THE BREXIT FALLOUT CONTINUES - THREAD NINE

The Tories have settled their scores and May is now PM.
Is it May's Day or May Day for the people?

After careful consideration I thought the best way to sum up the Labour Contest was in one simple picture. May Day, might also be appropriate here too.

----------------

Things are moving fast, so hold on tight for the Brexit Ride

Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Leader of Fire Brigades Union harping on about how his executive committee all support JC and the CLP's support him. Didn't really have an argument against the reasoning of stopping full membership for £3 members less than 6 months when challenged that it is to validate members to ensure they support the values of the Labour party

I have said this before but I think this will bite some unions in the arse - they seem to have forgotten it is one member one vote (OMOV) and no longer block - so it doesn't matter what their executive think. This could cause awful damage to the unions if their executives are seen as out of step with their members.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/07/2016 12:58

Well I think the Hunt, is her first TOUGH SHIT to leave voters...

I don't really see it like that. We all know what the majority of leavers concern was. And it wasn't democracy/sovereignty/the NHS/The norwegian way - whatever they pretend on Mumsnet.

"Boris? Hunt? Prime Minister, you really have to stop using your appointments to troll the Left". "Sorry. Couldn't resist".

TheBathroomSink · 14/07/2016 13:01

Show - do you think this decision is going to cause lots of problems? It seems like the union leaders in general might be keener than the majority of their members.

Jeremy Hunt's shock reappointment is like Glenn Close in the final moments of Fatal Attraction.

And Mensch has outdone herself by saying this to someone who hadn't even put her on the message.

I agree. And they'll be delighted by this guy having such a key role...

Louise Mensch has proved herself to be a complete fuckwit with that tweet. It's not like the original was even directed at her. She's just being a bitch.

OppositeOfGenius · 14/07/2016 13:05

What the FUCK is Mensch doing? Mocking hospital patients???? Shock

BigChocFrenzy · 14/07/2016 13:06

Gordon Lynch's article recommending a split - basically into hard left Labour protest and the democratic left - makes sense.
He has highlighted the major difference between now and the 1980s ( which I remember well):
this time the hard left have widespread support in the trade unions and the membership.

Basically, Momentum & their allies have either won or made such advances that fighting them would mean decimating and lobotomising Labour for the next 20 years.

Unless JC is defeated in the leadership election - the absolute last chance - I think the country would be better off if Labour split.

If Chris Grayling gets the new mega-department, we'd all better hope he's not as useless as he appears.

If he gets DCMS he probably is that useless.

prettybird · 14/07/2016 13:07

Lineyreborn: The Guardian education editor obviously hasn't seen NM's terrible performances on MN and the scathing responses to her.

.....I don't think you could even claim them as "performances" as she just posted and ran got torn to shreds Wink

TheBathroomSink · 14/07/2016 13:07

Worse opposite, the parents of sick children.

It is something of a new low, even for her.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 14/07/2016 13:08

Can't believe that Mensch tweet!

OppositeOfGenius · 14/07/2016 13:09

TM should fire the fucking pair of them for that little display of horror.

She's just deleted the tweet!

OppositeOfGenius · 14/07/2016 13:11

Or has she? It's vanished from my view but someone else just RT'd it with a comment though. Ignore me, something weird's clearly happening...

Helmetbymidnight · 14/07/2016 13:11

What the FUCK is Mensch doing? Mocking hospital patients???? shock

Wow indeed. Who does that??!!!

prettybird · 14/07/2016 13:11

Surely she should know by now that you can't just "delete" a tweet.

FFS - we even teach out children to be careful; that what goes on the Internet, stays on the Internet.

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 13:11

No one announced for Scotland nor NI yet? Interesting.

Leave won because of immigration. It was reason #1 or #2 for most Leavers
The NHS was just a convenient excuse for Leavers embarassed to say this
Hence the need for a Brexit team to hunt unicorns first, before looking for a more realistic Brexit deal.

The NHS lie was exposed - and basically admitted by Leave leaders - within a couple of days.
It didn't significantly dampen the happiness of the Leavers, other than realising their leaders were liars.

As with @Jeremy_Hunt, it's been interesting how much pre-shuffle speculation has been wrong. The May operation very un-leaky (so far).

This is a good point, as is the fact that she has removed the three people closest to Murdoch.

This is nice:

Faisal Islam ✔ ‎@faisalislam

Half the Vote Leave Cabinet 6 havent made it back into Cabinet: Villiers, Whittingdale, Gove

Guardian then say:
Islam may be understating it. At least half of them have definitely been excluded: Michael Gove, John Whittingdale and Theresa Villiers.

Chris Grayling is almost certainly going to remain in the cabinet. But Priti Patel has not been offered a job yet, and Iain Duncan Smith is not expected to make a government comeback.
