Teresa May or Andrea Leadsom?

So without starting anything too politically fraught I wonder if people would share with me who they prefer for conservative leadership out of the two.

The race is now down to them and so we will have a female PM again!

Opinions?

Imagine a leadsom vs corbyn general election in 4 years!

The country will be even more divided than now.

TheElementsSong · 07/07/2016 23:02

I suppose you think France would still be better off if they had a king who thought he belonged there by divine right?

I knew Leave voters are all very pleased with this great victory, but at this point 2 weeks after the referendum, when our economy is on fire, we have nobody in charge, we don't know who'll be in charge, we have no idea how long or how bad any of this will be, and you yourself happily admit that we have no idea where we are going apart from "it will form as we negotiate" and "see what we get"...

Yet you are absolutely cast-iron, copper-bottomed sure that you are definitely the heroic revolutionaries on a par with the French Revolution Hmm.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 07/07/2016 23:05

The fact that people are comparing it with the French Revolution, shows they did not vote for what they thought they were voting for.

Idiotxit · 07/07/2016 23:06

I suppose you think France would still be better off if they had a king who thought he belonged there by divine right?

Just….what? Why even bother typing that?

something not right at the top

It really reassuring to know that our country has been massively fucked over for generations for really coherent, clear-minded and considered reasons.

squoosh · 07/07/2016 23:10

'Yet you are absolutely cast-iron, copper-bottomed sure that you are definitely the heroic revolutionaries on a par with the French Revolution'

Grin
RockandRollsuicide · 07/07/2016 23:10

Sorry you make such a big point of the "two weeks" in your post elements - is two weeks a long time in your book?

It will probably take years to maneuver ourselves into a great position. when you thought about effects of a leave vote, how did you think it would pan out?

you yourself happily admit that we have no idea where we are going apart from "it will form as we negotiate" and "see what we get"...

Just to let you know I am a random poster on MN, I am not the face of the leave campaign Smile.

How else will leave be defined do you think? Did you think there would be a series of demands - take them or leave them to the EU?

Yet you are absolutely cast-iron, copper-bottomed sure that you are definitely the heroic revolutionaries on a par with the French Revolution

Interesting interpretation of my post. Hmm.

RockandRollsuicide · 07/07/2016 23:10

But yes, Leave voters are very brave.

squoosh · 07/07/2016 23:11

Liberté, égalité..................um, Theresa May!

RufusTheReindeer · 07/07/2016 23:20

May

But i agree with cinnamon way up thread

Its a poisoned chalice...

TheElementsSong · 07/07/2016 23:23

Jesus H. Christ. Which I think is an appropriate profanity in honour of our both potential new PMs.

is two weeks a long time in your book?

Two weeks is a fucking eternity in finance and politics, as we are currently experiencing. Two weeks is a microscopic blink of the eye to be triumphantly proclaiming yourselves as proven heroes of the people who will be exalted in history.

How else will leave be defined do you think?

How the bloody hell would I know? Not my circus, not my monkeys.

Interesting interpretation of my post.

Feel free to clarify what you meant, if not to draw parallels between the heroic act of putting an X in the Leave box and the French Revolution. Plus ISTR there was an extended period of rather unpleasant unrest and an orgy of head-chopping after that revolution too - perhaps we could add this to the analogy?

Millyonthefloss2 · 07/07/2016 23:27

If Theresa May, a Remainer, can be leader, then why did Cameron resign? His reasoning was that a Leaver should replace him in order to take the country forward.

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/07/2016 23:30

We need a unifying leader. I'm slightly horrified that May appears to be that person but she's the only option.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 07/07/2016 23:33

Theresa May has always been fairly euro-sceptic. In fact to quote the Telegraph "she has always been euro-sceptic, but she's not a swivel-eyed loon". Their words.

I believe she supported Cameron, and kept very quiet during the campaign (as Boris should have, grrrr).

Millyonthefloss2 · 07/07/2016 23:35

I fear that May is just going to reshuffle the existing cabinet and then deliver more of what we are used to while delaying Brexit for as long as possible. So if a substantial number of the Tory members would rather remain in the EU and keep things as they are, then they will vote for May.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 07/07/2016 23:39

Let's hope so, Milly. Who knows, then we might have a country with a decent economy in two years time.

Millyonthefloss2 · 07/07/2016 23:39

Did you see the clips of May falling asleep when Cameron was speaking yesterday? I liked her for that.

powershowerforanhour · 07/07/2016 23:40

Just to let you know I am a random poster on MN, I am not the face of the leave campaign

That's right, the faces of the leave campaign have gave themselves a big huzzah for winning and promptly fucked off.

powershowerforanhour · 07/07/2016 23:41

*Gave. Not have gave.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 07/07/2016 23:44

No, milly, but surely nobody would hold that against her Grin

She's v hard working apparently - so much so that she has put people off becoming an MP. And she never took the piss with her expenses. Or her taxes.

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/07/2016 23:45

Speaking of taxes, have I missed Leadsom publishing here?

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/07/2016 23:46

*hers

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 07/07/2016 23:49

I don't she's done it yet, Alis... Theresa May has. She's pure as the driven snow, it seems. No dodgy off-shore companies.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 07/07/2016 23:49

*think she's done it...

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 07/07/2016 23:51

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 07/07/2016 23:59
