THE BREXIT FALLOUT CONTINUES - THREAD NINE

The Tories have settled their scores and May is now PM.
Is it May's Day or May Day for the people?

After careful consideration I thought the best way to sum up the Labour Contest was in one simple picture. May Day, might also be appropriate here too.

----------------

Things are moving fast, so hold on tight for the Brexit Ride

Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Thebathroom - yes I do. With OMOV it really doesn't matter what the exs think .Some of them are so pro JC they aren't really thinking that it is their job to reflect their members views rather than to tell them

Currently as of a poll 3 days ago 45% believed JC should step down. 38% said they would vote for him and 35% said they would not (an awful lot of non committals there)

That was before the NEC meeting, accusations of intimation etc. As time goes on I think it will only go south for JC. Unless he turns water into wine I can't see how it could improve. There are around 150,000 union members - less than half as many as non union but still significant It will be very interesting to see. So the hard core momentum types may insist he is the saviour but if there is one unifying candidate against him even now they could have a chance with the union vote.

PS Many Corbynites have said the poll is incorrect

One of the themes running through No 10 statement & reshuffle, is May trying to rid Tories of party of the rich tag t.co/KwVUdRlFiD

Those Cameroons who, wrongly, saw Theresa May as the continuity candidate getting increasingly irritated now. Not happy about No10 clear out

Re: health, a new minister would imply a new policy. I don't know May is that bothered about the NHS at the moment. (Nicky Morgan wasn't really doing much so replacing her doesn't make much difference.)

Will departments like health and education just be treading water?

TheBathroomSink · 14/07/2016 13:20

I reckon Villiers got offered DCMS. Maybe not if Priti Patel gets it, but something on that level.

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 13:21

More Labour secret ballots!!!

The thought is that the best chance for those wanting to defeat Mr Corbyn in a vote of party members and supporters is to have just the one challenger. The question is whether Eagle and Smith can decide which of them that challenger will be.

One answer may come next week - BBC deputy political editor John Pienaar says a secret ballot is expected on Monday after Parliamentary Labour Party hustings with the two leadership candidates. (Jeremy Corbyn is not expected to speak).

Oh Excited....Keir Starmer is on the Labour Party 2016 leadership wiki as a 'potential' stander

I know it's only wikibollocks but interesting that he is on there. Come on Keir!!!!!!

TheBathroomSink · 14/07/2016 13:22

btw I am aware that I have now had approximately 4 SoS for DCMS in the last 12 hours, but it's the first 'less prestigious' job I think of, and it's easiest to type!!

merry Education has just taken back universities, which is going to be important re EU funding, and skills, which ties in to her 'Opportunites for All' thing, so I think she needs someone she can trust there, doesn't look like treading water to me.

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 13:23

Greyling ??? Reformed Business Dept???

Or Deputy PM?

OP posts:
Showmethewaytogohome · 14/07/2016 13:24

Also neither Keir Starmer and Tom Watson have officially backed any candidate yet....hhmmmmm

merrymouse · 14/07/2016 13:24

As time goes on I think it will only go south for JC

Agree, mainly because his lack of skill/interest in leading and managing will lead to frustration amongst his supporters, once they are no longer unified by 'saving jeremy'.

squoosh · 14/07/2016 13:25

Keir Starmer is on the Labour Party 2016 leadership wiki as a 'potential' stander

Oh good!

(and a shallow note 'oh good, he's hot')

flippinada · 14/07/2016 13:26

I can't find the words to describe what a hateful piece of work Mensch is.

Who the hell DOES that?!

I hope someone in the media picks up that tweet and runs with it.

flippinada · 14/07/2016 13:26

Good news about Keir Starmer. I like him.

merrymouse · 14/07/2016 13:26

Yes bathroom, but that is more crisis management than Blair's 'education, education, education' or free schools.

squoosh · 14/07/2016 13:26

He'll be dashing off a few letters that begin 'about that silly comment I made......'

Yeah as "a father waits for his son" he posts a vile gloating political tweet. @moansar the second

Showmethewaytogohome · 14/07/2016 13:27

squoosh I know. It is shallow but and but I am too. On a serious note he could really challenge TM. He's not a 'personality' as such either and knows his beewax.

TheBathroomSink · 14/07/2016 13:28

Show - the Cobynites were telling a guy from a polling company that he didn't understand his own poll earlier. Oh, and that all the polling companies were biased against Corbyn so they were irrelevant in their bubble anyway.

Are the union bosses seeing this as some sort of last hurrah for them, maybe? I suppose they are getting to go to lots of rallies at the moment, must be nice for them...

squoosh · 14/07/2016 13:28

And this

The Westminster Hunger Games Contines. May Day! May Day!
TheBathroomSink · 14/07/2016 13:29

Louise Mensch should take a long break from twitter. About three years should do it.

I could totally go for Keir Starmer.

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 13:29

And another one:
Louise Mensch ‏@LouiseMensch · 1m1 minute ago

Louise Mensch Retweeted Jonathan Bartley
Loathsome scumbag political post. Delighted Bartley gets his comeuppance over Hunt :)

Now there was me thinking his tweet was just an observation rather than a political comment himself.

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 14/07/2016 13:30

Hunt surely still in post to see the contract stuff through to conclusion: a new person at the table would give the BMA the opportunity to try to start all over, and whatever your position on it, I think everyone would agree it just needs to be finished.

Villiers alternative... DCMS not what it used to be, but still generally a step up from NI. Wales, perhaps? Or Scotland? Or possibly a junior minister role in one of the big departments

MerryMarigold · 14/07/2016 13:31

I don't think it will go south for jeremy. I think parliament and mn is massively or if touch with what ordinary people feel. Jc stands more for that than anyone else. So many of my fb friends whose politics I never even knew (ie. Not loud n proud labour types) are pro JC. Don't think they are members though. Still... I think he has grassroots support.

OlennasWimple · 14/07/2016 13:31

Is Mensch on glue??
