, Corbyn proposes giving members far greater influence over policy.

"We cannot simply make policy at party conference once a year," he writes. "We need to review our policy-making process to ensure that it is inclusive, accessible, participatory and able to take democratic decisions quickly." But how he will manage a PLP that disagrees with so many of the policy stances he has taken (whether endorsed by members or not) remains an open question^

Thrilled with every appointment Not one made bcse once at school /uni/ or shared a flat with the PM. A cabinet of sheer talent

TheBathroomSink · 14/07/2016 16:19

Yvette Cooper on TV. Says there should be a single unity candidate. She won't back either one until they sort themselves out and decide who it will be.

Says Corbyn not getting his act together and challenging May. Whole party should them come together behind them and take on the Tories.

At least she's attempting to provide some opposition.

GingerIvy · 14/07/2016 16:19

Bathroom Okay, thanks for explaining that.

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 16:19

I think I can sum up the Cabinet, as one great big sick joke.

Unless you are NI.

We can all see how well that's working out, can't we?

Still no job for Matt Hancock, arch-Osborneite who backed May early.

HalleLouja · 14/07/2016 16:23

Ginger What??????? He is now saying we shouldn't leave the EU??

LineyReborn · 14/07/2016 16:24

That quote from BJ is extraordinary, even for him.

CaveMum · 14/07/2016 16:24

GingerIvy Matt Hancock used to be my local MP before we moved across the boundary line. He's quite well liked around here, though obviously ambitious.

GingerIvy · 14/07/2016 16:24

Yep. Things that make you go "hmmmm...." Confused

So Patel wanted to abolish DfID, Green opposed NMW, Johnson insults other countries & Hunt stays at health. Reshuffle is certainly 'bold'

WTF is going on?!

merrymouse · 14/07/2016 16:27

Maybe he just means that the UK is geographically in Europe and the EU isn't Europe? Maybe this is the part of the Brexit view that the EU is on its last legs anyway?
